Didn't expect I'd find an interesting Starcraft streamer after HDStarcraft and Husky. You're also covering the original Starcraft which I prefer to watch anyway. Keep up the great work.
In reference to a question you asked in this replay: I always thought that they gave the Arbiter the ability to attack so that they wouldn’t flee from enemies like, for example, a science vessel or an overlord would. In doing so, keeps the Arb on the frontlines directly above your Gateway units, providing the intended full army cloak that I assume they were going for. What a game from Smile!!!! Holy crap!!
On the other side, I’m pretty sure based on the spells available that a science vessel is supposed to be comparable to a defiler or a high templar (aoe damage spell and a protection spell, but cannot attack). My impression was that arbiters are meant to give Protoss an additional capital ship, and are a force multiplier meant to be comparable to siege tanks. No reason for them to not have an attack if that’s the case
Hah I hadn't seen your comment but just posted an almost-opposite view of it. Same mechanism, but I pitched that it could almost be a handicap. You arguably would want a spell caster like an arbiter to evade attack and stay back from the front lines - but instead with a basic attack, they'll keep heading closer to the front lines/wandering into battle, or the always popular "arbiter takes on missile turret despite suggestions otherwise"
I fell into a youtube hole with this channel - i can't get enough of the replays. I used to study Boxer way back when....love the commentary and the memories
The reason why Arbiters have an attack is so they have a way to kill units. See, in Brood War, all spellcasters have an ability to inflict damage to the enemy - Science Vessels have Irradiate, Queens have Spawn Broodling, etc.; and spellcasters who don't have an ability to inflict damage, have an attack to do that instead. The only exception is the medic, but considering how immensely powerful its auto-cast heal is, I believe that it didn't need a way to inflict damage. Edit: also, all spellcasters in Brood War have 3 abilities, no more. The arbiter already has Cloaking Field, Stasis Field, and Recall - none of which cause damage - so in lue of having a fourth ability, it has an attack.
That makes sense. Also, in PvT it makes for an annoying way to keep terran honest. Like, if terran only has vultures and tanks (which is quite possible) then arbiters can be a nuisance and slowly pick off a tank or two. Although I'm not sure if Blizzard thought that far ahead.
I think the true reason arbiters have an attack is to prevent them to escape the field of battle when attacked, since most casters do not have an attack and run away when they take damage. Having your cloaking unit run away from your other units is kinda stupid. Also bad english sorry :)
Well someone correct me if I'm wrong but the arbiter's attack actually makes it more vulnerable because it will be targeted by the AI whereas if it did not have an attack it would be a low-priority.
It's funny when I first saw images from SC Remastered, I hadn't watched a SC1 match in many many years, or played it, so I was like "Well this looks exactly 100% like the original, what a fucking great remaster wohoo!" but then went to check how the original looked like and it's like somebody had rubbed sand in my eyes. Memory does weird things, the remaster is how I remembered the original looking like from my childhood
We probably did see the same effective resolution, pixel density wise, if you were using a smallish (CRT?) monitor back then with HD or 1080p. With bigger LED monitors today, original BW would be forced to play on lower resolution, hence more obvious pixelation. SO the remaster is pretty much requred to take advantage of the size, plus the usually 1440p and 4k res of bigger monitors.
You REALLY gotta upload the first game from the WCG 2010 from flash vs jaedong. I'm sure that will receive an epic tag 35:20 that damn vulture coming from the north looked like a nuke!!
As always, science vessel is the game changer for T players: radication against defiler, EMP against Arbiter, archon, etc. It's inexpensive, it's fast, and it can kill. Built and Protect the science vessels till they sweep out all Posts units' shield in ONE shot, is the core tactical. We've seen it from Flash to Last, but still most T players only relay on their brutal artillery push without using their brains. And particularly in this match, an arbiter hunting team made up by 5 or 6 wraiths will be way more effective than randomly stalking Goliaths, then leave the rest jobs to science vessels and tanks.
that hitbox is too small for an emp to be THAT effective, thats why you dont see it that much. You really only see it on arbiters to stop stasis/recalls. but yeah, the troops defend the vessels, and the vessels defend the troops.
Another cool thing about the "turret under engineering bay" move is that units can't select, and therefore cannot focus fire it. This is very good against reaver drops. A reaver may want to focus a turret so that it's shuttle can drop it on top of a tank. When there's an engineering bay over the turret, it can't. GG REAVER!
I've got a confession to make. I've checked daily whether there's some new Falcon Paladin content and watched it ASAP. Living in Europe makes it a bit difficult to tune in for any streams tho' so I'm happy to see you upload new SC:R content frequently :) I bought StarCraft when it came out and played it for over six years and although I never got good at it, it's still got a warm spot in my heart and the Remastered client has done it some justice (didn't alienate the game, kept the "feel" as original as possible with its classic clunky mechanics like pathfinding etc. which we all hold dear). I mean if Scarabs would hit 100% of the time, it wouldn't be StarCraft 1 anymore, now would it? ;) Or if Dragoons moved in perfect formations.
32:21 that "weird EMP" happened right as the vessel came out of stasis. He clicked to cast it before it got caught in the stasis field and it carried out the order when it came out. 30:00 Smile starts building CC at top right, you're then surprised to see it later. 32:53 you notice Bisu's 4th and 5th finally after they've been on the minimap for a while. Keep scanning that minimap! Love having regular BW casts, keep it up
Arbiters having a basic attack is actually kind of an interesting handicap on them. How many times have you seen someone recall into the opponent's base, and the arbiter dies facing a missile turret/static defense while the player is micro'ing the attack forces. If the arbiter didn't have an attack, it would evade when being attacked.... but instead it shows up at the gates of arbiter heaven having to explain why it took on a missile turret, again. Similarly in an open battlefield, the arbiter is more likely to keep advancing to the front line to attack, unless the player has it hold position or follow another unit in battle (but those have their own problems)
At 34:00 Bisu maxes out at twice the supply of Smile, Bisu attacks to make sure smile can’t get resources to win. At 35:30 the game has been decided... in Smile’s favor
There's so many tricks I never see the pros exploit, the one I'm thinking of now is consecutive stasis hits (keeping certain ineffective enemy forces alive instead of killing them as a form of supply blocking)...the demoralization of such a maneuver is itself effective enough!
Don't criticize Bisu unless you are absolutely sure, you are right: His probe saturation at 9:00 is absolutely OK and intentional. It's not even really oversaturated since you see free mineral patches sometimes. And it's normal to oversaturate by some degree in your main if you want to expand quickly and then transfer the workers you have in reserve.
Very 10x you man, you do this replays. They are great. And music you choose is greater. Very favorite of mine too. Take care for you too, man and go with more replays. They are a great break for my rest time. I watch them every day for a good mood!
31:45 Lol Falcon Paladin, you accidentally mistook the base that Smile took as a protoss base (probably because of the Yellow color). You said "What is the science vessel doing here, it can't deal damage..." :P Or perhaps you thought that the Vessel was an Arbiter :P since you said that it could "stasis these tanks." Let's see a smile vs (Z) game if you have any Falcon Paladin!
Falcon, once you're finished with the BW missions on Twitch, you should play both veteran level campaigns located under the campaign folder in custom maps. Be sure to have use map settings selected. It's called Enslavers in SC original and Dark Vengeance in BW. They're super fun and a bit more difficult.
14:35 nono, the cloak is amazing vs Terran! Scans are very limited in TvP because the Toss uses deathball tactics and you have to constantly keep tabs on his army or he will flank and kill you. Vessels are a few and already good stasis targets. It is not unlikely that the Terran runs out of scans during his push, at which point the Vessels get stasised and the Terran loses ground to a-move. Honestly, you would see this more if the Arbiter didn't have that useless 10 dmg attack that causes them to act like an attacking unit and rush towers or gololies (compare to how easier it is to keep a defiler or vessel alive). Another advantage of having the cloak vs Terran, which comes up more often that you would think, is being able to safely camp stasised tanks. If you stasis the tanks, and win the fight, they are free food. But imagine what would happen if 6+ tanks get a volley off on your dragoons as the unfreeze. The same thing that happens if the Terran is perfect with his scan timing, they kill 20 food of units before they die.
hey can you use the direction keys on the keyboard to move around, it lets u get a bigger picture of the map rather than just always clicking on the mini map to move around
From midgame onwards, I felt a little more bullish than you were about Smile's chances. He controlled a lot of map, and tank groups are very hard to break.
how com the protoss dont go more into air tech when facing allot of siege tanks? just statis the goliaths and finish the tanks of with carriers or use distrubter web on sieged tanks
He couldn't attack the SCV at the start because that's a complete tight wall! That's the reason the marine did not move out to kill the probe. See liquipedia.net/starcraft/Walling_as_Terran
sometimes Bisu shows poor judgment in the late game. he lost when he decided to pull his army from the highground at 1 pos to kill terran's base when he should have saved it to protect his own expos. that was not cost efficient at all

Jae Park zerg has dark swarm which comes with a fairly solid midgame advantage until the terran tank count is large, protoss has no such hard counter to terran
The tank is untouchable. Conpletely op..only counts.2.. has 85 siege damage. Its nuts. It decimates all protoss ground troops. Ive seen protoss up three bases...terran just stack up 10tanks and.vultures and steamroll the more advanced protoss army. Bring the damage down of the siege from 85 to 70..or make it count 3. Remove the op detection from terran. Maybe make vulture counts 25 gas because of its special abilities. The tank skews the game in terran favour.

Terran is always going to outlast Protoss. It is what it is.
Terran is the best race if you have a good micro. They just have a counter for everything. Besides, protoss units are damn expensive.

Why protoss keep fighting siege with ground units?
Flash even had two 80% Match Ups once

I think Stork is better than Bisu. Stork would've been at +3 weapon, armor, and shields long before 36 minutes.
Different builds, the meta back then was 1 forge upgrades
Bisu is better than Stork IMO, I'd recommend their epic mirror match up on Heartbreak ridge.
any chance reupload the streams in youtube? i got problems with twitch
I'll give it a try.
Please do! It would be so convenient to have all the vids in one place rather than going to different sites for different content.
