- In a quirky tradition for every new House of Commons Speaker, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre playfully dragged Greg Fergus to the podium to make his first remarks in the role. He's the first Black person to ever hold the role in the country.

Clearly you don't know how parliament works. The speaker is separate from government. The speaker admitted he made a horrible mistake, took responsibility for it - and resigned! Conservatives want to increase the pain to Canada from the incident - for partisan gain. Totally reprehensible!

Remember, there are still Canadians alive who were there when black people (and people of colour) were completely unable to attain these positions. Context for this tradition: In the British Parliament of the past(which Canada uses as framework for it's own parliament), the Speaker was considered the most dangerous position to hold as they spoke directly to the king and could get executed for bringing bad news. Speakers had to be dragged into their office by other parliament members because of this.
