Every time he stuck his arm out it was like a thriller movie, waiting for the river monster to come out of no where! So glad it ended well..thoroughly enjoyed the video. He looked like a happy young man. Well done 👏 😋
Micah, I manage a bait production shop here in Washington and I can 100% tell you that the fresher the bait the better it works. You want bait with smell for sure, but not bait the is stinky and going bad. Its a common misconception. Fresh bait that is oily or very natural strong scent but FRESH is the best. I also suggest using a multi bait setup. Like grind up fresh oily fish and freeze it in a freezer bag (we make them into pucks at work in plastic soup cups then vacuum seal the puck in a bag) then poke holes in the bag (while frozen) put that hanging from the top of your pot and that is basicallyfor the scent and to attract them. But then put like a fresh fish head or whole fish in there for them to munch on so they stay in your pot. Works awesome. Cans of mackerel with holes poked in it works well too.

Finally you got a crab measurement... people think tape measure can do it but nope crab is rounded on top and people need to know... you should let people know in seen people do that and think it's a keeper but when I take out my crab measurement it's not... range that are look for crab poaching use crab measurement then a tape measurement

I noticed when you clean fish like sheepshead and redfish you might wanna bleed them a little and the cut out the blood line your fish will taste less fishy and more fresh also try sheepshead deep fried next time it is sooooo good.
Its not so muck the chicken meat that starts the breakdown and smells as much as it is the fats and oils between the skin and meat and the other soft tissue like the skin itself.
Its frowned upon in Maryland to keep females. Legal, but frowned upon. They sell 'em, but folks don't *typically* buy 'em. Ya know, for reproductive reasons. If you see a dozen males is $45, but a dozen females sells for $30, you might grab the dozen females to save a few bucks. *Don't be surprised* if you get a *dirty look, or two*

Fished the blue crab under bridegs in the bayous near Galveston using chicken legs on a string. Got piles of them in no time. Yes they are very sweet. Aunt made crab cakes from them

Just a little constructive criticism: Don't play with raw meat then touch your camera, or anything for that matter. Definitely unsanitary and increases risk of salmonella, e coli, etc. Other than that, the thumbnail is already getting me hungry 😁. Also if you didn't know already, there is a lot of meat in the main body of the crab.
If you eat all the calls and stuff from the crab then you can take the other legs and the inside of the crab take McGill's out of it and then boil again and then break all the meat out of it and you can make a crab soup and it's so good and you have some biscuits with it so it's amazing.
Thanks for letting the one claw and almost go to get bigger during matting the male and female let go was a super nice thing to do for the species of the blue crabs 👍🐊🌴
For me, in connecticut, the crabbing season hasn't been that great, less crabs and most are under 5 inches. I don't think i've seen a six incher all season. But there's always next season!
Interesting Chicken Stationary Baiting Crab Netting experiment. I think using traps is still a better method. The long food Tongs are very effective for catching Crayfish, handling Crabs, Spiny Fishes etc! Good that you let the female and male crab couple go to propagate, that was the correct thing to do, way to go! I find using Sea Weed to layer store crabs in plastic buckets for sustaining, keeping the crabs alive for the long journey home. Nice to Lobster&Crab excavating Tool set! I use Chop Sticks for excavating the meat out of; Crabs, Crayfish and Lobster. Wishing you safe adventures and journeys!
Hey micah,great day crabbing ,I grew up on the coast of Connecticut and we used to go crabbing at night with big lights connected to batteries and we used to get loads of blue crab,maybe you could do a video of night crabbing,that would be awesome,I also one day fought a 10 inch softball crab,that was my biggest softball and it tasted great,good luck to you and ace and me antient
In the Chesapeake bay, we use fresh chicken. I lived in South Carolina for about 12 years, but I never tried crabbing there, the shrimp are too easy...
Nice vid, however... there really is NO comparison of blue crab to dungeness. Dungies have a sweeter taste and, bonus, way more meat. Blues are good, don't get me wrong. But, Dungies are superior in flavor and yield. Let's not even get started on King Crab... SO. MUCH. MEAT.

Next time, grab them right at the top joint of the rear paddle legs, they can't reach you from there. -Tip from someone who catches and eats 100+ dozen blues a year in Louisiana. Our regulations are fairly relaxed as well, no real size limit for recreational, just can't keep females during a certain time of the year as well as most places are 12doz per vehicle per day.
It seems counter productive spending that much on chicken just to catch some crabs. I understand crab meat does cost more but I also understand this isn't about the most economical way to catch crabs, but rather showing an idea you came up with. Cost is just one of the first things that come to mind for me being a frugal person. If I'm hunting or fishing it's more than likely as a sustainable food source that cost me only what it takes to catch it. The enjoyment is a bonus!! The entertainment aspect of your video is still amazing and enjoyable so no shade thrown! Just offering up throughts and opinions. keep up the good work!!

They are delicious the blue crabs but please don’t take more than you need. There used to be plenty of crabs in our local waters but they are getting fewer. Slowly just being fished out as people take the breeders and way to many of them.

Even if it were gators there it ok. I live in Louisiana where they do this in infested waters never heard of an attack while checking crawfish traps.
