    My favorite horror writer who isn’t Stephen King has to be Richard Bachman.

    I totally agree with your opinion on Clive Barker! I can be reading a scene of grotesque death and the way he describes it is like a meadow full of flowers and birds chirping on a warm day. I don’t understand how but I’m here for it! 😊❤️

    I just discovered your channel and enjoyed this video. I agree with you completely about Clive Barker. The first thing of his I read was a short story called Coming to Grief. I had the pleasure of meeting Clive after an interview he gave several years ago and I told him that this story made me fall in love with his writing. He recalled it fondly, and we chatted for a few minutes about other books and stories. It was amazing!

    Robert Mccammon is a streamlined King with similar books, and currently has a fantastic ' Night bird ' series about an earliy 18th century colonial detective. Graham Maserton is an easy read with many varied scary subjects, and Brian Lumley is stupendous.

    I would say my favorite horror writer is Joe Hill, loved everything he wrote especially NOS4A2 and Horns. I have also been trying to find new writers lately and expand so this video was great. Have you read Kill Creek? Really good so far.

    Favorite horror writer of all time, for me, is *Richard Laymon* .. I recommend starting on his writing journey with the book “Beast House”. It is part of a series (that don’t really need to be read in any particular order, I just recommend this book, first). Another fave of mine that he has penned is “The Traveling Vampire Show”. Fabulous, fun summer read, for sure! I also enjoy Jack Ketchum and Brian Keene, for the same reason I enjoy Laymon, they’re fast paced, fun, focused on relationships of all types, and for some reason, a lot of the time there is a “Final Girl” that comes out of nowhere!!!! If we are talking recent, modern horror, I definitely would suggest Grady Hendrix! “My Best Friends Exorcism”, “Horrorstor”, and “We sold our souls” are such fun, freaky books!! I love author rec videos!!!!! You get so many suggestions, not only in the video, but the comments are *fantastic* 💯

    This video popped up on my TH-cam recommendations. I generally read more sci-fi, and the only horror I'd read until 2022 was Clive Barker and H.P. Lovecraft. I have a few of Barker's books still to read...must get round to them soon. I only read my first Stephen King novel this year :O (I'm 51 so a bit late to that party :)).

      @@AndaKent I do want to read more (hence finally getting round to some Stephen King this year). I used to read loads of Clive Barker, and need to get onto his newer stuff. I've just subbed to your channel. Recommendations welcome - esp for fans of Clive Barker and Lovecraft, or horror that is a bit more interesting. I like creepy stuff or books rich on atmosphere. Body horror and gore bores me a bit.

Some suggestions for your consideration: Thomas Tessier (The Nightwalker, Fog Heart), Michael Talbot (The Delicate Dependency), Michael McDowell (The Elementals, Blackwater), Stephen Graham Jones (Mongrels, The Only Good Indians), Caitlin Kiernan (The Drowning Girl).

    I read Head Full of Ghost some time ago, it wasn't terrible, but it felt... mild. Like the author had plenty of good ideas that could have been pushed forward a lot more.
    Like, there was the opportunity to dive into topics like how fake reality TV is, pseudo science, child stardom. And those topics were brought up, but there was a lot more that could have been said.
    The father's religious fanaticism could also be pushed further. He was pretty bad, but not the worse it could have been. I've met (and heard off) people that were way more insane than this guy.
    I also didn't like the blog sections. They felt repetitive and pandering. It was like "here's a recap of what you just read and an explanation of what you should think about it"
    The ending was cool tho

    • @AndaKent
      @AndaKent  ปีที่แล้ว

      You're definitely not alone in those thoughts. Most people I talk to about the book hate the blog sections, as well. Anything possession really freaks me out so that's probably why I enjoyed it so much.
