No, it's just romanticizing someone else instead to make the story more interesting. It's the same thing with any historical Hollywood fare, they pump up the protagonist by cutting everyone else off at the knees, regardless of whether they deserve it or not. The black female NASA computer staff historical film Hidden Figures is a classic example - woefully inaccurate even to the autobiographical novel the film is based on, let alone the overall historical accounts of NASA and IBM which are both defamed up the wazoo to make the 3 protagonists look more interesting and underdog like.
omfg finally a film about a Henry VIII Wife and it's NOT Anne Boleyn! I may actually have to go see this one. I love C. Parr. Also: thank god for more accurate historical costuming
Alicia Vikander is one of the rare actresses who can make you feel every emotion with just a single look. When watching The Danish Girl you felt sadness and sometimes even joy from her. With Ex Machina you felt fear of what she might do next. Even with Tomb Raider, you felt her adrenaline which led to excitement. In Tulip Fever you questioned her every move and motive but somehow still wanted her to win..and on and on. Firebrand may just put her on that Oscar stage yet again!
Man, I had to pause it, look, and I STILL didn't believe it. I had to look up the cast..... I may try to find a bookie for the next Oscars, he's probably gonna win with this role
Frankly, I’m amazed there haven’t been more films about Katherin Parr. For me, she remains a figure of constant fascination. On one hand, she is the wife who survived and nearly swayed the king into reforming the church of England. And helped shape Elizabeth. On the other hand, she is the stepmother who betrayed the princess who she loved as a daughter for a man who by today’s standards would be regarded as a pedophile (though honestly that’s what he should’ve been considered even for his time).
Catherine was betrayed by her husband Thomas Seymour when he started hitting on the teenaged Elizabeth Tudor. Catherine found them embracing and had Elizabeth banished from Sudeley Castle. 🤔
That has always seemed so confusing - she was, by all accounts, a smart woman, how could she not see that at least something was off about Thomas Seymour?
@@renata8979 Catherine Parr and Thomas Seymour had planned to be married, but Henry VIII wanted to marry her himself and nobody said no to Henry in that regard. So after Henry died, Thomas and Catherine were free to wed. Thomas was one of the most charming scoundrels around and Catherine was a very human woman. It's more than likely that he fooled her into thinking that his early morning visits to Elizabeth's bedroom was all in good fun until a heavily pregnant Catherine later caught them together in an embrace. She then had Elizabeth removed from Sudeley Castle, where they were living at the time, and sent to live with Sir Anthony Denny at Cheshunt in Hertfordshire. Catherine and Elizabeth never saw each other again.🤔
@@BadFluffy a “20-year-old girl”??? Jude law used to be one of the most beautiful men alive. He’s still handsome and now he can get roles that reflect his talent more than his looks. We all get less attractive as we age. You will too if you’re lucky.
When I saw the thumbnail for this I thought "For gods sakes, another Boleyn film" IM SO GLAD I CLICKED.. We need more media about Catherine Parr, and Henry's other wives: Anne of Cleves and Catherine of Aragon
Indeed. This is one of those that claims to be "inspired by real history" but it will be basically 98% fantasy and just modern themes and modern behaviours transposed into that period. I´ll still watch it eventually though, because I love historial movies and both Alicia Vikander and Jude Law are awesome :)
Jude Law has been able to play with a lot of meaty roles over the last decade and a half. You should see him in The Young Pope; he gets to play this incredibly complex character and he does a great job showcasing the dynamics of unconditional power. Perfect practice for Henry!
I still remember being fascinated by Catherine Parr when I saw Joely Richardson in The Tudors. Can’t wait to see Alicia Vikander in this role, one of my favorite actresses. Both her and Jude Law look great here!
I'm a Tudor buff and this looks thrilling. There have been so many films about Anne Boleyn and her daughter Elizabeth I that both topics have become threadbare, so it's about time that Catherine Parr should get her own movie because her story is just as taut as those of Anne and Elizabeth.
@@ljc3484 Gattaca, Cold Mountain, Closer, Sleuth, Existenz, The Talented Mr Ripley. He has built quite the amazing career, despite some weird role choices along the way :D

I have no hopes for this to be more historically accurate from what the trailer gives away. I actually have no hopes whatsoever that this will have any accuracy at all, at that level. Names of people and places.. maybe some dates and a couple of main events.. But the rest will probably be all fabricated and the characters will behave like modern people, like it happens in 98% of movies today.
Could we please get a whole franchise of these, please? Period accurate clothing, hair, and makeup; a historically accurate portrayal of Henry VIII; the story told from his wife's point of view; a focused, grounded narrative that isn't just about his marriages, but about the politics of his time. I don't care if there would be time skips between films to make them work and some recasting possibly- this is great.
Wow! I can't wait to see this. The cast looks perfectly cast according to real history. The costuming, cinematography, music, and more look flawless! Well done! Finally a movie to look forward to seeing. Thank you!
Wow! I barely recognized Jude Law! Even though his name was in the title it took me half the trailer to realize he was Henry. Fantastic job blending into the role. And it's great to finally see Catherine Parr's story told. So many movies, series, etc. focus on the first three wives that we barely ever hear anything about the last three. Nice change of pace! I'll see this one for sure.
I can't wait. Finally, the focus on Catherine Parr. We've had a LOT focusing on Anne Boleyn and/or Catherine of Aragon. I can't wait to see this one, plus Alicia Vikander is a fantastic actor.
Wow it took me half the trailer to figure out who the heck might play King Henry until I rememberd I read the name Jude Law, and hot damn I can't believe that's him!
Ooh, this looks so good. I’ve read about Katherine Parr and listened to history podcasts about her. She was so interesting. I hope this film will do her story justice!
Ugh Wolf Hall. I love parts of it, but this looks far more promising. I hate Wolf Hall's Anne Boleyn and HATED their Wolsey even more- and I adore Jonathan Price! At least it's my favorite Cromwell, which is what the show is about, so it works overall... I just wish we could stop vilifying any of the victims of Henry, especially Anne.
I don´t think I have ever seen a trailer trying so hard.. It basically tells the all movie in a couple of minutes. Also every time I see a "Subversive" quote now it really helps me know that it is something to steer away from as much as possible. This movie, despite the amazing actors, seems to be one of those that is basically full-on fantasy disguised as a "true story" (basically Im tired of the Braveheart approach.. History is usually amazing by itself and so much better and interesting than what scriptwriters tend to completely invent and "fetichise" about).
I’m impressed! I’m a little done with the tudors and this is from a tudor buff who’s always loved elizabeth I i actually want to see more movies done about the early Plantagenet monarchs but this looks great and i will watch it and enjoy it- i’m really impressed jude law took on henry
Hmm, some great casting choices. This looks like it's one of those movies that could be incredible or really disappointing, but will HAVE to be a better depiction of Catherine Parr than what was done in Becoming Elizabeth. Man, did that series do her dirty!
I don't know why this film was released so early in France, but I saw it about a month ago in the cinema. It was really good, and interesting seeing the final wife of Henry Vlll being spotlighted, which is rare.
Finally an accurate depiction of Henry in all his ruthlessness that doesn't romanticize him.

Check out the TV series Wolf Hall, another unflattering depiction of Henry
You mean when he romantically had Anne Boleyn's head sliced off with a sword or Catherine Howard's cute execution by axe? So glad it'ss not like that.

I want a movie about the other Anne. Anne of Cleeves
Well, she was the biggest thing that happened to that bastard.

Anne of Cleeves and Catherine Howard
