I read this back in July and loved it! I thought the ending with Death. I still need to pick up re 2nd volume, but I plan to get them all. Love Neil Gaiman.
Like I said in your haul post, I'm so glad that you are reading Sandman! It's my favorite graphic novel series ever. The main series only has 10 volumes, then there are some graphic novels that have been done in later years, that are not part of the main narrative, but still feature the same characters (the 11 & 12 you mentioned). I have the whole main series in the four massive Absolute Sandman volumes, as well as my favourite volume, Season of Mists, as a separate trade paperback, since I've got it signed! You're absolutely right that it takes a while to get into the story, as well as the comic itself takes a while to find its groove and find out what kind of a comic it wants to be. Sometimes the art also looks a bit dated. But with all that said, it is still a marvelous series that just gets better with each volume. The last issue in P&N, that you also mentioned, "The Sound of Her Wings", was the one that originally also hooked the readers and where the series really found its voice (like you said). You also described Dream's character perfectly, and I'm very glad that you mentioned the gorgeous cover artwork by Dave McKean! I'm really looking forward to you continuing on with the series!
Me too! I will be getting the next one as soon as I can find the money to do so as they're a little more pricy than a regular book! I'm jealous you have 4 huge bind ups, they sound cool, but I'm really excited to be able to continue through the series for my first time and it's kind of great going into the books without really knowing what they're all about and just learning as you go. I'm glad you love them and don't worry whenever I do get the next volume I will certainly be reviewing it :)
Great review. Have you done video reviews of the other Sandman volumes? I have read the whole series and I am looking forward to the Netflix show based on it.
i am really interested in getting into sandman, and the first sandman bok i must pick up has to be the absolute editions XD due to what this series does and the stories i feel that full on high quality format really does the series justice
Saw this video a while back and just wanted to say thanks for the recommendation :) I finished this at work earlier today and its very creepy at points in this, however I love that scene when our main character's in Hell where he does just set the standards, it was an ultimate bad ass exit, glad you made me realize this exists :) definitely gonna have to run into waterstones and get the next one :)
Indeed, I love it so far and I will be posting up some new videos over the next few days showing more in the series that I received for my birthday - YAY!
Another one of those graphic novels I keep in mind, but at the moment there are just too many great book releases for me to really start graphic novels.
I know what you mean! I've pretty much dedicated September to Graphic Novels (or at least the first half of it) and I have been loving them all, but I do want to get to some of the awesome books I planned to read too so I better get back to that soon!

Me too! He's a wonderful storyteller!

Glad to hear you loved it. I have really enjoyed the next few too and always like returning to the series myself!
Cool!
It's series like this that brought me into graphic novels. Dark, moody and wondrous.
