Saw this on your Instagram and it made me wonder how you did it, glad you put out a video on it. My logo was too complicated to mill added to the fact that I don’t have a mill lol. Ended up just etching my reversed logo very deep into some round high carbon so that the logo is in the negative space of a small circle, hope this is helpful to some other makers with limited equipment👍🏼

Nice stamp. I'm wondering if it could be heated to temp where it would not only stamp leather but burn the leather making the makers mark brnaded into the leather as well.

Oh yeah that's a great idea! I'm sure that would work just fine. It's just mild steel. I figured I didn't need to go through the hassle of a hardenable steel just for leather stamping but I'm sure it would do just fine as a brand too. I'll have to give it a try👍

Do you think an aluminum bar would be hard enough for stamping leather, or should it be nothing less than steel?

I would guess it would last decently. 👍

Do you recommend a book that describes each knife style and why the lines and proportions are the way they are.

Ah dang, you did go to the mill, was hoping you were going to do it with hand tools. I've been thinking about making a stamp as well, but it's probably going to be done mostly with files, and I'll probably have to use brass stock or something relatively soft to keep the work hours down. But either way, I like the video man :)

Top tip for maker's mark stamps. Put that sucker in your lathe and lathe a cylinder at the top end, then you can put it in a drill press and get a super even press, works well if you're heating your stamps for wood too.

Somebody at TH-cam is trolling your videos. That's the second video I've watched where the next video was from Nepal or Pakistan.

That's weird. How does that work? I'm not sure I understand what's happening or what it means.

Can be used to brandish wood as well.

I’m always clenching my teeth when use those small end mills!!
Was it a 1/16” or 3/32”? They almost always break...
I use a bunch of 1/8” bits daily!!!

Do you dampen your leather before stamping it?

  • @realsupercopter

Haha, I've always assumed your 3 stripes logo was a representation of the 3 words "simple little life", with the middle stripe being smaller because it stands for the word "little"! Now I stand corrected! 😉

All this work for a stamp so simple in design. Doesn't seem worth it.
