I think the horror that has stuck with me the longest are the most effective for me
Jaws (is a given so I'll let it slide)
Audition (modern horror/ love / lucid horror)
    The Ring (ghost horror)
    Alien (space horror)
    Evil Dead 2 (demonic horror/comedy)
    The Terminator ( future horror)
theres tons more but we can always talk about that dave haha. but the last 1 minute of halloween 3 always haunts me. th-cam.com/video/goKRpR4XNg8/w-d-xo.html

Love the category breakdown with these movies, I love most of em, with Audition I think I just wasn't ready. Now I'm a bit older and a bit more disturbed, I bet I'd enjoy an audition rewatch. Thanks for watching Jer!

@ i recently rewatched it again with my wife and she was like “it’s a bit slow”… then when it hits… “wtf??”… then the end “😱” while I sit grinning the corner. Great convo Dave

Awesome collection of interviews Dave! Now I have even more to add to the watchlist!
    My top 5:
The Thing (can't watch it, creeps me out)
Night of the Living Dead and zombie stuff in general (nightmare fuel)
The Nun and by extension The Conjuring movies (creepy supernatural horror)
    Event Horizon (nuff said)
    Hellraiser (1987 and 2022)
Thank you for the Halloween week videos Dave!!

Great list, Hellraiser is such a classic for me, and the 2nd one is actually a great sequel.

Great video! There are definitely some movies on the list that I’ll have to watch. I hope you do make this a regular Halloween survey every year with different guests. I do agree that Jaws, while one of my top 5 movies ever, is more of a thriller than a true horror movie. However, I think that’s only due to how the horror genre has evolved since Jaws was in theaters.
My top five horror movies (in no particular order)…. The Thing, The Howling, The Ring, 28 Days Later, Fright Night.

Great list! I forget how terrifying 28 Days Later is, every time I watch it again it feels just as effective as it did the first time around

I think why Event Horizon resonated with me so much is because I didn't know anything about it going into it and it brought a genre of horror I didn't anticipate. I went in expecting a rated R, science fiction, suspense, thriller, which it started out as, and then it took this huge pivot into demonic, horror that I was totally unprepared for, in the best of ways!

We loved Sam Neill cause he protected us from the Dinosaurs but then everything went so horribly wrong by the end of that movie and now he wants our souls!😂

Almost every weekend when I was a kid, we'd go camping. One weekend was a rainout, so what did I do, I went to the movies. Grizzly was the flick. Do you think I could enjoy camping after that? Not an effin chance. That's what makes a movie, a horor movie, to me.
    Nice channel, I just subbed!

Yessss! I forgot about Ravenous. That one scared me so much! I really really like western horrors, as the themes and era play off each other so creepily well. Event Horizon is definitely in my top 3 or 5 since I love sci-fi and horror. In definitely gonna have to rewatch that on Halloween!

Really enjoyed hearing their favorites. A24 is by far my favorite studio. I've been watching at least a horror movie a day for 2 weeks. Love it!
    1. The Shining
    2. Hereditary
    3. The Void
    4. Nightmare Elm Street: Dream Warriors- It's just fun!

THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE is still hands down the best movie ever committed to celluloid. Genre be damned

So many good lists in the video AND in the comments! Much like Becky, my list could change a bit on any given day, but here's how I'm feeling now:
    ● In the Mouth of Madness
    ● The Shining
    ● Hereditary
    ● Possession (1981)
    ● Kwaidan

    • @WestCoastDAVEngers

Let the Right One In and Long Legs are my two current favorites. Last year’s Talk to Me was fantastic. All time, I like Dead Alive, Evil Dead 2, Poltergeist and the Frighteners. My friend’s a big Hammer film junkie but those put me to sleep.

    • @WestCoastDAVEngers

I love horror when done well. The genre is filled with a ton of misses, predictability, and campy corniness. I’m also a tough scare. The first insidious and the first conjuring are total standouts for me that will always be on any list of mine. Not many movies have have wigged me out the way those 2 did 😂

    • @WestCoastDAVEngers
      @WestCoastDAVEngers  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

The firs Conjuring is an absolute great horror flick, I am in the minority that really liked the 2nd and the 3rd was simply forgettable.

@ 2 was pretty good. It was key in setting up the rest of the franchise but you’re right, the follow-ups didn’t deliver sadly

The Shining seems untouchable. Even the best movies really only get close to one or two aspects of what Kubrick did. And it stays scary, no matter how many times you watch it. Alien was terrifying too the first time I watched it, but the sci-fi aspect took a little of the edge off and keeps it fun. I'm pretty behind on the rest of these movies...horrifying myself was never my thing, but maybe it should be.

    • @WestCoastDAVEngers

I could listen to Wagner and Jones raconteur at length about anything they're interested in. Here's my off-kilter Top 5:
In the Mouth of Madness (Carpenter!)
    Leviathan (great ensemble cast!)
    The Fly (Cronenberg!)
Night of the Creeps (everything about it!)
Poltergeist (best PG horror film of all time!)
