Well, I'm sure they didn't intend to insult her or something, maybe it's something like "stop looking on the past and just move forward for better future". I know what Kaela feels, but actually it also happened to me IRL.
When I was working at restaurant, I was very shocked if my first boss got some problem with his wife's younger brother before finally got replaced by him. Seriously, I'm almost crying at that time because he was very kind to his employee, and in fact, my "new boss" is very different compared to him.
