- The Sultan of Brunei has a net worth of about $20 billion, but he was once worth $40 billion. His excessive spending and lavish lifestyle are the stuff of legend, and he lives in the world’s largest and most extravagant palace. Istana Nurul Iman is a $1.5 billion grand palace with 1,178 rooms and 257 bathrooms. The interior is adorned with gold-woven carpet, diamond fixtures, rare Italian marble, and the finest silks from China. The Sultan of Brunei also owns a number of luxurious properties outside of Brunei. Through the Brunei Investment Agency, the Sultan owns the Dorchester Hotel in London, the Beverly Hills Hotel in Los Angeles County, Le Meurice in Paris, and Hotel Eden in Rome. There are more than 7,000 vehicles in the Sultan’s garage, and his entire car collection is believed to be worth about $6.4 billion. The Sultan has a 500-car fleet of Rolls Royces, including a $14 million gold-pleated Silver Spur II Limo that’s used for ceremonies and special occasions. His $600,000 Rolls Royce Phantom VI was custom-made to his specifications, and his $14 million Rolls Royce Phantom II Continental, nicknamed the Star of India, is one of the most expensive cars ever sold at auction. When the Sultan of Brunei plans a party, he spares no expense. He Hosted a $27 million party for his son’s 50th birthday which included a gala dinner for 3,000 people and 3 exclusive performances by Michael Jackson. I actually went to his palace 4 times because of events and met the sultan and the royal family during that event. During Eid Mubarak, the Citizens are welcome to visit during Raya and they serve delicious food. The Queen is always present during the Eid Mubarak event and shakes hands with the citizens.

On a visit to Brunei, i saw him once coming out of the gates of the istana in one of his red ferraris, top down. He waved and smiled to the stopped traffic. And yes he was driving himself.

I used to grew up in Brunei and he really had done a lot of awesome stuff for his country though. Back then almost all sports complex are free to access by anyone (and there's a few of them all over the country, big ones too), free admission to their awesome "disneyland" park and a very serene country under his leadership.

As a bruneian, today our sultan have richest heart than anything he ever possessed during his lifetime. He shares his wealth to it citizen, free educations, free healthcares, no loan taxes, he wokes up at 6 early in the morning to go there and over there, when theres an event he open up his palace and allows anyone from the different countries to meet and shakes hand with him, yes.. standing in the same room for hours and hours, hes kind, generous, sincere to it citizen and anyone who come in our country.
