Fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe know that Steve Rogers is one of a kind. . .or is he? This hero experienced time travel at numerous points during “Avengers: Endgame,” and we saw him co-existing less than peacefully with his past self at the Battle of New York. So were there multiple versions of Captain America existing simultaneously on the MCU timeline? Some fans seem to think so, and even the writers confirmed that’s what they were going for. Even if he stayed in the background while his crime fighting friends saved the day again and again, we’ve still seen evidence of his existence thanks to Peggy Carter. Was Steve Rogers the mysterious husband we learned about in “The Winter Soldier?” We’ll go over the evidence supporting this theory and how this hero could have lived knowing what was going to happen with the Mad Titan Thanos in the future. Old Cap may have gone on quite the journey without ever leaving his primary timeline or informing any of his friends.

It makes sense, Peggy, being agent, was good a keeping secrets and she could have easily created a new identity for Steve. I agree that it must have been hard to let history happen without interference but Cap understands strategy and sacrifice to achieve the final outcome.

Watched Black Widow last night and a line from the Red Guardian struck me. When he was arm wrestling he said in 1986 or something along those lines he fought a great battle with Captain America, the guy he was sitting with noted that Captain America was still on ice at that time. Leading me to believe he had fought with the Captain after he had returned to the past and was living his life with Peggy.

now thanks to Loki, I think I believe this theory cause the TVA said what they did was supposed to happen so that would include steve going back to Peggy. So I do believe Steve was Peggy's husband the whole time and that him going back to her was always supposed to happen to not make a branched timeline.

They have used easter eggs to set up future plot lines before, and the details pointed out here such as the photos of Peggys' kids sans her husband in her hospital room, as well as Steve's photo on her desk look like prime examples to me.

You know if read the comics you'll realize there was a big flaw in that old man cap scene. That fact that the supersoldier serum cap took prevents aging. It forever keeps him in prime physicality.
No human is perfect and his love for Peggy. Was that kind of forever love, even when he was small weak. You could see they were soulmates, it just took time for them realize the truth. This was one time Cap choose his happiness and hers over the fate of the world. Because they were two that became one. Most people don't understand that kind of forever love.

Due to the first clip, you should already know that Peggy’s “mysterious husband” was Steve. He is depicted in said movie dancing with her. He went back to her time. He didn’t make a new time period, the TVA would have brought him in for that.

Very little of it was CGI, the bulk of it was actual makeup effects and considering it made Chris' own mother cry when she saw him in the full make up, because it made him look like a spitting image of his late grandfather, I'd say the makeup wizards at Marvel Studios did a damn good job of giving us a pretty accurate idea of what Chris is going to look like when he gets old.

I believe its entirely possible now that there are 2 Caps. I also think its possible that Steve knew going back in time to return the stones he would know where his friends were on the day he went back so he could be there as his old self after living his life with Peggy to go and see them again. I make this comment now after all the other shows have aired and we know more about time loops and variants and different things.
The real reason way Steve Rogers didn't alter the timeline by changing the events may be because what he quoted in "Avengers Age of Ultron" while quarreling with Tony Stark about consequences he quoted: "Every time someone tries to win a war before it starts, innocent people die. Every time."

Peggy saying "You came back" and "Youre so young" can now be seen as her referencing that he DID come back and they got married.
But for me it goes down to the fact that cap did not arrive in the teleporter they were expecting him, he was already in their universe, waiting by the lake means that he did not alter the timeline but chose not to return by Pym particle. With Cap in the MCU doing rogue superhero stuff that he knew the avengers never handled, would also explain why the Red Guardian swears he fought Cap at some point in the 90s, which they made a big deal out of Cap being in the ice at the time.
i now it might be wrong but hear me out,
so in captain america : the winter soldier
1) we see that when steve rogers enters peggy's hospital room, she is suffering with Alzheimer's disease which is basically a disease which causes u to forget recent and past memories
2) so this is just an assumption that when peggy might have seen rogers for the first time after endgame, her first reaction would've been, (steve ur alive, you've come back) as we see this reaction in the movie after rogers fetches a glass of water for her
3) so what i am proposing is that, steve who travelled back in time, lived his life with peggy, turned old, and then suddenly disappeared for some unknown reason (for ex: current steve rogers being found in the ice, so two steve's together is a nono); which made peggy believe that he might've died and left her for good
4) then again in current timeline, peggy might have seen rogers all young and fit just as she might have in endgame, thinking that rogers have time travelled again for his love

then again i would say alzheimer's disease was just a cover-up to any threats peggy could face or some unknown reason

Another thing is when he decided to stay back in his original time with Peggy he knew that the others, including himself, the one we watched fight Thanos and save the world from every thing else, would win and save the world. Because he was there when it happened. He had no need to interfere. Yes there was a lot of death but the good guys still prevailed.
But kinda doesn't make sense at the same time because he visited Peggy when she was on her death bed. They didn't act like they spent a life together. You'd think that if he did drop the stones in their original place and stayed his older self would've been there or at least mentioned to young Cap by Peggy.

Here's how Steve Rogers could have his cake and eat it too:
1. After taking the last Infinity Stone back to 1949, 2011-Steve time travels back to the 1945 spot where his plane crashed.
2. After watching the plane crash, 2011-Steve rescues unconcious 1945-Steve before he freezes into hibernation.
3. 2011-Steve explains to 1945-Steve how he got there from the future, and why 1945-Steve must keep his mission secret.
4. 2011-Steve climbs into the plane's cockpit and allows himself to be frozen into hibernation.
5. 1945-Steve travels incognito back to America to reunite with Peggy in 1947, who agrees to keep his return secret.
6. 1945-Steve assumes a new identity as Peggy's civilian husband, letting the world think he died in the place crash.
7. After being revived from hibernation, 2011-Steve avoids contacting Peggy until he hears of her imminent death.
8. 2011-Steve visits elderly Peggy at her death bed. She knows he hasn't yet travelled to the past, and keeps her secret.
9. 2011-Steve fights with the Avengers to defeat Thanos and returns the Infinity Stones back to their locations in the past.
10. Elderly 1945-Steve finds the remaining Avengers after the Endgame climax, and gives them Captain America's shield.

In the Black Widow movie Red Guardian kept asking Natasha if Captain America ever mentioned him? This would have been the Captain America that had gone back in time. Remember the 3 founding members of S.H.I.E.L.D. were people he knew. So it would have been relatively easy to have kept Captain America off the books.
With the first What If episode... I think when he came back to the present, he came to the present of the timeline that Peggy Carter became the "super soldier." They grew old together and then he came back.
So that would mean her kids are most likely his kids with super soldier genes... Just saying.

At the end of endgame before going back in time before he went back to return the stones, Steve looked behind over his shoulder followed with an expression of reassurance. This is because he spotted his older self knowing at that point in time everything was going to work out and him returning the long way after living his life with Peggy was all part of that timeline and reassured his plan.
If stan Lee was alive he would have got his cameo as old cap that would have explained his other cameo and after all he is the actual first avenger

Yes. I don’t know why people feel the need to make it more complicated than it is. He didn’t have to “come from” another timeline. There is only the one timeline. And for more than 70 years, it had two Steve Rogerses in it - one who was frozen in ice for most of that time, then to be thawed out, before spending a few years being Captain America again in the 21st century, and finally to disappear completely, and another who spent those 70 years keeping a very low profile in order to fuck up the time continuum as little as possible, avoiding people who might recognise him, and presumably living under an assumed name as Peggy’s husband.
@Akshay 18 It has nothing to do with Back to the Future. That was a conversation about changing history. You alter history and you create a branch reality. But there is no history being changed here. You’re just over-complicating something that is simple, elegant and which works logically and narratively.
Anyway, the screenwriters have confirmed that that was their intention - though why we needed them to do so when it was completely obvious is beyond me.
