    Looking at the boat from astern, it sure looks like the engine is mounted too low. Also, it appears you have a high thrust propeller, which is made for power, not speed.

  • @henrycole8705
    @henrycole8705 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    That is a prop for pushing a large boat or sailboat only. It will never go past 12 mph

      This is true. It's a high thrust propeller. Not made for speed.

    Seafoam won't fix cracked ring

    Check out the Sea Foam tune up, use the spray version on the intake side. Does wonders on carbon build up much faster than just as a fuel additive. Scary fun too.

      Ill check it out for sure thanks!, what I fear is that it is internal damage because I tried marvel mystery oil and it didn't work as well I think I have a bad piston

    I have a 1972 13ft. Boston whaler with 25 Yamaha motor. It goes like hell. I was told it is waterlogged. Any thoughts on that?

    Not sure on outboards, but check the valve clearance on the lower cylinder. 4 strokes need valve adjustments after so many hours.

    Woah I was off this channel for like a year. Is this the same boat you were working on last year, literally digging down to the foam?? It looks awesome.

    Dang man. I fell your pain. I just bought a motor. Ran fine at the shop and at home. Bright jt out, once I got to high rpm it overheated. Replaced impeller, thermostat, oil, oil filter, fuel filter, gear case fluid. No luck. It’s 100% overheating cause I did a temp test. I’m so upset because I don’t know what to do and I’m 14 so I can’t afford a shop for 200$ an hour.

    • @oneofakindoutdoors
      @oneofakindoutdoors  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That stinks sorry to hear that man, what motor did you get?? Yea that's the part about boating that sucks is it is super fun to go out and go fishing and all that but when something bad happens it is SUPER expensive, good luck getting your motor back up on the water!

      @@oneofakindoutdoors I hung my motor yesterday and did a quick video , go check it out. Definitely see what it costs to repair it because a new 40 hp is close to $6,000

    Bummer! Hang in there that sucks! I thought my motor was bad but the gauge was bad. I bought the $29 gauge at Autozone (forget the brand) and it turned out the compression was perfect. Maybe try another gauge before buying anything. Also make sure both plugs are out and the the throttle is at full to get true compression (I manually have someone hold down the throttle at the motor). Good luck! I am almost finished with my 13ft Whaler project and stoked to get it on the water like you 🙌

    • @oneofakindoutdoors
      @oneofakindoutdoors  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yea the reason I said no harbor freight gauge is because that's what I had and used it on another project motor I had and it was reading super low and then I got another from AutoZone as well and it read perfectly, it was the one I used in this video and sadly I still get the low compression, honestly thinking of repowering but trying to find something at a reasonable price right now is impossible. Good luck with your whaler!

    I can see plainly why your boat is slow. Your motor is mounted too low. You need to get the cavitation plate just above the water when planing. You are probably lugging the engine……

      This is true. I noticed it right away. Funny how people will go to great lengths to ignore the obvious stuff.

    Seafoam is great. O'Reilly auto actually lent me a compression Guage for two days when I was working on an old evinrude. Live and learn. If the seller says a motor runs great and was hardly used...just Nod and assume it's just ok at best. Change the lines, the pump, intake, lower case oil. And then seafoam the hell out of it for a an hour or so. The good news is u learn about your motor which is proceless.

      You're 100% right, beginners mistake I guess cant really be too mad at myself. 100% knowledge is priceless too, I learned my lesson now LOL

    Both 2 and 4 strokes run cooler than an auto. Always and a fuel treatment , Mercury and Yamaha have them. They keep carbon from building up

  • @cocoloc055
    @cocoloc055 ปีที่แล้ว

    First, the blue smoke is of not burning carbon but of burning oil... Blue smoke is oil, white smoke is steam (burn head gasket), black smoke is excess unburned fuel... The low compression can be a stuck compression or oil piston ring... In your case were you have a 60psi on that cylinder, it looks like it is a stuck piston ring... The other theory is you can have a burned head gasket where you are losing compression to crank case and the piston is sucking oil from the oil passages that lubricates the cylinder head...

      @@oneofakindoutdoors I got my motor running the other day , ran some seafoam through it and cleaned the whole engine out. Found out yesterday the carburetor was leaking , but thank god it’s noting major.

  • @danpatrick9080

    Run it for like an hour with the seafoam. My evinrude had low compression but runs great. A new fuel pump could be an easy and cheap fix

    • @oneofakindoutdoors
      @oneofakindoutdoors  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I tested my fuel pump and it works idk, I also want to upgrade hp to go faster as well so I might just get a new motor.

  • @vivimu
    @vivimu 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Dude just sell it and buy a better motor. It's an 25" extra long shaft motor and your boat needs a 20" long. Also even if its running good, its under powered for your boat, and the prop will always sit too low. Imo sell it as is, and put the money towards a 30 or 40hp
