The Vervet Forest is a wildlife rehab series focused on Vervet Monkeys at the Vervet Monkey Foundation. Roddy is truly one of the sweetest babies I've seen in all of the seasons!
Usually I think the baby girls are so.much cuter but Roddy is just absolutely adorable..everything about him..his sounds..how small he was,how he clings to human for safety..he's just a doll baby
I love listening to Dave describing his thoughts on what's happening in a particular scenario. He's very knowledgeable about these little cuties. Dave, you make it even more interesting to watch. Thank you & all your staff & volunteers for what you do to help & safe these monkeys to give them their life back! It might not be their original family but in the end they are so happy. ❤🐒

same. I'm always a sucker for the slightly "broken" ones :( They have it much harder than the rest and sometimes they don't even realize it, which makes some of the more resilient & courageous. :)
Once a special one comes into sight & into your life, it brightens up your days, melts your heart and it will "choose" you...After this, no matter how many come & go, that first favorite one will always have a special place deep down, and all the others are just filler. ;)

Chibi's quite a character! It's interesting to see the difference between a monkey thats been a pet and the little ones. I also feel sad for him. I am glad that he's in your hands. You always treat all the monkeys with kindness and love.

Roddie is priceless - what a treat for the human baby mama! The young lady with him is such a sweetheart - so gentle and caring! Chibi reminds one of a pre-adolescent with ADHD - roughhousing little stinker! So busy and full of nonsense! He's a job to clean up after, for sure! His companions don't seem to grasp his behavior, fortunately. LOL Thank you for the wonderful video and amazing care of these babies!

I find it so amazing how these infant monkeys have so many skills that are instinctual/imprinted; grasping/holding onto their Mother, warning calls, climbing, etc but they are still So adorably inquisitive when they are still so new to this 🌍. They are incredible, and Roddy is so darn CUTE!❤️❤️❤️

What a wonderfully comprehensive episode! Roddy is such a little heart-stealing angel. Watching his reactions to his new environment and his mobility becoming more stable is fascinating. So glad to see the all the progress going on there....Chibi's antics can't help but make me laugh....the new enclosure and surgical facility are beautiful! I enjoyed seeing the several construction stages. This video was I'm sure very time consuming to produce, and is very much appreciated. I'll be watching it again.., and again. You may not realize it, but these videos are stress-busters...very uplifting and healing to the spirit, countering the harsh news in the world. I'm grateful to all of you for the tireless, loving work you do to save, heal and protect these precious beings, body and spirit.
Wow, Roddy is doing so well after only being a week old. He must have only just been born a day or two
before he was found with his umbilical still attached. He sure has adapted well to suckling at the milk bottle.

I'm Lisa R. who named him. Roddy is so unbelievably cute!!!! I got lucky that he is so darn cute and healthy. It is so much fun naming them and watching their progress. I also have gotten the biggest kick out of the pattern of one of his blankets, the leopard print one! Just by sheer coincidence, my whole apartment is decorated with leopard print, so I think it's so funny that you are using a blanket with that pattern. This is great fun watching this little baby. and showing my friends.
It was great to see more aspects of your foundation. And a special thanks to the person who donated enough funds to enable you to upgrade to a new medical building. Please say the name again, I think that person deserves a bigger acknowledgement. The donation must have been pretty large to enable the full new building!

Roddy's daily development of his strength and agility is amazing. He seems to have a lot going on with his left hand and arm - like a kind of nervous tic? Or maybe he's just testing out what each limb is for?
I bet he will come on in leaps and bounds once some more babies arrive for him to wrestle with! You could do with Floki back as extra Nanny!
Chibi really is a challenge! Literally bouncing off the walls. Hope he gets the hang of calmer behaviour from the others soon.

I was captivated by his left hand too! Always the left one, and the gestures seem rather complex. It’s like he’s trying to convey something - but that’s probably something my anthropomorphising human brain is conjuring lol. Maybe he’s mirroring his human caregivers (if they gesture with their hands when they talk)?
I wonder if monkeys have dominant hands like we do. I would expect so, considering even cats have one dominant front paw.

One of my favorite things to watch is when your camera people are filming up close to the fence & then all of a sudden a monkey face appears. Sometimes they lick the camera or other times the just admire themselves in the reflection. Young or the older monkeys, it dosen't matter, they are all so stinkin cute! ❤🐒❤🐒🙈🙉🙊

Hello from New Jersey (USA), you guys and Dave are amazing, so glad Roddy is doing good as well as Uncle Floki, so sad 😞 that Roddy lost his momma, but he couldn’t ask for better fill ins !! Just love watching him explore. Even if he cheated 😉!
Love to give him (Roddy) a hug and play but he’s a wild animal and is right where he belongs since 😔 his mom went MIA !!

The new surgery building is going to be so much better and is looking good. Chibi sure is a character and full of energy. Little Roddy is so adorable and coming right along. I love his little chatter, he sounds different to me then the other baby monkeys. Is that because he hasn't been around other babies?

Tip for measuring head circumference if using string rather than a measuring tape: create a slip knot in one end and slip the knot so you have a loop in it large enough to go over the largest part of his head and then you can pull the string back through the loop until snug using just one hand so other hand is free to control baby. Then all you have to due is hold the knot tightly so the string does not slip while taking the string loop off his head. Once you have both hands free then you can mark the place where the string is through the slip knit and then pull the string out straight and measure from just below the actual knot to where the mark is on the string. I looked for growth charts for head circumference for velvets specifically and found none that were not speculative. Accurate ones would need to track 100s of infants all measured at the same age to get a percentile growth chart and I guess there has not been such a study. So a baseline would help you make sure the head was growing although it maybe anyone guess if too much, to little or normally. It's not really possible to take one or two and have them serve as a baseline to compare others too. Growth charts are compilations of 100s and 100s of samples of an animal followed closely through their ages and once compiled you can see where the majority lay along a median and then determine what are those that make the highest and lowest and which stats have to be thrown out as off the charts at either end. Only working from a few samples can give pretty bad stats as they may be ones that land far out side a growth curve and so may not be on a median or normal growth at all and that could lead you to mistakenly thinking other you compare to a very small sample as growing well or suffering from failure to thrive or growth retardation when actually they might be the ones really on the median but compared to a small sample to judge by gives the wrong information.
The better way to do this would be, when you can accurately determine age within 5 days by age markers such as densities, and record all the growth parameters you can related to weekly age. Any that you cannot get 8 weeks of age information get excluded from the data and then you start compiling the growth data until you can see patterns where a majority at a certain age are all close in numbers which can give you a median or 50th percentile and then those that are above or below that curve and how many create you percentiles for those growing better then the average percentile and those that lag behind.

Actually, Roddy is my last name and I am glad I was able to name two of the new incoming monkeys. However, the analogy of the name is not lost on me. I kind of thought that in the back of my mind. I was so very excited the first time I saw a new video come up with the name RODDY in the title. It was a very fun thing to be able to do. And I'm so lucky that the name got attached to such a cute and healthy little one!

Sweet Roddy, such a beautiful little miracle! It's too bad there isn't a breastfeeding mom to pair him with and accept him...but the bottle feeding is a better idea cause I wasn't thinkng about how other fosters might want to steal the baby and such so I understand. But soon enough he will be cuddled in his foster moms fuzzy warm arms! ( This foundation is probably one of the best foundations for animal rescue (in this case monkeys). That I have seen on you tube and such. I adore every single one of you oh and the staff too!l silly joke I know! Positive vibes and love sent straight from my heart to all of you. Xoxoxxo 🇨🇦🤟

Yes we have, but she had just lost her baby and was still producing milk, we happened to get a new baby in that had just lost its mom so worked out fine

This is the first video I've ever seen where the young and older monkey's are safe in there natural lifestyle that's been hurt or abandoned, and you do not have to worry about the monkeys being ripped apart by other monkeys. Other videos I've seen where baby monkeys have been taken from their mother and clothe it raised like a child for videos and then dumped into the wild not knowing how to protect themselves and very afraid and they end up being either killed or fallen from Big trees dead
Wow, how fast time goes by. Well, one year later and it's just as fun to watch, once again another big thank you for saving the lives of all these beautiful creatures and the ones we don't get to see as well. Something I found very interesting was the development of little Roddy in just 2 days. When he first arrived he struggled to balance on the perch and 2 days later he was climbing the mesh screen on the door.
