This works for Hermes because they are bags of exceptional quality n workmanship. That is not the same for coated canvas of LV or even where Chanel is right now.

I don’t agree with them putting the neverfull on a waitlist but that bag has lasted me years, without needing repairs. And to me that shows the quality. Been through international trips been through road trips she has been rocking with me and I don’t know if I’ll ever get rid of my neverfull because it’s such a good travel bag. But I don’t think that they should be putting it on the waitlist its not that serious.

@@A5jer I like mine MC MM size. Bought mine during Covid on line when the shops were closed probably around 1.2 k or a bit more. It holds a bunch when I need it to and it’s so durable… wish the straps were a bit longer, but it works.

My theory- Waitlists are usually used when manufacturers don’t know how many will be required to produce - think pre-orders. I tend to think that the reason for this for the LV Neverfull is that they aren’t getting the sales for these anymore. And because they use a date codes, I would say they’ve had stockpiles from over-manufacturing in previous years and this is a way to curb waste/costs. If so, it makes sense.
They will only make a certain amount of limited edition bags so it also makes sense that they’ll send to stores to have in stock..

What comes to my mind is also the increase in fake items going around when this becomes reality. I dont know if thats the best move to make the brand more exclusive but I guess they want it that way and we have to wait and see what happens.

Hi, former LV CA here… based on what we could make commission on, I’m fairly certain LV hates selling canvas. We would earn .1% on canvas and it would ruin our type of sale percentages, which could actually lead to being terminated. When I worked there that meant $1.80 commission on a canvas neverful. We were paid much more generously on every other category. So following the math, LV financially incentivizes associates to sell the product that LV wants to sell and penalizes them for selling the bread and butter. Like one person I worked with said, they might as well have a vending machine out front for neverfuls 🤣😂 (god forbid you sold a canvas wallet by itself)
I really like the Neverful style because it’s so simple and easy to use. However, I purchased the Coach City Tote and it is the same size with longer straps that I need. I’m super happy with it and it meets the need for a basic tote at a fraction of the price. This move by LV may backfire or weed out buyers with smaller budgets. That could be their goal.
Either way it seems like the shopping mood is changing and people aren’t as moved or enamored with luxury brands and the prestige they create. Quiet luxury is having a moment and a turn towards quality products at reasonable (even if still pricey) prices.
So we’ll see how it goes. I know you’ll keep us updated 🎉❤
I know the neverfull is a popular tote, but I don't know if there are enough people who want to spend 2k on it in the first place, let alone go on a wait list. By the time it comes in stock you could have saved more for a better piece or change your mind about it

Yes, and it did not come with the pouch. I just attached mine inside. My gm was $900 out the 🚪(2009). My mm $2300 in 1854 denim.(2021?)

Making one of the most “counterfitted”bags more exclusive makes 0 sense. More people will just buy fake or second hand. I’m not a lover or a hater but I find it hard to believe that someone would wait that long for a bag so common. Surely they would be better doing this with their more expensive and unique bags to create more exclusivity.

Well then, I am glad I purchased a monogram Neverfull GM in January off the website with absolutely no problem. I wish it were not made in the US, however it appears to be flawless, unlike my new Keepall 55 from the US with quite a few flaws.
I live in Michigan and I see more Never Fulls more than any other luxury bag. I feel like it’s the luxury intro gateway bag for the masses. I have a vintage I rarely carry. But I did pull out my Azur vintage Hampstead out for spring summer. I like it as I don’t see anyone else around here carrying one.
Glad I snatched one up last year, I don’t play these waiting games

I kind of feel like brands are unintentionally pushing people to go the super fake route bc it is more accessible and SOMETIMES the quality is better. Brands are increasing prices but not increasing the quality and making bags harder to get. I’ve never received my notifications of availability, I would just so happen to be on the site at 3am and see that something is available 😒

@Cassie Thorpe I will offer my view as someone who works in a global company: they want to free up manufacturing capacity to make more (higher profit) bags. The NF is a huge volume driver but it is probably eating up capacity and delivering lower margins at the same time. And - we know LVMH love their profit.
Not even just large cities... I see about 10 LV Neverfulls walking into my critical access hospital in rural Kentucky on the daily.
I do not own a never full LV. I have a leather bag similar to that which I have over 30 years. It does it's job well & still look new. I don't hate the never full bag. Just never saw the need to get one. Thanks for this info Cassie. Blessings.👏👏💞💞💞.

Its so surprising. They literally had an endless supply online and in stores earlier this year, all prints, all interior colors.
I think no one is really buying them at these prices anymore like they used to. I think they are both trying to make it more exclusive and trying to avoid having a bunch of overstock like they did before
I'm surprised as well, I've heard no news of it and to be honest if they would create wait list for bags it wouldn't be for such an entry to the brand kind of bag but more like a capucines. Does anyone has any proof of this "news"?
Whenever I’m at the airport I play a game where I count all the neverfull’s I come across- it’s always more than 20.

That’s cause it’s a great bag for travelling! Don’t see too many Neverfulls at Toronto 🇨🇦airport. Quite a variety of designer bags being used here.

@@Bestlifemiddleage hi, Goyard does do repairs, but from £250. They can replace handles and patch with leather corners on St Louis. They look even better after that. I cant stand LV print anymore as it is to common much prefer Goyard, but suddenly got also popular. See it every time when I’m in London. I’m eyeing now mini Anju in white for Summer. They are super cute!

I just got a GM mono and was eyeballing purchasing an MM azure. Several times last week, I was window-shopping online and then suddenly Friday morning, online had zero stock. They had stock Thursday bc I added the bag to my cart. Friday GONE. I knew something was up bc everything was out of stock, not just the one I was considering. I'm not devastated though, just annoyed by continued luxury brand shenanigans. I had gotten the one I wanted to replace an old one. It's a workhorse tote and I love that it lasts years bc I'm hard on them.

This isn’t a new thing tho, when I worked there they always did similar things so the main reason this is probably happened is because with the amount of new products coming through, they have to pull products from the store floor to make room - they take up SO much room in the store as we would have SO many. We use to joke that the Neverfull would sell even if we hung it off the ceiling 😂 If you want it, you’ll get it they just don’t need to advertise it plus it’s what’s called an Icon bag so it will never discontinue, it was the quickest bag to ever go Icon status at LV! 😊
I would still buy anything LV or whatever, over Hermes!!

I think this is a good idea from a business perspective. As a consumer, this need for businesses to make their items harder to get is extremely infuriating. But I do believe it's what helps maintain the value of the bag. Nothing is worse than paying full price and then seeing it go into the sale or go "out of style" because too many people have it. So businesses doing this helps maintain the value of the item which I can appreciate if I've already bought it. Therefore, people might not understand the point of LV doing this now, but in the far out future I think it will pay dividends to help change the image of the Neverfull.

I adore my Neverfull in damier azur with the ballerina pink lining. I purchased it in February '21 and my word, it was a search, hunt, and borderline FIGHT to get this bag! I eventually got it at the Design District Louis Vuitton in Miami. IDK if it's like this for all iterations of this bag, but mine was a challenge procuring!
Yes!!!! ❤ yes it’s coated canvas but it is pretty durable! I bang that bag all over well my Ebene MM, at volleyball, the park, the zoo accidentally put a crease in it and it still managed to relax the crease out and still looks very nice! ❤
@Comoelita Melendez Oh-KAY! So you get it! My son was three months old when I bought my Neverfull and it doubled as my baby bag! I needed a work horse. A bag that could survive a baby who is now a toddler, and you know what....she hasn't let me down! She's a durable girl who is faithful through and through!
I initially went to Christian Louboutin to buy their Cabata tote in nude because it's all leather, but, it was sold out! So I walked over to Louis Vuitton, and they had my Neverfull. It was meant to be!
I think it has a lot more to do with the fact that....there's been too many defects/issues --> and returns going on. And to avoid getting stock returned all the time, they are going to force us in to taking whatever we get. If you don't take the bag you are offered, back to the bottom of the list you go.
A minimum spend on a neverful is so crazy to imagine. A wait list is something they should’ve done for the capucines. People should just move on to getting the Goyard tote instead
Interesting talk Ms. Cassie. Neverfulls didn’t appeal as an entry level designer bag. Believe it or not, I went with the MCM shopper. It was like $600 and is super useful as a tote bag and very comparable to the Neverfull. It was a DC thing back in the day but I ❤ my bag and will have it always. Good information to know about LV and their new marketing strategies.

I have the Gucci canvas tote and I love it. . It’s called the Ophedia Medium tote and the quality is amazing. I’m so glad I skipped the Neverfull for this.

I think it is a bit late for them to make the Neverfull "exclusive" and it would then have the same effect Birkins, Kellys, or classic flaps have. It doesn't make any sense. I read that one of the manufacturing plants was shut down for some reason (it will be back up soon) so that is why they took them off of the websites first. I don't think anyone has walked into a store and been told no for a Neverfull yet. I think we are jumping to huge conclusions very quickly.

I never had never full but I own YSL tote and it’s absolutely indestructible. I’ve dragged bottles of water + weekly shopping in it and it’s like new after many years . I also ‘killed ‘ gucci GG plus tote I had for 10+ years … both are great alternatives IMO

It is no longer available for purchase on the US website. It says unavailable. In my opinion, this is ridiculous. I bet, they will revamp the Neverfull and release the new version with a much higher price point.
All the heritage brands are trying this 'exclusive' bag thing with their over saturated bags. I honestly have seen more real/fake classic flaps than any other bags lately.
For me, the price increase was TOTALLY ridiculous, comparing e.g. to YSL - where they also offering us a shopper bag in a slightly better price, even after price increase. I know there is a lot of fake bags and a lot of bootlegs from LV, but this move will only make the Neverfull more basic and no more interesting. What is worth to mention, also the quality is just getting lower and lower :( the best quality of NF I think was around 2015-2017.
That’s why I started to be interested in Demellier, Polene or another brand that is cheaper, classy and the quality is better.
Louis Vuitton has also another great model to consider buy - Lockme Tote. Less flashy, more classy and I think quality is slightly better than NF.

This doesn’t surprise me. I don’t even want any of the newest monogram canvas items anymore. They’re made in the US and they are so poorly made. I purchased a keepall a couple of years ago, didn’t use it much, but the zipper kept sticking so they offered to replace the bag. I had no idea that bag was no longer made in France (in the US anyway) and they kept ordering bags for me with crinkled vachetta leather trying to convince me it’s normal (it’s not). I finally gave up and bought a preloved keepall which is something I never thought I’d do but guess what? It’s from 2003 and the leather isn’t crinkled. Go figure.
I feel like they should have tried this with a capucines first instead of a "cheaper" bag. Besides the on the go is so similar that people could just turn to that bag.
I have 4 NF ( the pm is the best ) .. they’re great work bags . I recently spotted a fake at a lux reseller and reported it , but the employees were shocked it was not authentic! I feel like they’re getting too good at reps and maybe they’re planning on changing it some or discontinuing it for something else soon .
I wonder if it’s to slow down the resale market by encouraging the sale of personalized bags? It’s a bold move for sure, and might just free up space for a new queen of the totes to emerge!!

The Never Full is often bought by suburban husbands for their wives, as a holiday, anniversary, birthday gift. I am not mocking or judging people who live in the suburbs. But suburban husbands, and I have been one, tend to wait until the last minute to buy these gifts. The husbands just want to run into the store, and buy the bag.

The Neverfull is one of my favourite bags. I have the MM in the Damier Ebene with the red interior and had been thinking about buying one in the monogram as well. Of course I listened to my husband who asked why I would need another one so I didn’t buy it. Now I’m peeved!!! Why didn’t I just get it when it was available?
I have one in the emprente leather, and love it. It’s a bag that’s over saturated the market for a long time, maybe it’s best to curtail production a bit.
I don’t hate the neverful they just need new patterns and versions it’s a little boring 💕

Oh my!!! Some of what these luxury brands are doing now that people are tighter and tighter with money is absolutely ridiculous!!! As much as I love LV it is so overpriced...Now more than ever. It is classic,. but quality wise it can't even compete with Gucci anymore 🤨Truly this is what they need to work on, not more ridiculous concepts.
Dilemma-I’ve been thinking of seeking my GM NF. Don’t get me wrong I LOVE the NF but I’m an MM girl. I have 2 of those and only reach for the gm maybe once a year. I’m really wanting a Marc Jacobs Tote. We won’t be tacky and talk about how much I paid for it. It’s just such an amazing workhorse of a bag.

I don't quite understand the love for the neverfull. I have never been drawn to it, so clearly I'm missing something. 🤷♀️ If a tote was a necessity for me maybe I would understand the love.

The only brand which succeeds in playing games is Hermes. I have been able to get anything I want from Chanel or LV. In fact since the price increases..this is the first time I’m seeing the WOCs and the bags in stores ..easily available in Chanel.

Your prediction of possible future buying options. I hope that it does not catch on. Exclusivity only works in limited quantities not across the board. A quick way to get rid of customers is “stupid exclusivity” meaning all the games being played by Hermès and Chanel. Telling me I can only get something if I do ABC is a sure way to send me to do business with someone else. Especially if the quality is meh 😊
I think this supports LVs push to get clients to choose leather and spend more money on a bag. I’m indifferent about the Neverfull. Also I don’t like LVs waitlist policy because you pay in full and then wait however long for your item.

I think this is a bad move. I sold my neverfulls but it's a bag everyone loves and was still at an ok price.
