I played a lot of Pokemon and minecraft around 7/8 years ago when I started learning English and in my opinion it really helped with my vocabulary. I learned words like substitute and gravel. Gaming can really help with improving your English skills, but your warning is not without reason. Gaming is quite addictive, unfortunately I am speaking out from experience.
I totally agree! When I started playing Minecraft, I saw, that if I'm going to do something I like, I will learn English way better, than at school. Then I started watching youtube, where I learnt English, and then practised while playing online games. Now I win in (almost :D ) every English competition in our school. I think social apps (for example instagram) is something like gaming when it comes to learning English, or idk how my classmates (girls) are learning English that well. As someone who grew up playing World of Warcraft I couldn't agree more with these statements. I was 6 years old when I started playing WoW and I used to always sit on my mum's lap communicating with their guildies from all over Europe, mostly the UK. It has benefited me a lot with my language learning journey, especially being so young when I was first exposed to the language. It has helped a lot with my fluency as well as my pronunciation.
Amazing! One of the sources covered WoW and found that it was exceptionally beneficial for language learning. Great to hear that you've learnt English from gaming. I think you would be an excellent student in my classes!
I agree with you, because of Minecraft I learn English in my teenage, my level still in A2, but the games helped me much to write or read something in English, different than the books or movies, on movies the speaking is much faster, and book I don't have reference, in my opinion games is one the best ways to get better your English.
Play games that are massive multiplayer online MMOGs Plays games because its fun for you, not because to learn English or make friends (those are just additional benefits)
Trying to do this to learn German-set phone and games language to help me used to the words, even if I can't pronounce it yet vielen Dank/thanks a lot :)
What an amazing video 👏🏻 I was looking for content like that because I want to teach English for my Brazilian mates and I am using game as a tool to teach. Very helpful content. And yes, I’m a gamer. 😀😀😀
and yet teachers don't see why we learn it the best way by playing our fav video games once they realize this gigantic elephant in the room they'll hopefully begin teaching us stuff to us that way. As i said i hope so but not so sure wheter they change their mindsets.

Did you learn English while gaming?

I did. I'm a Filipino, when I was a kid I always play video games and most of the vocabularies that I know came from video games.
When I was a kid, I learn English through video games. But there are also slangs and dirty words 😂😂😂
That's a minor downside of learning English through video games 😂

I recommended resident evil games to my students where you have to solve puzzles by reading and listening to conversations
Those are the best for practising receptive skills!
Idk about online games but RPGs are action oriented and are practically interactive illustrated story books.
Yes, they are. Good remark!

Leontes, Marissa Balidoy here. What you're saying here is right. My Korean student said he also learns English from playing Roblox. :)
Very nice! I've also had many students who've learnt English from Roblox or Minecraft. 😁

I hope so too. Fortunately, modern pedagogy gives room for this and new teachers are usually also open to these approaches.
Nice sir, thanks I love gaming.
Do I game?
*Stares at game library of 1300 games of which half have not even been touched yet*
