    I am a Quantity Surveyor based in South Africa, I do not understand why west Africans do not use insulation when building your roof given the heat in this area, the rock filling should be done first, fill with sand then your damp proof membrane before the concrete is placed, I see they are doing it the other way where they placed the rocks on the dpm, well this defeat the purpose as the rock will punture through the dpm, just given an advise

    • @bigpot
      @bigpot 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      What’s the function of a DPM, to resist upward moist movement’s. It’s wrong to carry out the process the way you have stated. The foundation should first be infilled with laterite sand, and the hardcore placed, followed with laying d DPM and a BRC mesh placed on top. And then the final DPC

    • @IntellectualBadman
      @IntellectualBadman 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      We do not need insulation for our roofs, the height of the roof solves the problem of heat. Insulation will only cause more heat rention within the roof. Secondly, the DPC was done right, go and check The Perkins Builder brothers channel on TH-cam and you will see that Americans do their foundations in similar fashion as we do in Nigeria.

      Honestly no installation at the roof given Africa is too hot. Goodness me. And no strong foundation, should apply gravel😅

    It is advisable to use solid blocks in foundations if you don't plan on putting concrete in the hollow part of the foundation blocks. All concrete are advised to be vibrated to reduce voids by use of a poker vibrator. Hollow blocks are ideal for interior walls as they help with acoustic control/soundproofing. All hardcore in foundation should be sand blinded or soil filled to reduce gaps that may use up more concrete and also create large voids that could later cause the floor to crack from settlement if concrete is not well distributed between those hardcore gaps. Damp proof membrane (plastic) is then laid upon the sand blinding or soiling and over the foundation blocks before the grade slab is poured/concreted to prevent rapid loss of water from concrete, groundwater absorption during the rains by the slab and walls, which will create dampness in buildings, leading to the walls always being moist hence leading to paints flaking or peeling off. Neat construction by the way.

      Hollow bricks are not ideal for African houses as they trap heat inside the hollows and dispose that heat into the house. Its ideal to use sold brick or clay brick as they repel heat. Hollow bricks are for fencing

    • @rap3208
      @rap3208 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      The hollow blocks are not load bearing, they're just walls.

    • @justmelanico4136

      @@rap3208 hollow blocks are used as load bearing units so yes they are load bearing

    • @promisec.8665
      @promisec.8665 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      @@vona5251 you're very wrong here. Holo bricks are insulators ( they shield you from both cold and hot weathers ) unlike the solid bricks/blocks which are pure conductors of heat and cold.
      All the same, it's advisable to use solid blocks in your foundations as they assist in load bearing.
