    I'm positive that Spiderman is a self insert of Stan Lee and the fact he made an anime where he's an evil God is just so funny. I love Stan Lee.

      Stan Lee always seemed to have such a positive view of life. You can view so many interviews where he pokes fun of himself and doesn't treat himself too seriously. I miss him too, my friend!

    Curious if there's any plans for Ultimo to be adapted into an anime series. And for that matter how available the manga itself is to find in the wild. Definitely curious to check it out.

      Good question! The series has mixed reviews, so I'm unsure of its actual value. Although I can say it was probably one of the strangest collaborations in manga history. I think it should be available in certain libraries and book stores (although it may require extensive searching because it is fading into obscurity).

    One thing I really liked about Ultimo was that every new character we meet we get to see their age. In turn we ends learning odd stuff, like the MC mother having him at the age of 16.

      Yeah, he also co-authored a comic book featuring the Backstreet Boys as superheros. Stan Lee was full of surprises!

    Interesting, Although in the 1960's Marvel Comics the characters were just about always created as the results of a creative collaboration,
    For instance in the Fantastic Four, The Silver Surfer and Galactus were created when Stan Lee had told artist and Fantastic Four co-creator Jack Kirby "Have them fight God,"
    and both men crafted 'The Galactus Trilogy' in Fantastic Four #48-50 as a result and the rest is history.

    • @cultural_studies
      @cultural_studies  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That's a good point, Stan Lee wouldn't be anything without the likes of Jack Kirby and the various other co-creators

    Ultimo is a series that I have only experienced tangentially, through the impressions of others. My takeaway is that the story is far from groundbreaking, but perfectly encapsulates the Stan Lee spirit of just throwing characters with larger than life powers into a world and watching them build it themselves. It says a lot that Stan's representative character created robots for the purpose of staging an ultimate battle of good versus evil, but that the better way to have done this was to go back to start and let the characters decide for themselves how to act things out.
    It's very small, but I do genuinely think that Ultimo does deserve to be remembered if only as a small encapsulation of Mr. Lee's love for the ludicrous and epic, and the unyielding spirit his optimism in storytelling.

    • @cultural_studies
      @cultural_studies  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well said! I think the world remembers Stan Lee for one particular aspect: His contribution towards the creation of classic Marvel characters, especially Spider-Man. And yet, Stan Lee collaborated on so many other projects and creations that have since become quite obscure and under-represented. While his storytelling formula is evident in all this, (including Ultimo) I agree with you that Stan Lee had a spirit of optimism that he wanted to convey to the world. I think he intentionally used his unique storytelling abilities (whether in manga or comic book form) to convey the notion that anyone can be that superhero that we look up to. It isn't something far from us, it can be reached in each of us. That seemed to be Stan's viewpoint and underlying philosophy, anyway.

      @cultural_studies  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      We're sorry about that! We'll put some of your corrections in the description. My intention when writing the script was to convey Shōnen Jump's obscurity in the American market, and I (as a North American) assume things based on that place, since that's where I'm from. Apologies on my ignorance of the Japanese market, It should be noted that SJ is still circulating to this day. Good observation, though! Like I said, we'll credit you in the description above
