- These SVS Ultra Evolution speakers really caught me off guard. I had the preconceived notion that SVS was just a subwoofer and Home Theater speaker builder. I was very mistaken. The Ultra bookies sounded very good indeed.

Good to hear your perspectives on these speakers. I have the previous generation Ultras, as you know, and love them. I will have to place these in a bucket list for future replacement if necessary. Thank you as always for your content, time, and efforts sharing this with us all. Stay well, my friend.
Thank you my friend.
I am Ultra impressed with the evolution of your reviews!
I call it TH-cam Darwinism.
Thx for the detailed and thoughtful review. Also- amazing music recommendations. I find myself adding to library everything you suggest.
I am so glad to hear that. Thank you.
There are just so many bookshelf speakers out there. Thanks for contributing your review on these. The SVS
Oops like a great design and execution. Great review Ed! Loved the music choices. The End Of The Innocence is a phenomenal record. It’s well recorded and produced, and the music is awesome. Really shows Don Henley’s broad range of talents.
Thank you sir.
I love the albums you introduce to me to in your reviews.
I am so glad to hear that. I get some commenters who tell it's a waste of their time. I am going to continue to include the album recommendations because I like sharing that. Isn't that why we got involved in all this Hifi shenanigans?
Really liked the inclusion of the music material and description of it as well that was a well done review!
Thank you so much.
Thank You Ed for another great review! I enjoy Both the Equipment and the Music you review. My play list has grown thanks to your work. Bravo my friend! 👍👍👍
Thank you my friend. Happy New Year.
Another detailed and comprehensive review. 👍 Thanks again Ed!
Thank you my friend. Happy New Year.
Great review to start the new year! I heard the SVS Ultra Evolution series of speakers at a presentation by SVS at our NFM store a few months ago. The Titan was nice but the Pinnacle was the beautiful beast with such deep sound no sub was needed! Definitely would consider them if I was shopping, fortunately I am very happy with my Martin Logan Motion 60XTi. Still treasure the Wharfdale Diamond 225 in my study. My Christmas present this year was an SVS 3000 micro sub for my study. Impressive. My first SVS product.
Thanks for the wonderful reviews and the music selection you do. I’ve enjoyed listening to your choices and have created a playlist to help me come back and listen to them after your review.
Thank you my friend. Hoping 25K subscribers for 2025 Q1!
Thank you so much Ralph. Thank you for your support since the very beginning of the channel. You have a great set up for sure. I am glad you enjoy the albums. I hope you and the family had a great holiday. Fingers crossed on the subscriber count. Hell, I never imaged it would get to this number.
Another great review Ed. I have to check out Olivia Belli. Always appreciate your music recommendations. Keep the great reviews coming!
Thank you sir.
Hey Ed. Great video. The price seems decent for these. 👍
Yes. I was not expecting the refinement they exhibited. I think I would take the Dalis of I had to choose. Thx.
I have a 300 watt SVS PB1000 sub, and it's amazing.
Very nice!
Nile "Ramses, Bringer of War" is a great way to test dynamics.
I will give them a listen. I did delete your Eagles post. I am not big fan either but, I want to keep things pleasent and friendly. I hope you understand. Thx
Added more songs to the playlist, many songs, little time. Thank you
Tha.nk you for your videos Sir.
I listen to chamber music ,jazz, vocal music, what speacer would you recommend in the 1 to 2000 us region.
Best regards reinhart
So hard to say. What are you looking for? Stand mount or tower? For a stand mount I really liked the Dali Opticon 2 MkII. Fir towers I love my Wharfedale Diamond 12.4s. Lots of choices.
@OldGuyHifi thank you Sir!
I own several Klipsch bookshelf and tower speakers, i love and hate them. Is the detail different or the same
You need to know I am not a fan of the Klipsch sound. I grew up with K-Horns and it ruined me. IMHO, the SVS had a fat more detailed and another top end. A completely subjective statement. So take it with a grain of salt. Thx for tuning in.
The original Ultras were similar, they handle dynamic swings very well. I had mine paired with Peachtree nova150 and came to the same conclusion that class d is not a good pairing.
I found the Advance Paris unit to be the best for my ear. Thanks for watching.
What is your opinion on Tidal streaming service and what is your source for online music.
I use both Tidal and Qobuz. I stream everything through Audirvana running on a purpose built PC. I tend to like the sound of Qobuz better. I use tidal for the reviews because more folks have access to it. Thx for asking.
Hey Ed, there's a lot of crossover parts for a little 2 way . I saw 1 film capacitor and a small air inductor for the high pass with 2 resistors for an l pad and that's the high pass filter and they are 13 more parts just for the low pass ? They must have to beat it in submission to get them to play nicely together
I don't know. They sounded good. You know me if it sounds good it is good. Thanks my friend.
@@OldGuyHifi I agree with you on that. I didn't want to come across negative but it had me curious 🤔. I wrote you a small story about my speakers on my profile picture that I built but I deleted it because it was so long I described every detail of my build and I know you're busy. But take a peak if you want.
@BostonMike68 Sir if you do build your on speakers/ crossover s I would love to speak with you please sir ,thanks for your time .👍🍺👍
@@TheNLHAZE hey hru you doing, I am Mike
@@BostonMike68 hi Mike I would very much like to talk to you about a speaker build a set of speakers that is may I give you my email address I would very much like to chat with you thank you so much for responding back please let me know how I can chat with you cheers and have a great day.🍺👍🍺
Will you do a review of the SPL Elector preamp? I'm very curious how it works. Thanks.
I will if they have a review sample. It won't be able to a few months. I have so much stuff here already but, It is on my list. Thx for the suggestion.
@@OldGuyHifi That would be great. Thank you so much.
Thank you. Why do you think not more loudspeakers are built with cabinet angles for time alignment? I remember my Technics speakers from the late 1970's were time aligned.
All dynamic speakers are time aligned by/in the X-over, and these are also that. The time alignment made by this cabinet here are 90% "just" for the looks, and they are great looking bookshelfs. Read up on time alignment, and you'll understand how complex time alignment and fase is, when building a dynamic speaker. I hope this answered your question half way.
@@chrisvand2678 Many thanks.
Cost and maybe buyers preconceived notions on how a speaker should look. Time alignment has been around for decades and it still a big thing today mostly in expensive "high end" speakers. Great point. Thx.
Great video Ed, have you listened to the musical artist Enya. Some of her music sounds great on my audio system, Caribbean blue and only time are my favourite songs from her. Take care.
Yes. I know her well. We saw her live about 10 years ago. She is great. She may appear in a video soon. Who knows? Thank you for the view and comment.
The angled front ('time alignment') is probably just part of the marketing. 99.9 percent of speakers don't have angled front, so, does it mean that most of us live in an audiophile world of constant time delay between the drivers?
Time aligned designs have been around for years. If you look at more expensive speakers you will see that layout more often. I think if the market had responded to those design that you would see them more often. Also, I'm not sure many people are aware of or understand the reason for a time aligned design. Besides the number of people, like us, who are audio enthusiasts is small. You can actually time align any speaker a bit just by propping up the front of the speaker by cm or so with some rubber feet. It is not perfect buy you can hear a subtle difference primarily in imaging. For 99.9% of the world a speaker "should" look like a box. Thanks for tuning in.
I, along with a lot of otherrs, appreciate your reviewing of equipment that is able to be afforded. Some poor people out there have been brainwashed into thinking you have to spend many thousands of dollars on each piece to get good sound. You don't even have to spend thousand on each piece to get amazing sound. Some audio channel Guy who is also an audio dealer and does nothing but live broadcasts at night now, nearly every night, responded to my comment one time and told me he has a great streamer for me for $25,000....WHAT???? I thought. That would disqualify it (by far) for me then. Even if I become a billionaire, I'd be danged if I'd spend $25,000 on a streamer. Apparently the incredibly high price is actually an attraction to some people. Maybe they figure it's actually worth $25,000. I doubt if any audio equipment is; or ever was.
At some point it is all relative. Like buying a Bugatti. If can afford it, why not. That did I am happy peddling along in my 12 year old Honda. It is possible to get a lot of pleasure from affordable gear. It's the music that should come first. Thx for tuning in.
If one is rich, and really wants something, perhaps what most people think of as exorbitantly high prices are merely trivial. But some high end dealers try to evoke some kind of fantasty quality about those things that are not bourne out when actually listening to it. I remember the first time I heard Audio Research. Good, but they had me expecting something trailing clouds of glory. The sound quality can only be as glorious as the quality of the source. I believe you can pretty much nail it for well under $7,000; total system cost. Maybe near a third of that used. Just my opinion and experience.
I agree with you on that it is all subjective and you don't need to spend a ton as long as you choose carefully. Thx.
A TH-cam Audio person, who is also a designer of stereo amplifiers, a few months back said that less powerful models in a company's line might sound better. Since more powerful amps need more transistors and it is very hard to match up individual transistors perfectly. So I tried a lesser powered integrated amp I had laying around, versus a top of the line integrated from the same company both vintage and from same series and years,(the front panel looks virtually identical). Sure enough the lesser powered amp sounded like simpler signal path, which resulted in a definitely more open sound, and a bit smoother I think. Sometimes less is more, including price!
Call me shallow, but I can't get over the way SVS speakers look. I do like the baffle shape in these, but overall, they just dont look premium to me, though I dont doubt they sound good.
In the gloss finishes they probably look better. I will say they are very well built and solid. At $1200.00 I think they are fine. I would go Dali personally. Thx Jim.
SVS made a speaker to antagonize kitties.
And spouses. Lol.
Great review. For me anyway, sounds like I'd lean more towards the Dali sound.
Honestly, me too.
I was Right then .... I just 'Knew' U would Like the Olivia Belli 'Recommendation' .... Glad you 'Approve' ... 😍 My own preference for the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto ( BTW - My own Fave Violin Concerto, regardless of the Composer ) is the Classic Recording by ... Szeryng / Munch / Boston Symphony Orch. I have the Original Vinyl release on RCA. Listen to the Brilliant 'Living Stereo' recording on Tidal. And the 'Low Strings' have some 'Umph' behind them, even when playing Fairly Quiet ... An Amazing Recording for 1959. And, they actually play the 'Brass Climax' ''Triplets'' in the 1st movement. ( The first one is at 5m 54s ) Many recordings are just 'lazy' and play these a 'Semi-Quavers' ! ! Aaaaargh ! 😈 Did U listen to the excellent Malia / Boris Blank album ... Convergence ? ? Your Opinions ? Or is that coming up in a future 'review' ? Any update on getting the Acoustic Energy speakers ? ATB. x
I will listen to Boris and Malia soon. Holidays, family and such. It will take some time to get the ATC speakers. I will keep you posted. Nothing was going to happen over the holidays anyway. Thanks again for your suggestions. I do appreciate hem very much.
I don't see it from those cheap Klipsch looking binding posts, I'm sure the crossover is garbage, no bracing, etc. SVS are the Kings of marketing.
Chief Petty Officer Durnell, First, thank you for your service. Have you owned SVS products in the past? Have you had a negative experience with them? What is your basis for the negativity? You are entitled to your opinion for sure but can you back it up?
