I was there. This was before London Calling came out, at least in the US, so Jimmy Jazz was kind of confusing. Then, when they kicked into Bored with the USA, the energy level really went up in the place. Undertones and Bo Diddley opened. Fun times.
This was the VERY FIRST TIME The Clash played in Chicago. Sadly, I didn't see the concert, but they did broadcast it on WXRT, so I got to hear it. Thanks for posting, and sharing.
WXRT`played this a lot over the years but the sound sucked which is unusual because all thier live were great check out Te Jam and the Talking Heads at the Park West Chicago This new new mix is great Thanks 4 putting it up seen a lot of shows at the scarereagon bralllroom qnd the sound always suckes
I was there too - and boy did the sound suck! Most of the time I wasn't even aware of what song it was until halfway through. But that bad sound didn't stop me from becoming a total Clash maniac.

First off, they left out a "D" in Bo Diddley on the poster. Sound system sucked, Feargal Sharkey got pissed, and then North Side Punks started spitting at him. Undertones walk off stage without playing their big hit, Teenage Kicks. Thank you, Chicago. BO DIDDLEY starts playing, and his amp craps out in the middle of the set...Aragon Guys scurry around, sort things out... BO DIDDLEY wraps up set. Clash walk onstage, clothed & coiffed like Broadway dancers from the 1961 film version of West Side Story. Mush-Mouth cockily asks if Chicago's the Home of the Blues. Then the boys kick off with a sad, pale imitation reggae rendition of Julie & the Drug Squad. I WAS THERE...WORST SHOW EVER!!!
