  • We checked out the Colnago V4RS of Portuguese national champion and UAE Team Emirates superstar João Almeida ahead of the Giro d’Italia. João’s 2023 bike is set up with Enve wheels, the latest Shimano Dura-Ace groupset and a Prologo saddle. Ollie takes a close-up look, weighs the bike and does an all-important freehub soundcheck. Bota Lume!

      @@durianriders It doesn't, the problem is that this is the industry trend and they use what sponsors want to sell. There is the fact that light weight carbon wheels don't like the rim brakes, specially in tubeless configuration (there is always the delamination risk if it gets too hot), so in the end is a trade of between weight and aero and aero right now, looks cooler, more expensive so better to manufacturers...

    Interestingly enough, they use 28c Conti GP 5000s TR on a 25mm internal hookless wheel, which, as per ETRTO 2023, is no longer recommended and Conti has started to recommend at least 30c on rims of that width.

    That frame color might be subtle but there's nothing subtle about all those brand logos popping out. Like, I get it, that's kind of what they want, their brand to be seen but boy does it make the bike look ugly to me. I like less contrast with my bike color and the brand logos, the smaller the logo the better. I figure, if you make good gear you don't need to be so loud about it. Right now all I see are the big brand logos on the wheels and that gigantic Colnago logo. Yikes.

    looks like any generic chinese brand carbon frame. That gap between the wheel and the downtube is massive. Not very aero.

    • @CarbonRider1
      @CarbonRider1 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The SL7 has a tighter gap, and it makes the bike a bit twitchy on descents when going through corners with the shorter wheelbase. Both the V4RS and the new SuperSix Hi Mod have a wider wheelbase, and bigger gap, and the stability is better; they did some aero vudo with the fork to make the differences extremely marginal. I prefer the stability.
