  •  ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Great video! At 3:59 you mention that you should "start bending and then press". What does this actually mean? Does it mean that you should start by bending your upper body forward and then bend your legs ("getting the butt low"). Is pumping mainly an upper body motion, where you fold the upper body forward to "pump down" and then extend/straighten the upper body to "pump up". Or is it mainly a lower body motion where you bend your legs to pump down and extend your legs to pump up? Or is it a combination of the two?!

    • @chyeaOGKush
      @chyeaOGKush ปีที่แล้ว +1

      you bend the more airbourne you get to stay centered / with the board as you ride up the ramp and the press is pumping out transition - you press your weight into the transitions ( slighlty behind the board) to shoot you out faster -

    •  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@chyeaOGKush Ah, so "pressing" is the motion which makes the board almost shoot out from under your feet?

    • @ZorlanOtterby
      @ZorlanOtterby ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's mainly a lower body motion. "Bending" = drop butt low. "Pressing" = standing up from low position. The rhythm is to "press" while you're moving through the transition, and "bend" on either side of the transition. If you look at one wall of a ramp or bowl, there are four stages: 1. Drop your butt as you come through the flat bottom 2. Press through your feet to stand up straight as you go up the transition (this is pumping up) 3. Drop your butt again just as you get to the highest point on the wall 4. Press through your feet to stand up as you come down the transition (pumping down).
      On a miniramp or a bowl being skated like a miniramp as in this video, there are four pumps available for a full cycle: one up then one down on the left wall, followed by one up then one down on the right wall = 4 pumps. Of the three kids in the video, only the one in the green helmet was really getting all four pumps. The other two were mainly relying on down pumps for their speed, and it's why they had a harder time getting near the coping. The down pump feels more natural to many people, and it can take a while to figure out how to effectively do the up pump.

    •  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ZorlanOtterby Aha, so "pressing" is the "standing up" motion? Thanks for clarifying this! J.B. often mentions that you should "snap up" from the crouched position as you enter the transition from the flat bottom. But I guess "snapping up" and "pressing" both means "standing up" then?

    • @ZorlanOtterby
      @ZorlanOtterby ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @ Yes, that's correct. You press through the feet to snap up. If you put more power into the press/snap up motion, you'll generate more speed.

    At my local park there's a deep pool with about 10' high transition but it's only about 10' of flat also. I find a concrete seam and try to follow it as my warm up. It's a fast switch from side to side and I can only get about 6' high before I freak. These kids are doing great. It's nice there's places and people to help and practice these days.
