I would argue that Mark Hamill has definitely earned the love and respect of the fans. He has been there from the very start, and continues to be a voice against the bad direction LucasFilms has taken since Kathleen Kennedy took over as president of the company and turned what was a science fiction fantasy based idea into a platform for social justice.
I remember disliking Ahsoka when she first appeared in the Clone Wars. Now a days? I can’t imagine the show without her. If Ahsoka ever gets a live action appearance, that will be amazing
2008: Ahsoka is introduced. There is some negativity because the perception is that she's a token teenage character to appeal to the 10-14 audience. 2020: Ahsoka is one of the most beloved characters in the canon by pretty much everyone who's watched The Clone Wars because she was written well and we were able to watch her fail and grow. Ok now do Rey.
The problem is they're annoying in different ways. Ahsoka kept fucking up and acting snarky while in the wrong, which _is_ annoying but makes for the perfect launchpad for character growth. It's literally the start of the hero's journey. Rey is put on a pedestal as hyper-competent and infallible despite never having earned it. Where would you even go from there? I guess you can tear her down and make her totally inconsistent with what she's been up to this point? Make the audience feel bad for her? That's all I can really think of, but I really doubt that would work.
Spoilers on this comment: I remember hating Ahsoka so much back when the Clone Wars film came out.. then years later crying my eyes out when she left the order and again when she met Vader...
Rex and Ashoka paying their respects at the graves of the clones who were their friends was sad especially when it stops at Jesse’s helmet. I grew up with this show and seeing Rex and Jesse be torn apart as brothers thanks to order 66 was sad.
When I first saw Ahsoka come out I immediately liked her. I always liked her little attitude but as she grew older, she became a badass and I loved the character so much. When my family had gotten a new dog we named her Ahsoka, that’s how much my family loves the character.
I've just started watching the Clone Wars, and right from the get go, i personally loved the nicknames, i chuckled at Skyguy and Artooie, because we've done that when we where around that age
@@bangobuck8722 Back when the movie and first couple seasons came out, Ahsoka got a lot of negative backlash because most people found her annoying. It wasn't until Season 3 (where she got true development) that she became a fan-favorite character.
It always saddens me to see actors get hate for the characters they play. Its like the poor girl who played Rose in The Last Jedi. The character was terrible but that's not the actors fault and she does not deserve any hate in any way for it. She did the job she was told to do.
@Pascal483 no that's not true there should be some back lash what if one guy said nothing through out the entire movie and just stared blankly at things and he's the main character can you not tell him he didn't do well
There were three characters I was drawn to in The Clone Wars, Asajj Ventress, Captain Rex, and the Best character in all of Star Wars, Ahsoka Tano. There was never a doubt about her character. It was that fact that we knew of all the other characters and their outcomes, but those 3 gave us full story arcs where we don't know what was going to happen to them. And being apart of Ahsoka's story has endeared her to my heart. I don't see an animated character, I see a living person. Strange how Great Character development can do that.
Hell for me and everyone else that were in middle school when Clone Wars started, we literally grew up alongside Ahsoka. And now here we are all fully grown with her watching her go on this journey
Ashley Eckstein is perfect for Ahsoka Tano. NO ONE can replace her voice. It’s heartwarming to see how voicing Ahsoka Tano has helped her with her career and the creation of Her Universe. Thank you so much for voicing Ahsoka Tano, Ashley Eckstein 😊🙏 May the Force be with you forever
Jake Lloyd, Hayden Christensen, Ahmed Best, Ashley Eckstein: all the fan favorites get hated on by a vocal minority at first, it's like an unfortunate rite of passage for amazing Star Wars actors
Unfortunately, Jake Lloyd got the worse of it and he's currently sitting around in a mental asylum while diagnosed with schizophrenia over decades of psychological abuse from heartless dumb asses. Which makes me sad about him :(
Seeing Ahsoka is like seeing an old friend. If you think about it, an entire generation of Star Wars fans grew up with her. You felt like you were learning the ways of the Force with her ya know. It also helps that Ashley Eckstein is just a fantastic person. Whenever she smiles, you smile too.
Attacking one character to prop another up is always a shitty thing to do. Why not just say you like the character of Ashoka other than to throw shit at people man.
I never had any hate for Ahsoka, so I must be one of the rare ones. Instead I was like "what? Anakin has a PADAWAN?!" and I just wanted to see where this went. And now look a decade later, Ahsoka has become one of the biggest and most loved characters in the Star Wars universe. Ashley is a fucking LEGEND, and I absolutely LOVE how she's brought the ladies scene in Star Wars bigtime cred.
I was thinking the same thing when Clone Wars first came out. I thought Ahsoka's attitude and sarcastic remarks so funny between her and "SkyGuy". I have really enjoyed this character since day one. It is really awesome what Ashley is doing for the female fandom and making females feel more included in the science fiction world.
I like that Ashley is so humble in real life. She really "fit" to Ahsoka in so many ways. To be honest I started watching SW CW for Maul and Ahsoka. At that time 5TH seasons was already releases. Ashley may the Force be with You...always.
Sucks that didn’t happen with Jar Jar. If the Darth Jar Jar theory is true and George Lucas were allowed to let that concept materialize over time (like Filoni built Ahsoka over time,) people would’ve come to appreciate the character creativity and mythical allegory behind the character more. Then they probably would’ve learned to appreciate the differences between them and Lucas instead of stubbornly scorning him for these beautiful qualities.
@@Lovelessvalentine66 don’t jinx it. They won’t do that. They need anything available to keep the broken franchise alive or dead so people will pay more money
Oh she definitely earned it. That journey of her as an actor and the journey of Ahsoka... I am so grateful the final arc of the clone wars animation was dedicated to her and Rex. Couldn't have wished for more. It really felt as an homage to what the Clone wars meant to me, it was heartwrenching but so statisfying.
Ahsoka is perhaps my most favourite character in all Star Wars. As a kid I loved seeing her and anakin together and I was like 12 ish when ahsoka left the order, I cried like a 6 year old for hours, but at 14 when rebels came around and ahsoka came back I was so happy I practically screamed! I later rewatch clone wars and realise the bond that ahsoka and anakin has, being brother and sister practically. and it had a much bigger impact on me as a person seeing their relationship and understanding it better than before. she became one of my many childhood heroes, and I believe she’ll be the hero of many children to come after.
@Splatoonist Productions I completely agree with you. The relationship between Ahsoka and Anakin was very enjoyable. She really brought out the best in Anakin (as she was intended to do) and made Anakin a way more likeable character than he was in the movies. Anyone who can make a man out of that whiney brat, Anakin, deserves respect. lol They mention that she was not well liked at first, but that's because she was supposed to be like Anakin, brash and impulsive. As Anakin's Padawan, she was meant to be a mirror for him and show him just how immature he was and force him to set a better example. Having a student really helped him grow up and watching the two of them grow together and really understand and relate to one another was a truly great thing for the Star Wars universe. I feel like Ahsoka understood Anakin better than anyone else. Even more than Obi Wan or Padme did. You mention how sad it was when she left and it truly was. I really feel like her leaving played a big factor in Anakin turning to the dark side. Without her friendship and understanding, without his closest confidant, Anakin had no one to center him keep him from going down a dark path.
David von Doom if ahsoka hadn’t left, anakin might have felt less distrust towards the council, maybe even confided with ahsoka in episode 3 had she have been available. What surprises me more is that ahsoka KNEW about anakin and padme and kept it to herself out of respect. I believe had anakin gotten the transmission from ahsoka and rex on mandalore, it may have had anakin not turn to the dark side as well. There’s so many possibilities, and I honestly believed that had ahsoka not left, seeing as she’s closer to anakin than arguably anyone, maybe he would’ve felt more open about things, maybe even telling ahsoka about him and padme and his worries. It’s almost like ahsoka was not only a link to the light side, but also an anchor of sorts, one of the few things keeping him in the light and when she left it was just gone. Maybe had anakin had ahsoka to worry about as well as padme, and had she been there in important moments throughout ROTS, it’s possible the empire, the purge and other tragedies would’ve been prevented. They’ve done such a good job at hammering down how much she means to anakin, and without her, the 3rd movie is what would happen when she isn’t there. (Spoilers for clone wars) if ahsoka hadn’t left the order, she wouldn’t have had those words to say about the jedi and politics and her new distaste towards it when people need the jedi more than the chancellor does. I believe that moment also influenced anakin in episode 3, as anakin would see that politics are a major factor in the corruption of the jedi order. I know I’m rambling on and I feel I’ve made the points I wanted to make. But I cannot emphasis how much she means to anakin, to Star Wars, and to us. And what could’ve been had she not have left.
my initial dislike of Ahsoka had nothing to do with her being female she was just annoying but Dave Filoni did an amazing job with this character and now shes my favorite right beside Kreia
I've never heard in my life someone complain about a male character just being "annoying." Literally any female real or imagined catches that complaint. It's not a coincidence. "Annoying" just means "I can't face or admit my real reason for disliking this person so I'll just say that instead." That's all it means.
@@elbruces no you're wrong lmao ahsoka was annoying and people complain about male characters all the time thats not "all it means" but nice try lmao jar jar binks is male and the actor almost committed suicide due to hate being called ANNOYING dipshit
I can’t believe how much she’s done for the franchise. Ahsoka is truly one of the most important characters of Star Wars, in-universe and in our world. Even as a male, I relate a lot to the character, and I’m so happy Ashley allowed so many women to feel better nerding about Star Wars just like they should be allowed to. Thanks Ashley, you are a true Jedi of our galaxy.
@@turtleislandlac1490 You're right its a series that lasted much longer than a trilogy imagine if Kennedy was in charge it would have died after the first season
im so glad a character like Ahsoka and a humble, giving and strong human being like Ashley unite the fandome like this. Literally not an inch of hate can be around her character and her persona. Seeing her and how the fans react to her makes me love star wars again and again, not all hope is lost!
I’m so glad we have people like her to just help our fandoms evolve in a healthy way, Star Wars would definitely not be the same without Ashley and others pushing it to be more inclusive
Agreed. All people can take part in something fun and righteous regardless of physical differences. It’s better to respect creative differences than disrespect physical ones; the latter’s too petty while the former’s more harmonious.
I’m sorry, but hasn’t Star Wars always been inclusive?? Directors, and SJW’s act like there have never been any amazing female characters in Star Wars. What about lea???!! The amount of social justice that is being thrust into Star Wars is the reason that I am slowly starting to drift away from this franchise. And it sucks. #feminismAINT= #DownWithKathleinKenedy
See I’m one of those old EU “Hardcore fans” I never hated Ashoka, I just found her kind of annoying at times, but that’s not because she was female, just because I don’t like people who are sassy all the time. I will say she did grow on me though I do love her character
That's the beauty of Ahsoka - she starts off as this kinda bratty teenager, and over time after struggling and persevering, growing as a person (i.e. proper character development) she becomes a true and respectable jedi and person. I wish we had more of these characters
@@idontneedthis66 Thing is, she was always intended to be a bit annoying. Just like Anakin was. Yoda wanted Anakin to have a student as troublesome as he was. They were meant to grow together and they sure as hell did. CW Anakin is leagues better than movies Anakin and that's partly to do with Ashoka. Anyone who didn't understand that just wasn't paying attention.
What I did know that she was a great actress. What I didn't know was that she was an entrepreneur jumpstarting companies and selling ideas, holy shit, thats so sick.
I was growing up when Clone Wars was airing so I had no idea that she was at all hated by anyone. And like, I loved her, I still do. Admittedly I was balling, ugly snot faced tears when she left the Jedi Order. I was 10, I predentded to be sick so I could I stay home to see what would happen to her. I thank Clone Wars, Ahsoka and mainly Ashley for letting my definition of "HERO" or "ROLE MODEL" be "ADULT MALE", so hearing years later that any hate was a thing made me so angry. Ahsoka is hands down tied with Obi Wan as my favorite STAR WARS character.
Ashley brings so much to the character that I nearly cried during Season 7 when she met Anakin. We couldn't have asked for a better character nor voice actor.
Fun Fact: When they styled Ahsoka for Rebels, they changed her facial features slightly to more closely resemble Ashley. Have a look at the thumbnail and compare the noses, chins and foreheads.
Ahsoka is by far my favorite Star Wars character. She made the Clone Wars so much more than it waht it would have been without her. Through her we see Anakin in a much different light that the shortcomings of the prequels was able to give us. Getting to know Anakin and Maul better along with the addition of Ahsoka makes the Clone Wars series my favorite Star Wars anything.
What I think she should do is go to a convention but make sure that her co-stars and other people that made the shows are also attending. She dresses up as Ahsoka (make-up and all) and speak to people using her Ahsoka voice just to gauge their reaction, especially when she drops her voice and speaks normally if/when they say something like that her Ahsoka voice is really good.
I honestly wasn't a fan of Ahsoka in the beginning. And then along the way I began to accept her and even enjoy her presence on the show. By season 5 I was in love with her and to see her leave the Order crushed me. And then to see her in Rebels at the end of season 1, I was over the moon! Yes, Dave Filoni can be creditted for being able to turn Ahsoka from the character very few liked at the beginning to a fan favorite in the entire series. I'd argue that Ashley Ekstein'a performance and dedication to the character is just as bug an influence on fan's reception of Ahsoka.
As girls dreamed of being a Disney Princess, I always dreamed of being Ahsoka. She was always my favorite. I grew up with Ahsoka. I remember wanting to be her for Halloween but I hated all the costumes because none never really looked like her. Ahsoka was my Ariel, Jasmine, Snow White, all of them. I can’t thank Ashley enough for helping make one of my favorite characters of all time❤️❤️
when i was a kid i always thought i was so cool because when me and my freinds played with lightsabers i held mine backwards and when Ahsoka became a thing i loved the representation i got and my freinds thought my "style" wasnt goofy anymore, and than i got to grow up with ahsoka, favorite charecter since the begin, i hope we get more of her, where was she after malicore!
I am a life long Star Wars fan (since the 1970's) and Ahsoka is by far one of my favorite characters. Thank you for helping bring this wonderful character to life for all of us to enjoy, learn about, and witness her growth and story. The most important part of any good story is the growth and development of a character, and Ahsoka's story is one of the most compelling in the Star Wars universe. She is smart, strong, and full of conviction. I have a young daughter, and I would love her to emulate Ahsoka.
People didn't liked Ashoka much in the beginning, because they found her annoying, the same way people in general can find teenagers annoying. As her character was slowly being developed over the years, so did grew the appreciation of the fans for Ashoka.
I just realized that they did the same with Rebels. With Ezra he was that young Teenager in Rebels and he developed over the years too. To be not annoying.
@@thewok4131 No. Not really. Ahsoka went from believably annoying to fantastic. Ezra went from absolutely insufferable to just barely tolerable by the end of season 4. Ezra isn't annoying because he's a teenager. He's just flat out annoying in general.
They do need to earn respect, but they don't need to earn basic human decency in the way *some* fans react to them. See especially Rose/Kelly Marie Tran, but also Rey and Ahsoka when she started.
There’s nothing wrong with female leads. There’s something wrong with badly-written leads. This is the difference between Ahsoka and Rey, something that the woke idiots at Lucasfilm fail to see.
I had the pleasure of meeting her before and she is honestly the sweetest person! Love that she has created my favourite character of all time and has used her platform for good. She should be proud of what she has accomplished and how many lives she has changed!
God, I can't even begin to explain how much Ahsoka means to me. I was maybe 7 or 8 when my dad took me to see the Clone Wars movie. The second she walked on screen, I saw her and she became my favorite. I've grown up beside her practically, and when my life got really tough, I always had her beside me in a way. Clone Wars has brought me so many fond memories and I'm excited and sad to see it wrap up on the fourth. Ashley was and always is the perfect person for Ahsoka Tano, and I'm grateful for all that she and Dave Filoni have done. They made my childhood worth it. 💙
Ahsoka has been my favorite character from the beginning. I love her story and she reminds me of myself in so many ways. I bawled my eyes out when she left the order, and was always waiting for her return!! Ashley brought her to life like so one else could. Ahsoka and Rex were always my favorite characters and I love them to this day❤️
i agree Ashoka is a legacy, more then Rey is and its not the "shes a woman" its she doesnt train anything jedi, till the last film, but Ashoka train from the movie and keep learning
What endeared Ahsoka to so many of us was here growth. To being overeager and accidentally triggering the sentry droids in the movie, to being the able commander leading the Siege of Mandalore.
Ahsoka is one of the best developed characters in SW and Ashley brought her to life. There's so much emotion and humanity in her voice. I don't know how she does it...what a pro!
Ahsoka has long been my favourite Star Wars character, and learning about Ashley's work in the fan community is amazing. So much respect for this talented actress, and wonderful human being!!
I truely wish she was the one who would be playing her in live action. It's her character. She made it a success. I mean so did the good writing but she deserves a lot of the credit. It makes me sad because I think she really wanted to play her live too.
Ahsoka Tano's story arc = The greatest modern mythological story arc that's still ongoing. Its been almost 2 decades and Her amazing arc is still expanding. SW unlike many contemporary franchises doesn't have to "Reboot", cause this lore is vast via the SW Calendar. You can literally fill in the gaps spanning thousands of years.
Ahsoka literally went from being trashed on every forum to the most loved character from the entire series. So glad the last season was so heavily focused on her.
I've watched the Clone Wars in 2019 cause I never had access to cable. When I got Disney+, I grinded and loved every moment. Ahsoka was beyond my favorite character and the best written character of all time for me ❤️
Ahsoka is an awesome character with an amazing story. Every time I watch Rebels and I hear Vader say “Ahsoka” through his damaged mask it just takes me back. Ashley did an amazing job. Hate to hear how cruel people can be.
Being a Star Wars fan since 1977 I hadn’t seen the Clone Wars till recently at the behest of my boys. After the watching of the Mandalorian raised some questions, they said I could find some answers in the CW. I am so glad I did. Ashley is such a genuine person and has such a radiant smile and personality. She definitely gave us a great character and made us believe in her (Ahsoka).
I think it's great what Ashley did for Star Wars. In the beginning there was a lot of hate but she had hope, hope that she could help this characters grow and develop of the course of the Clone Wars and into Rebels. You brought all fans together, and Ahsoka is one of our favorite characters to date. From the bratty "Snips" to the woman that faced down her old master turned evil. Ahsoka has become a staple of the star wars story. Great Job Ashley! And thank you!
Leon Russell I’m well aware. Clone Wars used to be on Cartoon Network, and technically she is not a princess, or even Disney, but she is a Disney princess to me.

Harvey An-Nasir Salah ad-Din Royce I highly doubt that. Ahsoka got character development. Rey did not change at all throughout the course of the sequel trilogy.
@@furiouslydashing290 Doesn't matter. If you grow up watching a trilogy you love you overlook these problems. That's why people today in their 20's love the prequels... as they grew up watching them. That's why initially everyone (and i remember it) EVERYONE was throthing at their mouth with rage at Ahsoka. Main difference here is that Ahsoka had time to "grow" over 7 seasons and a film. Eventually, new fans coming into star wars diluted the neckbeard hate and eventually some of the neckbeards had a shave.

Ahsoka has helped me so much to remember to keep fighting even as I face death. the thought of dying scares me, but Ahsoka faced it all the time, and was so brave
Caleb Morgan the difference is development. Ashoka was given a full 6 seasons to be developed and fleshed out, with 7 helping even more. She was moulded by those who knew how to, while Rey and Co are just characters with no flaws, and any development time they could have is replaced by constantly moving along plot

I agree, unless the actor acted badly they should not be given backlash for something that they don’t control

Ahsoka is a better character than Rey. Just saying.
That's what this video is about, pitting one female character against another. Well done.
Ahsoka is definitely written better than Rey ever was.

And then she went on to be one of the most loved starwars characters ever.

"You don’t have to carry a sword to be powerful. Some leaders’ strength is inspiring greatness in others." -Ahsoka Tano- Ashley Eckstein
Hell I’m 34 and I lost it when Ashoka returned in Rebels, and I was ecstatic when I found out Clone Wars season 7 was coming out
@Splatoonist Productions I completely agree with you. The relationship between Ahsoka and Anakin was very enjoyable. She really brought out the best in Anakin (as she was intended to do) and made Anakin a way more likeable character than he was in the movies. Anyone who can make a man out of that whiney brat, Anakin, deserves respect. lol
They mention that she was not well liked at first, but that's because she was supposed to be like Anakin, brash and impulsive.
It's honestly hard for me to grasp Star Wars was ever a thing without Ahsoka Tano. Literally the character has become so essential to Star Wars.
my initial dislike of Ahsoka had nothing to do with her being female
she was just annoying
but Dave Filoni did an amazing job with this character and now shes my favorite right beside Kreia
I've never heard in my life someone complain about a male character just being "annoying." Literally any female real or imagined catches that complaint. It's not a coincidence. @@idontneedthis66 Thing is, she was always intended to be a bit annoying. Just like Anakin was. Yoda wanted Anakin to have a student as troublesome as he was. Ashley brings so much to the character that I nearly cried during Season 7 when she met Anakin. We couldn't have asked for a better character nor voice actor.

Brianna Apling me too.

Boy are you in for a treat
I was one of those little girls ❤❤ little 8 year old me watched the star wars clone wars movie and was absolutely hooked. I have always had a deep love of star wars and Ahsoka. She was my childhood. Thank you ashley for everything youve done for us 💕💕
Hoping when the clone wars is over it won't be the end of the Ahsokas story. I hope there's a standalone movie/show. Or if the mandalorian rumors are true I hope the character is played by Ashley. Because she has truly worked so hard to build up this character from nothing to something incredible.
