Not my usual type of watching subject... but it could be a bit of a catalyst for "looking closer" at things around us and appreciating design with fresh eyes.... or even... a makers eye 😁. Thanks for this tour of the Olivetti shop in Piazza San Marco. I've walked hundreds of times by this shop and always been puzzled by this place. I didn't know of the Carlo Scarpa's design either! Of Carlo Scarpa's I was only aware of the wooden bridge by the Biblioteca Querini, a rather peculiar bridge that some may say is unsafe as it has no bannisters (not sure if it's the correct word)
Thanks Alberto! I didn’t know that was a Scarpa bridge! I think on a bridge they’re called ‘railings’ from the handrail down to the deck, but I knew exactly what you meant, and I’m no expert on bridges! I was so pleased that the Negozio survived the recent flood - I checked with them before making the video, and they told me the pumps worked perfectly! 👍👍
Having just spent most of Christmas eve clearing the house up for the invasion of relatives, this was quite a tonic. I wish we'd known about it when we visited. Really enjoyable, thanks, Peter. (the relatives include our small grandchildren so actually it's lovely, but tiring all the same!).
That’s really nice place and a great introduction to it. Very good videography, too, considering you’re *just* a paying member of the public having to deal with other paying members of the public getting in the way of your shot.

Those Italians sure do walk funny at 6:42! 😂 Fancy old buildings do look pretty, but as you say, they do get a bit boring once you've seen them enough times! But there's something about 50s design that's just timeless, take the Eames Lounge chair for instance, 63 years later and it still looks modern! I think perhaps it's to do with the simplicity, everything is functional and pared back, no designs for design's sake!
Agree about the late 50s design - though the whole ‘21st century modern’ thing is a bit of a throwback to that aesthetic, so I wonder if it isn’t just the thing of the moment, and in a few years time we’ll be all about ‘70s brutalism?? Maybe not! 😂👍👍
I worked in an office years ago with a rather large breasted typist of about 25. A couple of guys came in one day and they were joshing her. One said "Ann's a Rolls Royce of a woman" and the other said "Yes, and she's got the headlights full on!" 🤣😂
