Oh my gosh. If I'm almost having heart attacks in the first four, I can't imagine what it's gonna be like when the real madness begins
After thurs and fri it'll feel like a real tournament but in the 1st and 2nd day it's madness cause it's so many teams.

Ucla vs Michigan state in 2021. Went to OT, Ucla went on to make final four

There’s been a ton of great first four games past couple seasons but I don’t think any can beat the Rutgers-Notre Dame 2OT thriller

The First Four is the perfect tune-up for the First Round games. Teams playing with nothing to lose, in do or die situations. There's nothing better than this time of year if you are a basketball fan.

Mississippi State had no business even making the tournament.
The only reason they even made the tournament is because the NCAA has been trying to pump up the SEC since the conference realignment.
Purely financial corruption, nothing else.

Watching the ACC, I don't consider making the Elite 8 one time in the past 16 years to be a good program.
So no, Pitt has never been good.
Realistically the only reason Pitt stopped making the tournament is because they switched to a deeper more competitive conference.
Kevin Stallings was trash though.
@@mitchtherevolution yeah you should do your research when they were in the big east. If you’re 33 you’re not too young to not remember the early and late 2000s and early to mid 2010s . Multiple winning seasons . Were the number one seed in 09 and made the elite eight and sweet sixteen on multiple occasions. Numerous ncaa tournament appearances. For you to discredit that and say they were never good is just ignorance and pushing a false narrative. Regardless of the conference they still made runs once they got in the tournament. Jeff Capel had to inherit the mess stallings created and had his initial team quit on him . But through the adversity he finally has them in position to compete in the acc and on the national level . So don’t worry you’ll be hearing great things about Pitt bball quite often moving forward .

I always love how we get to start off the tournament with a few exciting First Four games, with the possibility of one of those first four winners making a deep run every year.
Pitt going to be even better next year. Diaz need to put on ten pounds. And Dior will be back starting at PG!
Mississippi State had every chance to win this game. You can't get more wide open than Moore was in the corner with just under 3 seconds left. A total defensive breakdown on that last shot by Pitt. State also had a tip right at the rim off Moore's miss that didn't go down either. A really closely played, entertaining game, but Pitt was lucky to come out of the game with the "W", IMO.

Miss State was bigger, faster, stronger, longer and more athletic but Pitt played smart, executed game plan and hit the open 3 when it got the looks, which is what you have to do to beat a team like Miss State.
Great game plan and great execution.
As much as I hate when refs call a game in a way that limits physical play (basketball almost to a point where it’s too soft to watch) they were at least consistent on both sides. It definitely played in Pitt’s favor though because it neutralized Tolu Smith, 1st team All-SEC, Miss State’s big man and best player.
Honestly, Pitts big man being out played in Panther’s favor because backup was so skinny and weak that any move Smith made using strength and Physicality made it look like he was smashing the backup because he couldn’t stand his ground strength wise so he would go flying, making it look like Smith mauled him.

Oh yeah I remember this game, bet $1,000 on Pitt ML at +110, the last 2.5 seconds were the most scared I ever was in my life.. actually used the winnings as a down payment for a car 😂😂

Somehow Pitt survived despite their top player being in foul trouble and their only legit post guy being out with injury. Pitt showed heart and it also helped they are a more skilled outside shooting team. Miss. State had the clear edge in every other measurement needed to win.

This one honestly gives the Notre Dame vs Rutgers 2OT game from last year a run for its money as the best First Four game ever. Great way to start the tournament!

IKR? Jeff Capel couldn't just come out and say he was BADLY outcoached on that last play either, since it would make him look weak but...he totally was.
MSU worst 3 point shooting team in NCAA.
They were expecting the play to be in the left corner so they covered that and when he went right they didn’t expect it
Losing off a missed Wide open corner three and missed put back is a HARD L to take. Great game tho
I am impressed how the individual skills of ballers has improved since I was young back in the 1970s. While there were great players then, of course, there are just so many more kids at every level doing things now that only the elite players could do formerly.
There is good coaching in the land, and a lot individual dedication to hard work by these young men (and women!).
I salute them all.

Because every conference gets at least one tournament entrance, and a lot of those conferences are terrible.
These teams didn't win their automatic bid from the conference tournament and are selection entities.
