- The Greatest Glitchless Speedrun of Tomb Raider II! Getting a time under 1:30 was very insane dream of mine and I slowly got closer and closer, finally getting it. This took me between 5-6months of playing continuously. I have never had this long grind on any category. This is the best run of my life and it's my favourite category as well from any Tomb Raider!

i started playing TRII only this week after not having played it for almost 20 years; i thought i was fast, so i look up speedrunners - and then i see this happened only yesterday. lol.

@@ktc_ I actually need to credit Crit because he told me the way I did it. Loses about 4s or so compared to full yolo but makes it really likely you won't get pushed to lava which was the biggest issue with full yolo shit. And also this way is most likely gonna use 1 less med. There's a reason I only now started doing it, only way I can get 1:29 :D

This run helped me TREMENDOUSLY. I suck at the classic Tomb Raider games and couldn't make it past the first screen. I think the second game is perfect for people who mastered the first, but not for first timers.

I just went back to Tomb Raider 2 yesterday for the first time since I played it when I was 11 years old in 1997, 26 years ago wow! - This is in preparation for the Feb 2024 remasters, wanted to see if the game had dated so much that it wasn't fun nowadays, totally not the case! What a fabulous game, not just notstalgia vibes but genuinely fun to play! Definitely gonna pick up the remasters... I
So I thought hmm, I wonder if anyone speedruns this, I just got to Diving Area in 7 hours and 10 minutes give or take, it took you.... 19 minutes 30 seconds. Holy crap. The Bartollis mansion bit absolutely blew my mind.

That's insane... I thought I was doing good beating the first two levels in less than a half an hour.
I noticed you didn't skip the Chandelier room by jumping over the edge of the balcony directly to the boathouse area. Just wondering if this is optimal or if I've been doing it wrong. For some reason on the remaster I can't skip the detonator. Lara can't grab the ledge to the roof for some reason. Absolutely amazing run though. 100/10

Because the trapdoor doesnt have a collision. The version Im playing on is missing it completely and only has visual graphic

You missed a shortcut in Bartolli’s Hideout which could have saved you about ten minutes!
Is the technique at 1:20:32 allowed when doing glitchless speedruns for this game on the PS version? The reason why I ask is because I remember you doing a glitchless speedrun for this game on the PS version but you didn't use the technique at 1:20:32. It makes me wonder if it's not allowed on the PS version.
You could but it doesn't work. That specific trapdoor collision trigger is only missin on UkBox version on PC. It's fixed on EPC and PS
@@Footi I'm a PS player and I'm sure that I remember being able to do it. Infact, I think I've done it multiple times if I'm remembering correctly. I think that there are different PS versions, so maybe it varies from version to version.
If its possible its not on JP at least which is the fastest version. So I wasnt clear on my comment which was solely based on JP since its the only version people should run glitchless

At 5:45 can any one explain why Footi does this? He hops out of the boat does a loop then, hops right back in the boat. No pick up, no buttons, or switches, i don’t get it.
Not sure if I can explain it easy but the button does nothing but show a camera hint that the door is open. The trigger for the door is on the tile I land in the water. Abd the ramp has a trigger for timer AFTER door has been opened. So I enter the room via ramp (which is fastest way), then jump onto door trigger and swim out under the door. That avoids the timed run which was intended to be the way
If I understand, you press a button without having to see the door opening to save time

Says someone who has no knowledge of the rules. This run is within the rules. Glitchless doesnt mean intended.

@@DarkMoe I'm not gonna do that on every video. And all the strats I'm doing is allowed in glitchless runs. There's no intended route category because it would be unbearably boring. Also Glitchless rules are gray area in some capacity, no matter what speedrun game community. Teh hell kind of version is this? Ps1 version it takes 28 pistol shots to down human enemies, here it only takes 14. 2 shotgun blasts for dobermanns, here it takes 1. 🤔
You do know that only on JP PS1 you have different damage output on guns where it takes 7 pistols to down a guy. If you EVER had to shoot 28 times then you were playing on New Game+ mode which unlocks after completing a game normally and starting new one right away. Enemies have doubled health and you have unlimited ammo+flares

@@Footi Because it is. You use the inventory screen to manipulate the time and space continunum and then you make a glitch jump in thin air. It's basically like jumping through the side of a box instead of moving it; you can argue that the game is designed that way or you can call it a glitch. You obviously didn't jump through boxes so you define it as a glitch. The exact jump you did there I assume you did @ living quaters as well and it's been up for debate on many of these speedrun vids as it *is* most definitely a glitch. You can't manipulate the game in any way if it's glitchless.
What are you even spitting out? So first of all, did you know there's a mechanic that the later you grab the further you can reach? That is present in TR1 and 2. The jump you are referring to requires last frame grab which is hard to get consistently without any timing. That's where we use inventory buffering which advances game 2 frames each time you open and close it. We draw guns for 3 buffers ( 6 frames) and then do the jump while holstering guns and after second time you hold grab, that gives you last frame grab timing before free fall. You don't even need to do that buffering to make the jump.
Look at PS1 glitchless run and the Offshore Rig jump how I do it, it's same principle, draw guns twice to get a last frame possible but different way because there's no inventory buffering in PS1 TR2.
Living quarters jump is also just a jump with late grab which isn't a glitch. Just because you never did it or can't still do doesn't make it a glitch. It's quite funny that you didn't mention any other jumps where I use late grab. Showing you have no idea what you are talking about. Late grabs are so common but since they look "normal" to you, you don't mention them.
and when it comes to it being a "debate" has never been the case unless you are clueless and want to call that. There are people who has spent thousands of hours studying the game and finding a lot of cool ways to get around things, such as jumps and even creative ways to time things. That's nowhere near even same as jumping through a corner or a block
At least one thing you could do is stay consistent or be reasonable and actually research stuff before claiming things with ZERO knowledge. As shown by your other comment you don't even know the basic thing in the game, that New Game+ exists.@@Gonken88 How could anyone take you seriously if that's the base line?
@@Footi See, you even admit you're manipulating the game by opening and closing the menu so you can jump later thus prolonging the jump. If you don't need to do that, then don't do it and nobody will ever have a problem.
As for this being a debate, I made the exact same remark at another guys speedrun and he, like you, went semi-bananas and gave me a similar lesson as this one, and he even made another speedrun referencing me as "some idiot" who didn't think his last speedrun was glitchless 😅. Yet still there were people agreeing with me in the comments - so yeah, people disagree about this. How many hours are spent finding these glitches is hardly the point 🤷.
Well they aren't wrong calling you an idiot. You can't even stay consistent with your own reasoning and haven't put any thought into it. Now you are saying ANY closing or opening inventory is a glitch if YOU say so, think how stupid that logic is. Really good but this is not glitchless at all (Venice, "long" jump in Bartoli's hideout, jump at the theatre and so on)
Those aren't glitches - they're just unintended shortcuts that the developers/designers probably never knew were possible. Something like jumping inside a wall and appearing in a different location is a glitch.

A jump which isnt supposed to be done isnt a glitch, its an exploit. And Im using so many of those before the level already that show inconsistency with your logic
all im saying to anyone use exploit oe Glitch its not a genuine run so it shouldnt be should as Glitchless its the same thing really i love to see pseed runs thats done fast movement etc but its clear on that level that your not meant to do that so.........
@@kayotics7003 You seem to fail to understand that Glitchless as a category is NOT literal dev intended in any game because noone knows what that is 100% and it would be way too boring. Also using an exploit isn't instantly a glitch. You failed to point any other jumps to skip areas as bannable offenses until Offshore RIg jump. And I assume only reason you did point that specifically is that you didn't know it's possible. It is widely varying in communities. This is by definition a glitchless run. If you knew anything about the game engine and such
