Mexican fans for the most part are going to ride for Canelo because he’s Mexican. They’ll even lie to themselves to do it. It’s a tribal thing. It’s an ego thing. They built this guy up so much in their heads that their psyche can’t process a loss.

THat's true if you let him stay at distance. The trick with an elusive fighter like FM is to feint and get close and turn it into an inside fight. You also have to be able to fight very "square on" to cut off Floyd's ability to evade both left and right. That's how Roberto Duran would have fought him. This was an early version of Canelo, his ability to feint (and feint well) came later. In this fight he was very much one-two from distance.

Whenever someone says Floyd ran, just direct them to this video. Those who have never laced up a set, trained, sparred etc, could never appreciate how clean of a boxer Floyd was. Key word “BOXER” Distance management is brilliant, he offsets the timing by changing the tempo and power of his punches, and his defense is master class level. Just the way he stood in the pocket, rolled with the punches while countering with his own is a feat not many can do with such efficiency.

But in reality Canelo is already a 43 fights, 7 world championship veteran unified world champion and top 10 pound for pound boxer when he met Floyd. That's not a record of a still inexperienced boxer. He may not at the top of his prime. But he's near there. And that's should not be an excuse especially that Floyd is already past his prime.
