      Presumably measure the cross sectional circumference e.g. 2*width + 2*height. Divide that number by 2 and that's the minimum overall width of the pvc you need.
      Or just do cross sectional width + height

    That's a nice thermally insulated pack ...fine for cold climates but might cook the batteries in summer ... could put a thermocouple in the heart of the pack , be interesting to log the temp.

    Quick question for you, I am a hobbyist and I like to make electric long boards. I have a board that has three 4s 5,000 mah batteries. I have a BMS but I only want to use it for charging not for an output current. I have a speed controller for that. In the first picture you had he charging set up, now if i was to wire up all the sensor wires and wired the negative through the BMS then hooked up the positive to the positive on the battery hypothetically I could use the BMS as a balance charger. I also have as you put it an aluminum cased cooling fan charger that chargers it to the correct voltage.

    How do you determine heat shrink size? I'm trying to wrap a 4s battery pack with a radiating shell holder,but I don't want to order the wrong size. I found a formula (A+B=C)X(C X 1.5) and came up just under 158.75mm,but while searching I found that each option had 2 different sizes (Example: 188mm ( Circle with a vertical line through it 118mm) ). I don't want to assume that the line through it means equal to,and then end up with the wrong wrap.

    • @laurjoost9317
      @laurjoost9317 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      For reference: circle with vertical line is "diameter". If the diameter is 118 mm, then the circumference is 370 mm. Half of that (when the tube is flattened on a roll) is 185 mm, close enough that it matches 188 for the most common measurement this stuff is sold by: width when flat. So that is what the 188 mm is.

    Great vid! A question about the battery cases that you have linked in the description. Some of them come with a pre-made nickel belt that fits the structure of the battery case. Do you know if these belts are pure nickel and not nickel plated? Also do they need to be soldered down like you would with a nickel strip? Or would the encasement hold the belt in place? Thanks!

  • @GrubiBG

    One question - when one disconnect and connect BMS - what is the sequence, so old or new BMS is not smoked accidentally? First battery plus and minus to "main* terminals and then add balancing connector (on connect) and first balancing connector removal and them remove battery plus and minus from BMS (on disconnect) or I am wrong? I see post is quite old, but I hope someone is reading still. Thanks!

      Set it up in a way so that there is space between the batteries and make it so that air flows between them while you ride. Look up how Tesla motors would do it to their battery backs, maybe you can apply it to a bike.

  • @rayleclair7133
    @rayleclair7133 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi I just would like to know if you can use a BMS just to balance the battery using just the C- for charge and discharge instead of using both ports. I'm building a 48v battery 13 long and 12 wide now I don't know how many amps that will be but the balancer I've ordered will be 20 amps. I've had my ebike hook up to as high as 36 amps, 3 sets of batteries in my trailer, I was thinking of making my 48v lithium 14 cell instead of 13 and 10 wide or if i can get enough batteries to make it 12 wide. The extra 4.3 volts would be a sweat spot i think this should not hurt the bike. The lithiums I'm using are from old laptop batteries. If i do stay with the 13 cell 48v and 12 wide I have no idea on how many amps it will put out. Oh ya and one more thing how many milliamps does it take to make 1 amp, I could never figure that out

    Thanks for your help and support

    • @gwizz7804
      @gwizz7804 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would go with a 20s configuration. 20 cells in series will give you 60v at the low end and 84v at the high, 74v nominal (assuming you're 72v setup is derived of a 6s car battery system this would do nicely, also if you're using cells that have a 3.6v nominal range than the voltage will be spot on at 72v nominal). Assuming you use new cells of 2800mah you would need 29 cells in parallel but I would go with 30 to make it even. So 30 times 21 equals 600 cells. That's a massive pack though.
