  • Boots on the ground in Lost Adams Gold Digging country, we end up within view of Gotch Ear's Dos Peloncios AKA Two Haystack Peaks, where he said the even better gold was located. It may be that many past searchers have been hung up on finding the lode (hardrock) source of the gold, and whiled away their years poking at faint gold deposits that were never rich enough to produce egg-sized nuggets - or in some cases locating the Adams Diggings far, far away at known deposits so they could say found! and retire from the field. A working theory is that the rich deposit, the likes of which has never been found anywhere else in the region - yes, I include Pinos Altos, Clifton, E-town and wherever else tired searchers have "settled" in their fading years - is of a unique but not unprecedented type where the originating geology is long gone and the heaviest material (gold) was not washed away because there is never enough alluvial pressure or force to move it. A deposit where the gold is "just laying there" - an oft-quoted translation of Sno-Ta-Hey, though I don't know how to verify that piece of the legend myself. Good luck to the searchers!

I would love to live in those areas and be able to get out and explore. It’s just so rich with history.

Get in your rig. There is a lot of public land you own in the West.

Dutchman mine and the lost Adam's mine are the same!

Remember, there are several different Adams stories even, just to complicate things. But, there seems to be very little overlap between the two (three) stories. Gold is found in more than one place, and both Adams and Walzer (Walz) were historical figures who lived and roamed very different geographies.

When they use peloncillos to descrive geography i think its these long straight rock formations i see in the area of the Gila.

Interesting. I am used to that word corresponding to a shape resembling the little cones of sugar sold throughout Mexico (google image it up). Seems like a fairly universal analogy. But that's the game: look for where the majority is wrong and you may have a reason why they all missed it and it may still be there - whatever the "it". Even applies in science and R&D.
