Annie, I only use water. Retarder of any kind is thick and typically would not work in a spray form. The key is to use lots of paint, that way it doesn’t dry out. I don’t like additives in my paint.

Hi David, a beautiful piece. Just wondering what your colours were. While I am in wintering in Mexico, I try to paint while I am there. I am limited in the amount of paints and tools I can take with me, so I usually stick with some pretty basic colours. I would like to capture the azul ocean on the lovely island of Cozumel and would appreciate any insight you can give on colour selelctions. Thank you for sharing your beautiful piece with us.
Please let me know if you use an acrylic medium or retarder? ... the previously applied paint color appears to be wet as you easily run one color into another. Surely this is not just water!? I watch your videos and am enthralled. Overall application and effect is quite wonderful David.

So beautiful! Question - do you use a retarder or just the water mist spray to allow you to blend on the canvas and to make the “finger marks?
