In this video, I show how to fertilize a watermelon plot after the growing season. This is done to replenish the nutrients that the plant took out the previous season. If the nutrients are not replaced, it will be hard to grow another large plant there. The fertilizers used are all organic, which will benefit the health of the plant and soil. They will not burn the plants, which could kill them and the soil microbes. Having healthy soil will encourage a healthy plant. The fertilizers used are as follows: rabbit manure, alfalfa pellets, tomato tone, tomato & veg, leaf mold, and mushroom compost. The alfalfa pellets have a natural growth hormone that is going to help the plant grow. This is going to help me grow some nice-sized watermelons.

You’re essentially building a compost pile on the surface. Manure, alfalfa, wood chips and leaf mold should develop into a nice, fungal-infused compost. Good luck on getting that huge watermelon this year!

This is my first year using rabbit manure. I have high hopes for this spring and summer. All I have left to do is stealing folks bags of leaves for mulch.

Will that 100lbs watermelon be edible? I recently came across some seeds that said it has the potential to get up to 220lbs but the label said it's not suitable for consumption cos it's very fibrous.

Most people use them for competitions. I don't know. I have not grown one that size yet. I know if it goes past harvest time, I would not try eating it.
