Harder to work with, more expensive, shorter hours, harder to get good performances... And the ones that you do end up having to get better have a damn good reason to be there. They established there's kids, as extras in the classroom scene. It shouldn't really be a huge suspension of disbelief to believe there continue to be kids, just "off camera." If they lack speaking roles it makes little sense to continue to hire extras extensively through the series.
Deleting the children out of the narrative is a meta joke

Her only experience with what shooting is supposed to be like is from pre-war films, likely westerns and military propaganda. I don't understand why Lucy received backlash from some people in the Fallout community. She's a petty dynamic character. She's intelligent, humorous in a dorky way, though her quips never outstayed their welcome. She can handle herself but isn't too overpowered and is still vulnerable, so it's not like she's a 'Mary Sue'. And her naivety is a nice contrast to the other characters and is perfect for someone exploring the wasteland for the first time. That's probably why I really enjoyed watching her journey, seeing how she adapted to the wasteland while still maintaining the empathy that defined her.
Some are just out to roleplay a battle against woke conspiracy. If they don't see woke everywhere then they'll stop feeling persecuted.
Because they don't want women in leading roles or capable roles. Even though women are quite literally just as capable as men... Like in a post-apocalypse, gender differences doesn't really matter. If you can hold a tool, you go to work.

I'm sure they are more lacking in materials so stripping a bolt by using a pipe wrench would be worse than waiting a minute until the other lady is done.
