Leasing on is a value add in certain circumstances however an owner operator needs to be wise in which carrier he or she will lease his equipment onto. For example you guys are charging 25% that’s a lot of money to take from
The hard working owner operator who is adding value to your carrier by generating revenue. The way fuel is even with a good discount program 25% of 10,000 is $2500 so if the truck generates 10k spends 2k on fuel and 2500 on your percentage that’s almost half of his money right there not to mention any other nickel and dime fees you may charge a smart owner operator will get with a carrier that takes no more then 12% with very minimal fees or create his own authority which is a small cost to pay in comparison to potentially $2500 a week.. that could possible be $130k a year in fees when DOT operating authority and insurance and compliance all cost no more then 8-14k a year that’s a drop on the bucket in comparison
