This is the guide is incredible. You really cover it so well. Learnt way more than I expected and I'm so glad I no longer have to watch my structures fly off into space because they were caught in a suspension glitch.

This was really helpful! All of the other tutorials just tell/show how to make it, and rarely ever go into why one would want to build it that way. From now on this is the video I will share when my friends ask me about ( _double wishbone_ ) suspension in Scrap Mechanic. Once again, thank you so much!
This suspension system works amazingly in Creative, but when I replicated it in Survival, the vehicle fell into a heap, like a horse with no bones. I tried making adjustments, but nothing seemed to work. It's like the physics in Survival are completely different from that in Creative.
Okay, that explains a lot. I was keeping myself awake thinking I was doing something wrong. Really appreciate the information. Hopefully Axolot fixes that in the future.
@@MV1890HHT I had the same problem, and connected 2 more of the bearings from the main wishbones to the controller to give it some strength. not a good suspension really but it made it drivable.

Suspension glitch might explain why my wishbone suspensions never work right. Definitely going to try the l-shaped upper wishbone for higher speed cornering!
WHAT THE- I was literally thinking about making a suspension like this, where you can change ride height, and placing the shock absorber (suspension) near the wheel, and putting it on two bearings, like the way it is IRL!! Like, the car in my head was literally the same you created in this video (Only that my vehicle was unable to flip bc of the suspension glitch and it annoyed me). And I also use the same hotbar layout! What a coincidence...

Incredibly good tutorial, I can't wait to try it out myself. One question, do you know if any behavior has been changed/patched since this tutorial?
Thanks for the praise! As far as I know there weren't any big changes since I made this video. The only thing to keep in mind is that this suspension will most likely work badly in the survival mode as all the bearings in that gamemode are very weak, dislocate easily and flop around even with the smallest force applied.
@@Pauglin Yeah I just tried it in survival, it was a disaster haha! I don't think anything big has been changed or updated since this video though. It looked like it would have worked with better bearings - like you said. It's probably possible to tweak it so it works in survival but I decided to just go with a different design
I can make such complex suspension in other games, but in scrap mechanic it's just wierd because of the suspension glitch. Survival mode should also have the same physics, but sadly it doesnt

So I did the car and all, but when it was finally ready after 2 hours of gathering resources the car just doesn't work, the wheels don't have any grip, the cars torso is touching the ground and even the wheels are in a 90 degree angle. Everything is just broken I need help! Please anyone? But great tutorial overall!
Whatever you do don't build this in the survival mode. Some people can have double wishbone suspension in survival mode but for other people (including me) the bearings are too floppy and the suspension doesn't work. And the unecesary complexity is another unfortunate thing that is not worth it
Unfortunately maybe it's my modded pieces that made this not work, but when I tried this out the suspension flipped out and started rocking after I took it off the lift. Great tutorial tho!

very good suspension, although it has a issue with weight handling I put a bar going from either side to stop the camber that was happening when weight was added to it
Brilliant tutorial and looks really good. Unfortunately even though I followed this I'm still getting the floppy suspension glitch, was hoping following this idea would help somehow. Problems started last week when we made 2 vehicles and there was no problems but then one day both vehicles were sat on the floor with the suspension spread out and wobbling around. Unfortunately I can't find any solution to fixing this.
I don't exactly know what do you mean but there are 2 things I can think of that might be the problem: First is that you are playing the survival mode. Bearings in the survival mode are much weaker and flop around making it basically impossible to create complex suspension especially for heavier cars. The second one is that you might be using the "offroad suspension" piece for the springs. Unlike "sport suspension" the offroad one tends to become weird if you extend it too much or pull on it. Sport suspension doesn't have this issue and that's why I tell beginners to only use that one. I hope this helped you
@@Pauglin Yes it is only in Survival mode its happening. The 2 vehicles that were built one was a truck with off road suspension and the other was a light weight basic car with sports suspension. Whats strange is that both vehicles were OK for 2 weeks and then a few days back when we started the game up both cars were bottomed out with the wheels and suspension spread out like someone doing the splits and shacking at the same time. Tried different things to sort it out, made sure all welds are done and even stripped the vehicles down and rebuilt the suspension in different ways with upgrades and down grades and nothing seems to cure the problem. Unfortunately we can no longer make a vehicle in survival mode, very strange.
@@Pauglin thx for the reply Pauglin, obviously it's some kind of glitch that the devs need to sort out. If I ever find the route of the problem or a work around I will let you know. As for now I will use your advice and remove the suspension.
I have an issue with this. I built it exactly as you did, but my rear wheels canter so far out to the point where my body drags on the ground. They roll over and I'm not exactly sure why? It's the rear wheels when I'm moving in either forward or backwards, so my front wheels do the same if i'm driving backwards and vice versa. any ideas? I might not have understood what you meant by "removing suspension glitch" because all I did was rebuild the double wishbone the way you had it and welded it properly. I'm not sure if there was something I missed?
@@Pauglin I realize that you had connected several bearings to controllers... I did this and was able to get it to drive better but its still a bit wonky. Are you connecting every single bearing that doesnt need to turn to a controller?

Key word: "sometimes" The thing is that when you pull on offroad suspension it stretches out more than it should and starts shaking from side to side. The stiffness also gets super weird when that happens. And it happens a lot in double wishbone suspension and I've seen countless people having that exact problem. That's why I mentioned it. Basically you want the force pulling on the offroad suspension to be really small or have something that limits the arms from going further down to stop that issue.
you can look it up on youtube. "macpherson strut" is a suspension type for cars that has just one arm. Similarly, older trophy trucks used to have "I beam" suspension. Look it up, there are many great animations on youtube. Basically, the two wishbones just keep the wheel straight and that's the entire point
Sorry for my late response I didn't notice the comment. Unfortunately there is probably no way to solve this cuz the survival mode has really floppy bearings and that is the reason why that happens. Tho putting the wishbones further apart (for example the upper wishbone a block higher) should help but it won't entirely fix it
I tried about 1 hour to build this suspension 8:58, but I gave up, it makes me feel dumb because it looks simple but I can't get the top of the spring to connect to the elbow, asking you was the last option. Could you please tell me how you did it?.
I don't exactly understand what are you trying to do but try putting it on a lift and building it on the lift. Also check if everything is welded with the weld tool

hi, very good tutorial, but i have a problem doing it. My wheels stay diagonally, they don't stay 100% straight as they should be. What could be failing?

I plan on making more videos for sure. I will be doing a series where you will see some more of my builds. I also plan on making more suspension tutorials (and maybe some other mechanical things if something comes to my mind) But I probably won't make any survival related content because the mode feels to grindy for me and I really don't enjoy the grind. Also I might make some time lapses of me building stuff. And I also don't suggest building complex suspension for survival creations as the bearings in survival mode are kinda floppy and the suspension likes to collapse.
I will probably come back to survival once there will be the ability to spawn things from the lift. I would like to prototype my stuff in creative first and then just spawn it in survival. I find it hard to build something in survival when there is the day/night cycle, hunger, farm raids, limited resources etc.

Thumbs up cause its a good tutorial but honestly you go way too fast through some things. I have a bug somewhere in mine, not sure where. It doesn't work well at all. I almost thumbs it down cause its super hard to try to catch w/e I'm not doing and compare step by step. Also showing the normal one, then doing the non suspension glitch version, had to rebuild, dunno where my mistake is because its so little attention to whatever detail I missed. No clue what it is.
Does this work for you in survival? I build the basic version in Creative and it works properly. The same suspension build in Survival makes the wheel rotate (while it should stay upright) and when doing harsh corners the wheel rotates under the car.
The bearings in survival are weaker and floppy. You can make it work better by moving the wishbones further apart. By that I mean for example putting the upper wishbone one block higher. The wheel will then have less leverage on the suspension mechanism and it will be stronger.
Hm, thank you. Already build the bones with a spacing of 1. Currently I'm running a single bone suspension with a length of 4 and and the suspension at the outer end. Works as intended and is stable, though the problem of the rotating wheel. Might give a 1 to 1 build of your suspensions a try. Feels like the most time in the game I spent building and testing suspensions.
I don't get it, was something patched? Every time I do this the top of the spri gs go ape shit side to side and separate from upper elbow which then points up to the sky
unfortunately not really. You could try to move the wishbones further apart to change the leverage on the bearings but that doesn't really solve the issue.
@@Pauglin so I actually experimented a bit and got it to work had to leash the bearings controlling the tires tilt to the controller it stops tired from over tilting and messing up and let's me camber the wheels :)
Lol not at all. When I started playing scrap mechanic I was mainly building cars and then I started to be interested in building and tuning suspension in the game. From that I became interested in cars in real life too. I'm just a high school boi not sure what I want to do in life. Same as the others. But as of right now the only thing I can do with cars is change the spark plug lol. Don't even have the licence yet. And my physics knowledge isn't that good either.
And I don't even plan on buying a car right now... I would like to get a house before I start spending money on automotive stuff. My biggest dream is having an offroad track where I can drive utvs, atvs and homemade buggies. Cuz it's not a possibility just to go and drive an utv into the woods somewhere here. You would get into lot of legal troubles for that.
I'm having the same issue in survival...it seems to work in creative for some reason. In survival I get negative camber (tire tops leaned in) and like I said it works in creative just as shown...

No, the suspension glitch is all about how you connect the suspension piece itself

yeah a transport truck (i assume one for the use of crates?) usally is built with no suspension

Look at the bearing placement around the springs. That has changed

See, everytime I build this, my front wheels flare outwards... I don't understand.. I literally follow the build to a T.

after this tutorial it is super ez tysm, also the removing part is not nessesary if you do 4 wheeled steering

Thumbs up cause its a good tutorial but honestly you go way too fast through some things. I have a bug somewhere in mine, not sure where. It doesn't work well at all. I almost thumbs it down cause its super hard to try to catch w/e I'm not doing and compare step by step. Also showing the normal one, then doing the non suspension glitch version, had to rebuild, dunno where my mistake is because its so little attention to whatever detail I missed. No clue what it is.
Does this work for you in survival? I build the basic version in Creative and it works properly. The same suspension build in Survival makes the wheel rotate (while it should stay upright) and when doing harsh corners the wheel rotates under the car.
The bearings in survival are weaker and floppy.
You can make it work better by moving the wishbones further apart. By that I mean for example putting the upper wishbone one block higher. The wheel will then have less leverage on the suspension mechanism and it will be stronger.
Hm, thank you. Already build the bones with a spacing of 1. Currently I'm running a single bone suspension with a length of 4 and and the suspension at the outer end. Works as intended and is stable, though the problem of the rotating wheel.
Might give a 1 to 1 build of your suspensions a try. Feels like the most time in the game I spent building and testing suspensions.
My suspension probably won't be stable in survival too

I don't get it, was something patched? Every time I do this the top of the spri gs go ape shit side to side and separate from upper elbow which then points up to the sky
You are probably using the off-road suspension. Try to use the sport suspension instead

The actual suspension doesn't work for me it is as if they are solid blocks and not a shock/strut.
Check if you are not missing any bearings

Does this still work? Every time I take it off the lift the body of the vehicle just drops to the ground
Put it on a lift and check with your weld tool if everything is connected

unfortunately not really. You could try to move the wishbones further apart to change the leverage on the bearings but that doesn't really solve the issue.
out of curiousity, what makes this not work in survival?
@@mythman30 bearings have no strength and everything becomes floppy. (floppier beatings help the game run better so that's why they are like that)

Because the bearings in survival can't hold that much weight. It's basically like playing on a lower physics quality level in creative
For some odd reason it pancakes in survival but Works just fine in creative

In survival the bearings are very floppy and it's basically impossible to make it work well in that mode
@@Pauglin so I actually experimented a bit and got it to work had to leash the bearings controlling the tires tilt to the controller it stops tired from over tilting and messing up and let's me camber the wheels :)

Lol not at all. When I started playing scrap mechanic I was mainly building cars and then I started to be interested in building and tuning suspension in the game. From that I became interested in cars in real life too. I'm just a high school boi not sure what I want to do in life. Same as the others. But as of right now the only thing I can do with cars is change the spark plug lol. Don't even have the licence yet. And my physics knowledge isn't that good either.
And I don't even plan on buying a car right now... I would like to get a house before I start spending money on automotive stuff. My biggest dream is having an offroad track where I can drive utvs, atvs and homemade buggies. Cuz it's not a possibility just to go and drive an utv into the woods somewhere here. You would get into lot of legal troubles for that.

I'm having the same issue in survival...it seems to work in creative for some reason. In survival I get negative camber (tire tops leaned in) and like I said it works in creative just as shown...
