    Great video!! I just installed mine using your video as reference. It helped a great deal. Also, unlike other comments below, I installed the little cone shaped bumpers on the deflector itself. You're correct, the deflector fits very tight and I don't think this thing will be bouncing up and down to a point where it'll damage the paint or the hood. Also like you, I don't want those bumpers on my hood if I had to remove this thing.

  • @cruisermedicgipe
    @cruisermedicgipe 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    The rubber cones, glue to the hood for a reason. The part that glues on, won't move. The way you have it, the tip of that cone works like an eraser on your trucks paint. Every bump or flex on that deflector is another abrasion on the paint. Won't be long and you won't have paint in those spots.

    • @TonyTheTruckGuy
      @TonyTheTruckGuy  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, I was hoping that won't happen since I have constant pressure on all my rubber pads, but we will see. Don't really plan on removing the bug shield though so I'm not super concerned I guess.

    The reason, I figure, that the instructions say to put the rubber bumpers on the hood is that, even being rubber, if they're not adhered to the hood they'll still chaff the paint. The wind n stuff will rub those little cones right through your paint in no time if they're attached to the bug deflector. So it's best to stick them to the hood. It'll take eons to rub through that thick acrylic. The bug shield will cost a lot less to replace than the paint. Looks good though. Good job, and thanks. I'm going to do mine in the morning.

    • @TonyTheTruckGuy
      @TonyTheTruckGuy  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, I guess we will find out. I did have that thought rub through my mind, but I guess I'm hoping it doesn't happen since there's constant pressure on each rubber piece.

      Also the screws holding the brackets should go back through the rubber to hold it where it was originally. But Thank you so much for the video...Was alot easier to install. Also after listening to you about adjusting I didn't put end brackets on till last, after it was installed so the end brackets are exactly where they need to be.

    It really helps if you use either a bungie or ratchet strap to hold the hood down about halfway. It's easier if you don't have another hand to help and also the hood is easier if it's not the hood is all up.

    Helpful video. I suggest temporarily mounting and centering the air deflector with the 4 center mounts to locate accurately where to install the protective tape for the outside mounting clips. I disagree concerning mounting the cones to the air deflector as compared to mounting on the hood. If the need to remove the cones from the hood, the tape glue can be cleaned off with Goo-Gone, Goof or denatured alcohol without paint damage. Mounting the cones stuck to the air deflector exposes the paint on the hood to vibration of the cone tip, most likely will damage paint on the hood. After mounting the OEM Mopar air deflector I was disappointed with the exposed stainless mounting screws visible not only on the installed air deflector but also the reflection of the screws in the chrome underneath. So it looks like 12 screw heads on the front of the truck. I'm also disappointed with the minimal height/angle of the OEM air deflector. I think it's more for aesthetics than functionality in changing airflow to deflect bugs and small debris. The 4 mounting clips for the inside center 4 mounts of the air deflector, on my 2019 new body 1500 the clips were a fuzz too short to use the provided mounting hardware. I ended up using the black plastic trim fasteners [nails] to mount the brackets. I should have checked into aftermarket air deflectors and their reviews before buying this disappointing MOPAR deflector.

      That’s odd that you can see your mounting screws, mine is all black. Sorry you’re not impressed with yours, I’ve actually been very happy with mine so far. Even been through a few automated washes with it and no problems.

      Some might argue that the rubber will rub on the hood and wear out the paint as wind hits it, so use your own discretion on that part. I'm hoping I won't have that issue since there's constant pressure on mine.

  • @kavinferrell4321
    @kavinferrell4321 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    With the rubber stopper upside down you will wear your paint out by rubbing when the wind hits the guard.

      @TonyTheTruckGuy  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      They all have pressure so they are always contacting the hood. I did this to try and negate the issue you speak of. But I also don't plan to remove the bug shield, so I'm not too concerned.

    The reason for sticking the pads on the hood and not the deflector is because the wind/vibration will cause the deflector to jump up and down and it will wear the paint off. Other than that great vid.

    Great how to! Install was a pain. 4 out of my 6 clips didn’t line up with the holes so I had to bend them quite a bit and force some of the screws in. They should have used better screw anchors. Putting the 2 end clips on was scary. I don’t like how the screws can be seen especially reflected on a chrome grille. I also put the bumpers on my deflector. Hoping it doesn’t rub through the paint over time. Not many options for matte black deflectors out there so the Mopar one is as good as it gets.

      It only goes the width of the hood, so it really doesn't offer much protection for the A-pillars, but mine seems to be in good shape yet. I got it more for hood protection. I did have to get my windshield replaced after some jerk in an F150 decided he needed to get over in front of me in a hurry (literally 20-foot gap at 60 mph and he kicked a rock up which chipped the windshield). But the deflector itself has held up well so far and has done its job of protecting the hood. I can't complain so far.

      I'll add my 2 cents. Yes, it's the same. I just installed the OEM one on my 2020 2500

      Did you overtighten them or do it in the extreme cold? I tightened mine pretty good but never had an issue.

    I GOT AVS HOOD BUG SHIELD AND THEY COME WITH SHITTY2 PC. PLASTIC SCREW INSERTS TO REPLACE THE FASTENERS YOU REMOVED UNDER THE RUBBER GASKET, BUT THEY ARE TOO LONG AND CHEAP !!! I READ HORROR STORIES ABOUT BUG SHIELD FLYING OFF AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AND RUINING HOOD PAINT JOB !!! IM TAKING MINE TO A BUDDIES BODY SHOP AND HAVING RIVETS POPPED IN INSTEAD OF PLASTIC FASTENERS ! SHOULD BE MORE SECURE !
