Sent mine to a custom maker for a full convex, ground swedge for batoning, and reduced top guard, then had a Grizzly Customs sheath made for it. Now its a fantastic blade! Ironically, I'm in AK and this is my to bowie knife for general purpose use. This paired with the TRC magnacut Polehiem makes it a fantastic combo for everything I can think of. In regard to mountain lion defense, I was also in that situation this part March when my buddy and I were stalked during a nighttime coyote hunt in MT. He came into the distressed rabbit call and got within 27 yards. Thought I was going to have to shoot it when it didnt respond to 2 warning shots. Thankfully he decided we were worth the trouble and slid away. I dont know if I would want to fight a big kitty with a knife, but having a knife in that situation would have been better than nothing.
For me very important is proper sheath to keep knife during hiking , running , intensive movement . To keep komfortable , no fall out and easy to extract.
Large knives like this are IMO primarily useful for self defense, a la the Scottish Dirk. Best employed on the offside hip, ready to draw and hold chest high, point down, edge away from arm. Optimum handle is large and hand filling, optimum blade length just short of the elbow when knife is held against the forearm, for me about 10-11 inches. My granddad had a dress dirk like that he brought from the old country. Oh yeah
Very nice knife, I've been looking at the Recon Tanto, OSS, and the Marauder for my first CS Fixed Blade, but after watching this I think I might just save up for the 3V Trail Master instead.
@mathewrculbertson I own several Cold Steel products. And I agree, I never go out into the wilds without my trailmaster. Started with the SK5 version years ago. Now I've upgraded to the 3V on many knives. Great video, keep it up.
I had to re-upload this video because of an error on TH-cam’s side. Thanks for the support of my channel.
Did you say Nacogdoches TX. You are in my neck of the woods.
@@daviddawson1718 yep
The San Mai Version is my favorite. The convex Grind of it is awesome
I've got the same 1and your 100%.
Great information! Great video!!
@@bigdawghb thank you!
For back cuts O1 and CPM3V are the best... Wonderful sharp edges ... San Mai III VG1 and Carbon V: false edges not sharpened

What's up with 90s corn bgm?
" How to kill your Neighbor" and more knife skills! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Seems like a nice kid
The Carbon V Trailmaster was thicker and superior. Notwithstanding the crossguard was too short.
@@Man_Cave they both should be 5/16.
@@mathewrculbertson They are towards the crossguard, but as you migrate towards the tip, the Carbon V version is thicker towards the clip.
@ gotcha ;)
@@mathewrculbertson It also came with a high-quality leather sheath which CS never supplied again for some strange reason.
Don't use the flat. Use the edge in a self defense scenario.
A mountain lion is one extremely fast predator. I would walk away...😢
There are 2 well documented cases of hunters defending and killing bears they were attacked by using the Buck 110 pocket/belt pouch knife
