    Eurostar has begun rolling out newly refurbished trains and it looks like the makeover is on the right track.
    The 21-year-old trains are 'unrecognisable' and declared that 'passengers will think it's a brand new train'.
    New features include free WiFi, seatback mirrors and glowing drink holders.
    Standard class coaches have a brand new colour scheme and a host of new features:
    Ergonomically designed reclining seats with a stitched fabric retro feel
    Extendable seat cushions
    UK and Continental power sockets at every seat
    Redesigned tables that fold in and out without the fuss of having to remove belongings first
    Repositioned luggage racks inside the coach -that way, passengers can board right away without queuing at the door, and keep luggage close by
    New above seat displays to show which seats are free
    Touch-free glass doors that open automatically - perfect for when you're carrying luggage or a glass of bubbly from the bar buffet.
    New bright white and fresh toilets. Look out for brand new features like touch-free taps and a baby changing table in every second toilet.
    Standard Premier has a fresh new colour scheme and a truly intuitive new design.
    At every seat there is a power point and USB socket, as well as a mirror, device holder and individual reading light.
    Extra storage and a slimline table give passengers space to spread out and work or stretch out and snooze.
    Business Premier has been entirely refreshed, with a new colour scheme- we’ve even rolled out the red carpet for you.
    Everything from a cupholder to a coat hook and a power point, including a USB socket, is integrated into the seat.
    There’s also a mirror, a seat pocket designed to hold a laptop and an individual reading light.

    I went to Belgium on a E374 and back to London on a refurbished E373. I actually liked the E373 more than the newer train.

    We're just about to go into 2024 and I've just completed High Speed 1 for the first time EVER, and I saw an E300 at St Pancras just before the return journey.
    Eurostar has been a goal of mine since I was literally two years old, so to be almost in my twenties and travel on it would be a dream. They're iconic

    If you go to the Man in Seat 61 web site, he has had listed a way for you to determine which type of Eurostar train is scheduled to be operated. I used it last year and was delighted to be rewarded with an un-refurbished e300. There will be plenty of time to catch the refurbished e300s, I hope and of course the e320s.

    Nice video! I have been on the E300 twice. Once back in 1998. I travelled to London for the BeeGees concert at the Wembly stadium. Back than the Eurostar still used the conventional third rail lines to Waterloo. I remember it had to stop and wait very often. It took ages to get to London. But when I returned to London on Eurstar several years ago, it used the HSL1 line into London. I could not beleive how quick we arrived at St. Pancras International! Awsome. Now I am waiting for the direct service from Cologne in Germany. Than I can board at Aachen HBF which is just across the border from here in the s.e. of the Netherlands, where I live.

    Eurostar is TGV's younger sister company cuz Eurostar / British class 373 can go through tunnel , the Eurostar E320 was the part of tgv and Eurostar E300 , E300 is longer than E320 , E320 has 2 power cars & 14 carriages

    • @texr2000
      @texr2000 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The E320/374 has now power cars as it's made up from 2, 4 car electric multiple units per half set (4 per full set). And 100% the E320 is longer than a E300/TMST.

    I can feel the emotion in this video... its beautiful and thoughtful and people around the world should feel this way about trains.
    I can see the advantages of articulated sets in derailments, but that doesn't explain the why Amtrak Cascades 501 derailed. In a tunnel or on straight track it stays together. However, on curves, bridges, and curves on bridges, it brings the whole thing down. So articulated sets can actually be dangerous.

    I was an engineer for Eurostar. I started when they were operating out of Waterloo and left in 2015 after they had been operating on HS1 for 9 years.
    Just a couple of minor points: It was an Anglo - French collaboration. Many parts were designed and built in the UK. This was contractual.
    Also while it's designation "373" falls into the UK electric multiple unit category, they never work in multiple. They only connect to each other in case of emergency. In this case they fit into a sub class of train with the HST: the never work in multiple formation but can connect to another train of the same type for rescue purposes.
    Essentially its a couple of very specialised locomotives with a fixed formation of coaches in between.

    • @matthewlongstaff3112

      I always understood that all Eurostar trains (of either class) technically consist of two electric multiple units coupled back to back.

    Why can’t some of these still to be used on the ECML (London King’s Cross-Leeds & York) as 12-Car. With the Class 800 & Class 801 Azumas working on all routes.

    I thought the 373's were originally quad-voltage, using 25kv AC, 3 Kv DC, 1.5 Kv DC and 750 v DC. As Eurostar trains formed of 373's run as far as Avignon, over the French Classic lines, this means taking power from the overhead cateenary at 1.5 Kv DC

    • @HDTransport
      @HDTransport 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes it runs on the 1.5kv system too, you can see this at 0:43

    • @typhoon-7
      @typhoon-7 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      All trains were originally tri voltage. Only a small number were fitted with 1.5kV DC equipment for South of France operations. When HS1 services were started, the shoe gear equipment was removed permanently.

    • @quuaaarrrk8056
      @quuaaarrrk8056 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@typhoon-7 So only a small part of trains ran on 1.5 Kv DC, but all had used the third rail system?

    • @typhoon-7
      @typhoon-7 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@quuaaarrrk8056 Yes. Originally all were 750dc third rail compliant but only 4 or 6 (long lost memory now) had the 1500v DC pantographs and configured common bloc for south of France running. Now of course all 750dc equipment has been removed. Has been since 2007/2008

    It's the only eurostar to be able to stop at Ashford international apart once a 374 stopped there for test

  • @PlanesTrainsFan
    @PlanesTrainsFan 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Couple of things to note
    1) You said that you for train was changed at the last minute. That is not true yours was the 11:13 am departure and that service stops at Ashford international which is not not equipped for the 374 so that service was always going to be a E300.
    2) Also you said you are unable to book your type of train, that isn't necessarily true either the Disneyland Paris, Marseille-Saint-Charles and Bourg St maurice are run by E300's only. With paris and Brussels you just need a service that stops at Ashford International and you won't get E300 on a Amsterdam service. That is a E320 only service

    • @TrainsTrainsTrains
      @TrainsTrainsTrains  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you so much for letting me know that I was unaware that all the Ashford Stopping services were E300s. I may have looked at the board wrong but I thought we were departing on an E320 and was delighted it was an E300. I mush have been looking at the wrong platform I though we were leaving from Platform 8 rather than 6.
      Thank you for letting us know you have some options to choose the E300 as I will love to travel on it again before they disappear.
