    This southern gal fell in love with Sorrel at a young age visiting family up North during the holidays. I’ve had a few cultures versions Trinidadian, Jamaican, Mexican and Senegalese. All delicious! I’m currently growing a plant for the 1st time

      SO good.... AND effective.
      I don't get a long enough season for a substantial harvest of calyxes, but I grow several of them every year to stock up on the leaves!!
      I went to your page to answer because IDK what kind of audience is in this space (and I reserve sharing sustainable knowledge except with *genuine* folks), but your comments are disabled, so I'll do a video on it rather than share details here and I'll tap your shoulder & let you know when it's posted (probably in a week or two) because since utube doesn't like that I share *ACTUAL* knowledge with MyTribe, I can prettymuch guarantee that they likely won't give you notifications for My uploads, lol..... I love hibiscus tea. Such great 👍🏼 formation Dan. I bet if you steamed fish in parchment paper and added the hibiscus leaves, it would hold in all of the flavor and turn a pretty color. A chef once taught me to cook fish in parchment paper and I loved it.

    Now that you mentioned about having Roselle tea in Jamaica I am hoping I get my little plant going and then I will send some Calyxes to my former bosses. They were English Jamaicans and used to love finding Scotch bonnets growing as a decorative plants in Boca Raton, where I used to be a Bridal Consultant for their Bridal business. I know they would be so grateful for the roselle. Sweet people and great to work for too.I missed what you feed to that Roselle it is huge Dan!

      Roselle is thriving industry in India: In fact, the country is the fourth largest exporter of roselle plant parts to Germany and the fifth largest exporter of plant parts to the US for the nation’s thriving tea companies

    Dan, I thought I was subscribed. I selected this video and was like WHAT! Not subscribed to Dan’s channel, what’s going on! I have to try to grow it again my seeds didn’t germinate. I’ll try to germinate it in the house now and over winter or perhaps wait until January and start in the house. I enjoyed the video.😊🌱

    How long does it take roselle to flower ?

    • @Danfoodforest
      @Danfoodforest  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Roselle is day-length sensitive”, the light cycle affects when the plant will bloom. .. shorter days you will start to seeing flowers

      🤔sorrel and ginger sounds delicious! I have ginger ready for picking now but the sorrel is still very young. I can imagine how potent that drink would be to harvest both fresh from the garden.

    My roselle is just now fruiting but my climate is about to play out (7b) - can the calyxes be harvested before blooming to use for tea? Are the health benefits compromised? Love your accent!

    • @Danfoodforest
      @Danfoodforest  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Deniser , Thank you for checking out the video
      The calyxes do need to push blooms before harvest .. -5-7 days after the blooms you can harvest
      are you growing the plants in containers ?

    • @dreyno64
      @dreyno64 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Danfoodforest sadly no - and frost is coming soon. Next year I’ll plant earlier to avoid this. I went ahead and picked a mix of pre and post bloom. I figured even weak benefits were better than none. Leaving some for seed.

    Oh my goodness, I am swimming in zucchini. I am making fritters, bread, everything. Sorrel is really good in chicken. I don't think we can get the cranberry hibiscus in my neck of the woods.

      Zucchini is a prolific producer... Will be growing a few plants next month
      If you get 2 months of Summers in the high 80s ... you will be able to grow it .. ( Roselle/Cranberry Hibiscus )
      Thank you so much

    I decided to try growing roselle in a 17 gallon pot. I think I may have planted too many seeds in there. The plants are short and are just now starting to flower. I planted two different kinds. One is called Thai Red Roselle and the other St. Kitt & Nevis Roselle. I don’t know if there is a difference or if this is just where the seeds originated.

    • @Danfoodforest
      @Danfoodforest  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It grows pretty wide and tall too .. There are different varieties .. I think the difference is the size of the calyces
      Do you have more of the Thai Red Roselle seeds ?
      Thanks for watching ... Have a good evening

      Dan Permaculture Food Forest unfortunately, I planted both packages of seeds. That’s why I believe I have too many in the pot. LOL. Here is where I got them.
