Old “terrible” animated movies from the 2000s have an interesting aura no other modern animated atrocity could have (Like Space Chimps). They are all stupidly wonderful films from a bygone era and I mean that wholeheartedly
This movie terrified me as a kid for some reason. Weird coming back and realizing how silly the plot was lmao, -honestly it seems like the people behind it had fun
The second one is even worse if you can believe it. But as a whole, the CONCEPT isn't the problem rather, as always, the execution. The designs of the characters are uninspired and lazy and the attempt at snappy humor just flops. It's ironic too as Andy would find himself in a much better film in Hotel Transylvania (say what you will about it's sequels) which has all the charm Space Chimps didn't and I think that's in part thanks to the enjoyable humor but more importantly Genndy Tartakovsky handling the animation direction which resulted in a much more energetic and fun looking film. This? This is a good example when you do take full advantage of what animation can do and just want to hop a bandwagon. So many movies wanted to capitalize on Shrek's success not just for it's CGI but it's tone which was an escape from the more saccharine sweet, overly theatrical style people knew from Disney to a more comedy led, easier for adults to sit through style of storytelling but for every Shrek there's a dozen Space Chimps and like Space Chimps, they all fade into the background.
i forgot that andy samberg was in 'hotel transylvania'! i think that the main issue with 'space chimps' is that it comes across as pretty sterile not only due to the issues that you mentioned above, but because it came across as pretty lifeless and uninspired in comparison to contemporary films like 'wall-e' (which i think is what its rotten tomatoes' 'critical consensus' section was getting at).
I let out a laugh when I saw Ham just straight up fall from the cliff. Like, Luna got to safely land, but Ham had to take that fall like a GTA Ragdoll. How did he not break every bone in his body, let alone his arm, considering he didn't just bellyflop, it looked like he landed on an angle.
I always remember that I wanted to go to watch "You Don't Mess with the Zohan" on cinemas, but was full. So I couldn't see it and had to watch this movie instead. I still think about it

yeah, i feel they were "terrible" because they weren't *particularly* well written, but were still gimmicky/silly enough to be enjoyable
This movie is the movie you find playing for a kid in a crack house
And then there's Space Chimps 2, which is god awful beyond belief.

huh, maybe it was the odd late-2000s cgi?

16:07 as an art history student this hurt :(
don't worry, i wouldn't let a cartoon chimp voiced by the same guy who voices joe swanson put you down

awesome, i just found a new hidden gem channel, i like how you make reviews for some relatively unknown movies, also nice editing
thank you! i do like reviewing more mainstream movies from time to time, but i think the wacky films are more fun to talk about

@@nappa1413 thank you!
This film was so poorly marketed and received lower box office results, it ended up being taken out after 2 weeks
I remember seeing this on tv n thought ah hell nah they really just be putting anything on tv huh
it's amazing how so many people have watched the exact same films I did as a kid
its great, right?
