Watching Don Henley claim Hotel California is hilarious especially since he didn't write it, Don Felder did.
And he fired Don Felder. Ridiculous
Don Felder never claimed Hotel California
Felder made the chords, Henley and frey made the lyrics later
Felder & Walsh also composed one of the most epic guitar solos in rock music history. As I recall it starts at 4 minutes & 20 seconds into the original studio version and is a bit over two minutes long.
Henley may legally have full rights to the song, but the best parts, the chord progression and the epic outro solo, were all Don Felder and Felder & Walsh respectively. It’s sad that the truly notable creative forces behind the song have no say.

I am so grateful to see Rush on this one, especially Closer to the Heart. That is easily one of my favorite 12 String riffs of all time.

They're out there. For electrics, Danelectro makes some good ones for the price. Unfortunately, many others realized this and have been snatching the humbucker models up. Eastwood has some but I've yet to try one.
Hotel California will be forgotten if they will keep blocking it when it comes to a video :)

You needed The BYRDS! They are 12 string Riffs identified which everyone copied!!!
And I would have added -- "Eight Miles High" as well. McGwinn was a monster on the 12 strong. To leave his work unacknowledged is really insulting.
George Harrison Played a Rickenbacker 12 String, McGuinn saw what it was in the movie, A Hard Days Night and bought his soon after.

0:43 I used "Over The Hills" intro to test guitars back when I worked in a shop. I found that opening riff to be a good way to pick out playability issues. Even better, also I learned it upside-down. Being left-handed and most customers being righties, I'd throw them for a loop when I'd demo my work to them by flipping their own guitar over and laying into it. =^-^=

When you realize that you were listening to the video on the Bluetooth speaker in the library while your headsets were on, and then you realize that it wasn’t at a low volume inside your headsets... it was blaring outside.

Mysterious Ways by U2, it's a very little known fact that the riff was actually played on a 12 string Rickenbacker with a lot of distortion. The Edge also changed the fourth string to a bottom end string for extra girt.
Thanks for sharing that! I'm on a quest to find out about alternative guitar stringing because I'm convinced David Gilmore did the same as edge dude for Floyd's "Wish You Were Here."

2) I did not realize many of those songs featured a 12 string - very nice.
3) Your guitar is so unique and badass... worth owning just for that headstock wow that is cool.
" Mr. Tambourine Man " by the Byrds is what really brought the 12 string to the forefront. Good choice of songs, however I think we all can agree some were left out, that should have been there instead of a couple of them. " Closer to the Heart was played a little to fast. However, one can never go wrong playing one of Alex's guitar riffs, unless you just plain suck !!
I would say the Seekers with their intros on 12 string may have been ahead of the Byrds..The New Christy Minstrels were big on the 12 string also.

The reality is the 12 string really took off when Jimmy played Stairway! Let's be honest how many bought a 12 string just to play that middle riff!
@@markhill9275 It took off only in Rock music after Jimmy used it. Then the Like of Alex Lifeson took it to another level. However it was well used before Jimmy even thought about playing one. So let's be honest, not many people went out and bought one after Jimmy. The sales data doesn't support that. !

Roger Hodgson from Supertramp has written a lot of great 12 string guitar riffs and songs. Give a Little Bit and Even in the Quietest Moments are two *great* examples!
Oh yeah. How could a top twelve string guitar list not include anything by Supertramp? Unless it's a copyright thing and he already dunked on the Eagles for that reason.

I’m so glad this is up again, I’m not sure if this was the case, but for some reason when I tried searching for this video I could never find it, so I just assumed it was taken down, most likely for copyright claims. Nevertheless, I enjoy this video very much.

It’s a good idea, and it would probably help, but I get the feeling that with Hotel California specifically you’re orobably screwed anyway. Since it’s their number one song, and he probably wanted to play it properly, not just strum it or something.

I noticed that this particular video doesn't go on and on for once, and be over 15 minutes. Straight to the point, and showcases 12 awesome riffs. Another video can be more of a discussion of sorts, and gives more info of what makes the riff sound good or even just the 12 string guitar.

First person I think of is Roger McGuinn of the Byrds..
I enjoyed that. You have to love a great 12 string riff. Rick Beato often mentions the Eagles as being rabid TH-cam blockers, and he says it is usually not the bands, but the record companies that do the blocking. He showed some figures once, that demonstrated an upsurge in sales for a song after he'd featured it, so the record companies are kind of shooting themselves in the foot.

I've only played a 12-string a few times. Each time, the guy had the lower-pitch string over the higher-pitch. I just googled how to do it and it's meant to be the other way - as in this video!!!! Mind blown.
Don Henley and Glenn Frey made careers off the backs of far more talented and creative musicians, but postured themselves to be the big dogs of the Eagles.
I somewhat disagree. Henley was a jerk, but Don and Glenn did most of the song writing. The rest of the guys were great, just were in the shadows a bit because of that.
Stephen Dwyer look at a lot of their seminal moments as a band and who was behind those songs.
I didn't realize I loved 12-strings so much until I realized nearly every one of my favorite guitar riffs are in this video.
Not actually famous as a 12-string riff, but everytime I hear upper octave harmony whether it's from an actual 12 string or effect pedal like whammy I always think about Radiohead's My Iron Lung
Would be interesting to hear what Jonny Greenwood could do with a 12 string guitar but he already has one guitar. Why would he need another?

According to those who have written much about the Beatles in the studio, there is no mention of a twelve string in Ticket To Ride. In fact, most say it is Paul playing that particular lick on an Epiphone Casino.

@@Lucashjohnsen It is a 12-String, you can clearly hear the harmonic string when James plays the verse. Also Nothing Else Matters should have been on here, since it contains a 12-String in the intro riff (not entirely, but part of it).
Oh and - awesome 12 string playing. So few can, including myself, that it's nice to hear some one who can get a clear tone out of all of the strings.
