    When you test them it would be great to understand the improvements vs One SL pairs as rear surrounds, and also whether people who currently have One SLs as rears can use them in an expanded setup with these or if they would need to be moved elsewhere in the home (ie doesn't work as a soundbar + two SLs placed somewhere else in room + two Era 300s as rears setup to get even more room-filling sound)

    • @robmathieson

      I use two sonos 3 speakers for rears and they are superb.

      It requires a sound bar in a surround setup. The website literally has all that info

    • @DG-2323
      @DG-2323 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bolttracks that's not the question, the question is whether they need to replace existing One SLs in a home theater setup w/ sound bar or whether you could essentially have soundbar + 4 speakers by just adding the 300s to an existing set up. Seems like a good chunk of people have the Ones already as surrounds so need to understand the pros/cons for upgrading them to the new era speakers.

      @D G you cannot keep the 2 sl ones in addition to era 100/300. Like you had guessed they have to be moved to a different room. I just placed the order for era 300s as my rears ... I'm sure I'll hear the difference. Is it worth the price?...probably not to most but to the OCD it's a must

    Those are some unsatisfying answers from Sonos. Also I wish you had asked about using a Beam as a center + 2 stereo sonos speakers, this gets requested a lot as well.
    Paying 900$ for rears when you only have a single Arc under the TV makes no sense. I would rather have a Beam as a center + 2x era 300s in front and 2x era 100s in the back

    I believe the real reason for not having the Era 300 fronts independent of the sound bar is not to canibalise their sales of said sound bars. That said knowing this has affected my decision to buy a pair of 300s.

      Not having a line in will always kill HomePod sales. I love the sound of my OG HomePods but it is not worth the price. Leave to Apple to half bake a product then slowly add features in order to sell something every year.

    • @rachyl7356
      @rachyl7356 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sonos isn’t exactly perfect on listening to customers…just look back at the debacle of the firmware updates in 2022 when the changed the sound signature and it broke some of the features with the sub. Granted, they eventually fixed it due to public outcry but it still was a mess. They also have other issues that have been reported on the Sonos forums for ages that still aren’t fixed. Don’t get my wrong, it’s great they seem to be listening now. I truly hope that the fact they sorted out the firmware giving people what they asked for as well as adding these features to the new Era series is evidence of them listening both now…and into the future.

      @@matr1x327 To be honest, I have not yet tested on a proper Dolby setup. I recall Nilay has from the Vergecast and he was still pretty meh about it and was especially disappointed by the loss of bass. But that’s my point, if having multiple speakers / special equipment is required to get a good spatial audio experience then spatial audio is DOA. • @rob-123
      @rob-123 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's terrible as the music industry is very slow and why would I want to create music for this format where Stereo is just such a big win for audio and the headphones markets where 99.9% is at?
      You will just end up getting 2 speakers and at that cost your failing into the Kef territory which is way better! These speakers would also cause problems for a stereo setup as they would be projecting the sound completely wrong, you might say well Sonos might correct this with a 2 speaker setup but the company has a long history of using bad technology and not using it correctly. Last time I had Sonos it was causing a loop back in my network which is a very amateur mistake at the time!

    I respect Giles’ opinion and his work speaks for itself - but he’s making excuses when he says HomePod being circular is wrong. The whole point is bouncing audio off walls and using computational audio to adjust in realtime. SONOS doesn’t have Apple’s chip tech to do that so they’ll badmouth it while trumping their solution. Shade at Apple aside I like these.

    Please work on a pair of Sonos rear surrounds with upward firing speakers. I don’t want or need a “room filling” single speaker. I have thousands and thousands of dollars invested in my home theater setup (from Sonos). Give me dedicated, designed and thought of rears with upward firing speakers. I don’t want a stand alone speaker that “can” work as a rear surround. I want rear surrounds that aid in the atmos experience. Charge me $1000 a pair, that’s fine, but design them specifically as rears to the arc.

I'm going to assume for movies not much and for music better, but not by much. Two selling points of the ERA 100's are that they are now technically stereo and have better bass but in a Home Theatre set up, that means less since we would have two speakers for stereo separation and the Sub would be taking care of the bass. On their own, I think they are a great improvement.

They said the 300s would be for 7.1.4 and the 100s are still 5.1.2, but I have to wonder because of the two tweeters, would now the soundstage feel a little wider in the back or on the sides in the middle because of this? I went ahead and dropped the money on the 300s just because I'm already invested this far, but, would enjoy knowing either way.

    To be honest. I’m really disappointed that when the HomePod hot released everyone online and critics made it out to be overpriced and useless. And yet, it has someone of the best sound for that price range and it was (at the time) a very interesting product. They even updated the software for other streaming platforms to play off of it months later and no one hardly did an updated review.
    3 years + later and after a cancellation they remove some mic’s /speakers to make it cheaper and trying it again and people are still the same way. Sonos comes out with their own super similar version and everyone’s sitting around “I can’t wait for this to play in my home/house” and its basically the same price as the original HomePod AND they are doing spatial audio as well..
    I’m confused…

    Not a fan of the Era 300 design, and seems like it costs a lot to add rear speakers (though upfiring) for my Beam soundabr. I was hoping they would do upfiring in the Era 100 or better yet design simple Atmos rears. I don't need the huge (by comparison) speaker of the 300.

      Nothing since the marketing puts them clearly in between the Ones (or the 100) and the Fives. It's more advanced (being a newer speaker, d'uh), but for people with Fives sound-wise it likely won't add much if anything. They're trying to push what they can do with something smaller and cheaper than a Five. If you've no fomo you might see an Era 500 come up in a year or two, a more direct comparison.

    Personally I'm more interested in the Home cinema aspects of this setup rather than worrying about spatial audio from a streaming service.

    How are you supposed to connect multi sources to this set up without constantly switching out HDMI connections
    For example, attached to my Denon AV Receiver I have a Sky Q box, an Xbox, 4K Blu Ray player, Chromecast, Amazon Firestick, a media player, a Sonos Connect. Are you supposed to rely on the Earc connection on the back of your TV?
    I've also got very decent Bowers and Wilkins home cinema speakers on stands, a couple of their subwoofers and recently added a couple of up firing Atmos Speakers. It all sounds superb.
    This stuff might be ok in smaller room or a bedroom setup.
    For what they are looking to charge the whole bundle you could have a far more practical decent AV Receiver and continue using you quality legacy speakers.
    Suppose it is fine if you are limited for space.
    It seems very short sighted not to include an up firing speaker in ERA100 if you wanted to use those as rear surround / rear atmos speakers but I suppose they want you to fork out for the ERA 300s.
    Why have twin speakers in the ERA 100s if you were going to use them in a stereo pair. Is one half of the speaker going to be disabled or will you just have sound bouncing around all over the place?

      The benefit i saw when choosing Sonos over equally priced traditional AV was how to tie my AV into an easy to access, whole home audio solution.
      For example, I have Sonos in other rooms as well. I can easily, with the app, have the TV audio play in all rooms, which is really cool when hosting for sports events

    Lots of screw ups with this release.
    No Sonosnet capability means you’re going to be pairing these as rear surrounds with part of the group outside of the wireless mesh. How many drop out issues will this cause? How will it effect customers with lots of Sonos products within their home?
    The Sonos 100 not having an upfiring driver for Atmos. Sonos dropped the ball here big time when it comes to giving us an affordable option to add Atmos compatible rears to an ARC or Beam gen 2.
    The price of the 300 is a joke. If you want to add a pair ot Atmos rear surrounds to your ARC or Beam Gen 2 you’re looking at over 1300 after taxes in Canada. This is downright disgusting. You mays well just purchase a traditional wired home theatre system. For the price of an ARC, 2 Subs, and 2 300s you’d end up with something sounding twice as good in your home.
    Why mess with a good thing? The play 1 speaker is a well selling legend due to its quality to affordability ratio. The 100 is a glorified play 3. Its nothing more than a price gouge if your looking to purchase a sonos entry level product. This company may just be pricing itself right out of business.
    Sonos’s continued stubbornness when it comes to adding a physical front left front right option to it’s home theatre configuration is ridiculous. It’s soundbar customers have been asking for this option going all the way back to the playbar.
