This project was awesome! However, I’m sure there are many people who passed it by just because of how you titled it. This video was titled: “why do people make this so difficult?” I almost passed on this one, because of the title. Tell people what you’re making.
I'm in awe.....A W E.....of your tools and equipment. It seems a world of difference in my Craftsman table saw. Geeeeeez, I wonder why. Your project was.....AWSOME!
How did you get it to bond together so strong? Mine are so flimsy and I dont understand why. I use glue and a Brad Nailer but it still comes apart easily.
Hey bro! Thanks for your video! Very inspiring 😊 I’m looking for that tool you use for make stronger the union of the angles ( minute 4:32) I know you say the name but I don’t know how to write it, if you can say it to me here I would appreciate it. 💜 and, do you have some video showing how to use it? If you don’t that would be nice! 😊
Very cool project, guys! I've actually been brainstorming a similar project for my office. Basically some honeycomb wall shelves, but I want to paint them to give the room a pop of color. Awesome work!
@@SpencleyDesignCo What I'm thinking is a white base coat then coming back with all different colors splattered on and run down. Kind of an "artsy" piece haha.
Thank you very much! I really appreciate you saying that. It’s be a grind making almost 60 videos and having so few subscribers, but it’ll pay off eventually 😀
that turned out amazing! i have to figure out a way to join them since i dont have a domino tool. also, do you recommend using pre stain conditioner on 1 by's or 2 by's board purchased from home depot? i normally sand with 120+220 then straight to oil based stain and clear. i make farmhouse or rustic style pieces.
You really don’t need the domino. That’s why I did the test to show how strong it was without them! For that type of piece, having uneven and blotchy stain is pretty common so you probably will be fine without the pre stain conditioner
Dammmmm... first video I watch from your channel and dammmm you really explain EVERYTHING so well. Looking forward to watch tons more of your videos. For now I’ll be busy on the ones you already have👍🏻👍🏻 GOOD BLESS 🙏🏻 oh and I’ll try and make this same project. Just started doing some woodwork maybe I can get to your level lol
Thanks for checking out that channel, Jose! You’ll be busy for quite awhile with the 60 videos that I have out already. I’ll be putting out about 5 videos in January and I’ve got TONS more planned
I noticed that you applied the conditioner and stain by hand and polyurethane by the paint gun..any reason you didn't use the paint gun for conditioner and staining ?
Good question! To be honest, I don’t know if you can apply the conditioner by hand 🤷♂️. I imagine it probably could, but I think this is only the second project I’ve ever used stain for since I always refuse to do it for clients because it’s such a pain. I’m just not well educated on all the methods of application. For the stain though, my entire garage would’ve been painted in brown speckles unless I Dexter-fied everything with plastic tarps. Spraying a clear polyurethane isn’t that big of deal because the tiny spots won’t really be visible on the walls and floors. I hope that helped shed some insight as to what we going through my head 😀
I wonder how much outward pressure they would take? I am thinking of making these and filling each honeycomb with wine bottles which would have some outward pressure as well as the downward pressure when stacked. Obviously it would be better if it was trapped between two walls but or a outer box type walls built around it but still I wonder about the outward strength. What do you think?
I honestly couldn’t give you any quantifiable answer to that, but I doubt you’d run into any failure. I’d just build a test piece and see if it’s strong enough. I’m sure it will be 😀
So freakin cool Bud. What a dope project. What would be your thoughts on having varying depth hexagons all mounted together?? Hoping all is well, Dirty Jersey out!!
@@SpencleyDesignCo So you would say Yes right?? And possibly leaving some half hexagons on top level for possible long flat surface. Either way still super Dope shelves!! Still have a ton of videos to catch up on!! Hoping all is well, Dirty Jersey out again!!
I like the project, just 1 critique. You zero’d the angle gauge on the blade. You’re supposed to zero it in the table and then put it on the blade. I know you got the blade square prior to the first set of cuts. It’s probably a negligible difference but a good habit to zero on the table and then attach to the blade.
Let’s first say how awesome Patagonia hats are! Really great job with the unit and the video. You know your stuff! I saw this on r/mead so you know I gotta ask if you possibly take custom orders. I’m putting the walls up on my nano Meadery and I’d be cool as hell to have a few honeycomb storage units.
Hi, Adam! Thanks so much for checking out the video! I definitely take custom orders. There’s a custom inquiry form on our website at spencleydesignco.com/contact

Must be a advertisement for that digital level, never use digital levels to square up your table saws blade I know you want to show off your new gadget but use a good old square, for one the garage floor is definitely at a slope and two the table that the table saw sits on isn’t level
Awesome tutorial and production quality, but why the obnoxious clickbait-esque title? This is limiting your visibility for those looking for a video like this based on specific keywords.. but I could be wrong. I noticed this trend among most of your videos. I don't think your key audience is after those social media shockers, but rather quality content to learn from. Just my two cents.
I don't get why the title of this video is: why I quit building for clients? Also, you have a newer video on your channel where you are: Building a wine rack "for a client". Change of heart?
This video is 2 years old. He has a love and passion for the art. Maybe he wanted to walk away because he was leaning more into catering to clients and furthur away from his creativity. Maybe he found a way to do both. Maybe he grew or made some changes to how he does his work. Dont really think we need to imply that this is bullshit in some way
I'm watching this video now (3.1.2023) and now it has the title "stop wasting your time building for clients". I don't know if the title has been changed. But in any case. I don't understand this title, nor eventually the former (original) one.
Looking at it 1/5/23 title is "why do people make this so difficult"...guessing he changes title to get hits or to pop up where it may not usually pop up...kinda feeling click bait(y)

Excellent video and information. Never knew why it was a 30 deg cut until today! Thank you.
Glad you found it helpful! I’ve got a ton of other woodworking projects too 😀
Nice job. The one design I have yet to build. Will have to put this on my list of things to build.
Thanks for the video.

Like it. Simple and elegant. But not what I'd call a bookcase - more of an ornaments display system
Can I say I appreciate all
the detail in explaning the math...

I’m glad you found it helpful! Any videos you’d like to see in the future?
Just a quick update my wife and I built four out of six honeycombs today (2 to go ) but using your tip, they came out great.
Awesome! I’m glad to hear it!
really cool tutorial . very very useful for a youtube woodworker newbee like me .

What domino cutter is that?

Well said
How long the pieces are?
I’m not sure which piece you are referring too?
I’m slow: is the saw blade set at 30* or 60*? The video makes it sound like you set it to 30* but tablesaw blades don’t tilt to 30*…
Couldn’t you have made this without the center hexagon?
Is this resistant to water
Thanks for checking out the video! Yes, I finished this piece with polyurethane which is a water resistant finish.
