believe me, I was really struggling wether I should upload this low quality snippet or not.
PATENT OCHSNER once played at Swiss National TV DRS. must have been one of the youth programs, moderated by Hannes Hug ("ZeBra", "BaRock" or what was it called back then?), an intimate performance of their song "Scharlachrot", singer Büne Huber playing the harmonium. I was immediately hooked because at that time I just got into Tom Waits.
everybody else hated it. but not for long. "Bälpmoos" was the song suddenly everyone loved and soon "Scharlachrot" became one of the biggest hits Switzerland has ever seen/heard. In 1995 I was part of the World Scout Jamboree 1995 in the Netherlands and during the presentation of our troop, we played that song in the background and EVERY SWISS SCOUT just sang it. UNFORGETTABLE!
PATENT OCHSNER became really huge but personally, I stuck with their first album, "Schlachtplatte" from 1991, while "Fischer" (1993) was the one, that everybody suddenly seemed to love and sing . Scouts again... I have very fond memories of a Scout Camp in 1993 where their second album played a major role. and their song "Trybguet" (title track of their fifth studio album, released 2003) appears whenever there is a Dia-Show of our local Scouts. and only when I got included in one of these - while this song played - I felt truly accepted :)
I always wanted to upload this snippet of a Radio DRS 3 live broadcast but I really don't know when and where this was performed. really liked the NITS-cover but the quality is really too bad and there is one more thing that I'm bemoaning: when PATENT OCHSNER just were the newcomers of the Swiss scene, there was another live broadcast on DRS3 - not sure what the reason for this celebration was, maybe 30 years of Swiss Rock Music or something like that. the who-is-who of Swiss Rock Music was featured, I remember Polo Hofer and Vera Kaa and especially I remember those two being present, when Büne Huber was interviewed. they asked him about the harmonium-thing, the Tom-Waits-thing and Büne Huber just said, he feels honoured that people always talk about this link "because Tom Waits simply is THE MAN!"
I really wanted to include this short interview here but after years and years of searching I have to realize - this tape doesn't seem to exist anymore. too bad.
anyway. I may have lost touch with this band at a very early stage but I always remembered their singer being respectful to one of the artists I love the most. and "Schlachtplatte" really IS an outstanding album!

I would like to add something else, about another Swiss artist. he is called Ritchie (or something) and is (or was) the singer for PLÜSCH (orwas it SCREAM?). they were (or are?) pretty famous too but I really did not like their music. but once - during the ultra-hot summer of 2003 - I was working at a construction site in the middle of our Capital City. the view was covered but I recognized his voice. some young kids just talked to him and I just thought "oh no, now there's this dude again..." - but then I heard the way he was talking to his young fans and he was really kind and friendly with no arrogance or anything, just finding a few nice words to make everyones day better. so - even if I can't stand the music - I will be forever a fan of Ritchie and his PLÜSCH-band, because that guy seems to be a good one. I bow my head.
