Thank you for this - question: as a sports coach, which apps or processes would you suggest to give me the most efficient route of telestrating game film for both our teams' past games & upcoming opponents? Sound is not a priority one way or another
extra tip. i would make a red box on the green image that will match the obs streaming window. This will represent the window to draw in when you have stretched out the window capture.
High school teacher here. I’ve been wondering what kinds of video editing stuff I could do while we start the new year in distance learning. Thank you so much for another idea! I do a lot of drawing and writing on my white board and this could work well.
If you don't have an iPad (I don't), there are cheap Wacom and Huion graphics tablets (~£50 in the UK), and then you can use AutoDesk Sketchbook or GIMP/Krita to do the same thing without an iPad.
Hi @@dsample I am a textual content creator but I am slowly moving to graphical content like Infographic and cheatsheet for tech toosl. Can I make arrows markings and handwritten text to make these stuff more customized on these tablets and softwares you mentioned? Thanks in advance man!
Love this idea! To help you see what area of your fresco canvas will actually be displayed on screen, I'd add a 16:9 rectangle in a contrasting color (I.e. Red) to your fresco canvas and scale your window capture in OBS so that rectangle is just barely out of frame. This will act as a guide/boundary to draw within. Thanks, Norm!
This is an all in one video on basic controls and how to use OBS, annotation and chroma key! WAY better than all the other videos that teach a skill! 💯👍🏽
Awesome Norm, cheers! For anyone else trying to get this effect while video editing, say with something like a Wacom all you gotta do is screen record your drawing software (ie Photoshop) with a green background layer which you can then key out in your video editor.
Wow thx for showing us that, I was searching a better way than the traditional transparent board we use at university, really good alternative, since a lot of our teacher are working from home also.
I have a Windows 2-in-1 tablet laptop, and I (weirdly) had trouble finding an app for Win10 that could draw on a fullscreen image. The desktop version of Photoshop seems to not be very touch friendly, always scrolling with touches instead of painting. In the end, I just coded up a very quick, simple, and dirty HTML5 canvas implementation to run in a fullscreen browser, and that did the trick! Understanding where everything in the frame is relative to the blank green screen is pretty hard for me, though that's probably just my failure of spatial visualization 😂 Nice tip!
How can I do the same but editing a video? I’m a tennis teacher and I use to film my student and then I want to do a video explaining what is wrong marking the movement they make. Help me please.
Thanks for the video. I am using OBS for webinars and was trying to use a cam and pad but like your idea better. I have set up my ipad and connected to obs via a video screen capture so can see the scene element with ipad, loaded the A power mirror but lost here. You said you choose power mirror but this is where i got lost can you help as I have the ipad connected in scene but not sure how power mirror works between laptop and ipad? thanks
I would suggest, to help with drawing while looking into the camera, a simple DIY teleprompter project with some teleprompter glass, a wood (or pla if you have a 3d printer) frame, and a video monitor that's been set to horizontally mirror your computer's output. from there, you tell OBS to give you a monitor window and full screen it on the prompter video output. - this is also FANTASTIC for video calls because you can look at the other person's face on your prompter's monitor while looking into the camera behind it.
Excellent video! This is exactly the type of thing I've been looking for. Very useful indeed and I think I see how one might even put animations into a live stream with a similar process. It would be great to see more of these type of videos! I've enjoyed the channel for years another great video
Great clear vid. So it looks like you need to use OBS, Mirror software, Adobe Fresco, and Adobe Photoshop in order to do this? It's an awesome thing to do but I can't imagine working with such a complex process.
You dont need photoshop. That was just a green image, you can also download it online. Also you didnt that it involves a computer, camera and iPad. I wonder what would you use for same result .. or similar result?
Why would you use green instead of black to make it easier on your eyes while drawing like a traditional chalk board? The alpha channel shouldn’t pick up anything in background because it’s layered on the top and not a true genlock that would make floating objects like traditional green screen. If the video was piped into the iPad so you could allow viewing exactly where the drawings are going in relation to video, that would be the best. I’m going to try this with apples build in screen extension and see if it works.
Is there a way to see on your iPad, where exactly you are drawing? Something like displaying the actual video on the iPad and drawing instead of blindly drawing on green screen?
Hi! My ApowerMirror is mirroring my ipad onto my macbook perfectly, however ApowerMirror won't show up on the drop down menu for choosing the window I want to capture on OBS- does anypne know what the reason for this could be?
Just working with OBS for my streaming and I also included it into my online pen n paper we do via discord. There is a nice virtual webcam plugin for OBS. And when I get my hands on a tablet I'll definetly try this on our gaming group.
Thank you for showing this. I like the basic idea of this. I tried it on my Windows computer using paint OBS and it worked well. If I hooked my digitizing pad up, I would be able to easily annotate using an electronic pen. Or on my laptop screen that is a touch screen. I played around with it and it worked well. I make my green area the exact size of how I have that app shared in my OBS scene so I knew exactly where my boundaries were and I could still get at the controls to change color, pen, draw shape, etc.
Thanks for the video, I would need some help. I have a simple Wacom device without a screen and need to draw in MS Paint (or some other Windows app). Is it possible to use your way to annotate video, which I need to pause? The problem is that once I start drawing in MS Paint, OBS gets inactive and I am not able to pause the video without alt-tabbing.
Good video, might have to try an adjusted version with my hardware switcher. But it is amuse me how you kept mentioning free software.... then used Photoshop to just turn the background green 😜. Maybe could have kept free and used GIMP, or can’t the Adobe sketch software change its paper colour?

how do i do a recording of live graph on another screen at the same time draw on it to do notes im trying to do video recordings of live moving graphs while recording it and putting notes beside the graphs of a website
This video is awesome thank you for making it! Can you do all of this and still do picture in picture with a pre-recorded video and be able to draw on it? And did you record this video in that software?
Awesome video! Two Questions. 1) Do you know of a way to use OBS the record drawing-on-screen WITHOUT it being live? Recording over a pre-existing video and saving the drawing portion as an alpha channel? 2) and secondly: how do you save (through OBS) an export of the drawing that was done on the video?
Assuming you're trying to do this all in a PC with something like a Wacom and not an iPad, the method is pretty similar - In Photoshop (or whatever drawing programming you're using) set your background layer to green, capture your screen with OBS or another screen capturing software, do your drawing, then in your video editor use a chroma key to remove the green background.
Any idea of how to add virtual pencil📝 to looks like your drive you back of you screen? PS: the pencil may appear(zoom in) when you actually touch the screen.
Bro, i tried it on mac with OBS and it went inverted lol. The green color was shown, but the white annotations were transparent, show my face on camera. Did I do something wrong?
What if I'm trying to draw on some form but have to be very precise in my placement? I have this setup but I ran into issues with trying to draw over items because my pen was off. Is there a way to capture the image you're trying to draw onto on the ipad?
Hey, is there a way to draw on an iphone no matter what app is being used on the iphone or even no app at all (draw on the home screen for example)? I'd like to draw on the iphone while showing my process of editing images on Snapseed (while I'm screen recording). Thanks!
