@@onetakem Because he only has three rounds in the game that's exactly why I think buzzfeed needs to tell him the basic mechanics. If he shows up in another vid then maybe it's kinda okay.

raiahi Being completely realistic isn't what makes great games. Play Shenmue, then say that quick time events for every action a character makes is the only true kind of realism. No time passing while crafting would be untenable, having to press buttons for quick time events for 3 hours in real time to craft anything.. That's not a game.. That's a life on Earth as a Human 1:1, so you may as well not play the game kind of simulation.

I’d honestly never even thought about dissembling a bullet to use the gun powder as an accelerant to easily start a fire. If anything this should be implemented. Amazing idea for survival games.
Rachel Bloom it’s obvious to a gamer to pick up all the sticks and that they reset, but this guy was thinking real life. No survivalist is going to just jam cold wet snow sticks into their pockets. That would lower your chance of survival. The problem with applying real life survival logic into video games means the games would be boring as all hell. A minimalist mindset. Water is really the necessity in real life. In real life you can go weeks without eating. And everything is flammable. Most organic things are edible-though not very nutritious. There's much, much more depth to The Long Dark's mechanics than you had the time to explore-but you're right! There's so much more you can do in a survival situation than you can in game. Sadly, that's just the nature of the (if you'll excuse my pun) game-there's only so much you can program. While I don't think you got the best experience the The Long Dark had to offer, I'm so glad you gave it a shot and brought it to spotlight! Thank you!
He is definitely more experienced in survival then the devs of the game. They should have hired him for consulting in order to make a game more realistic and educational.
They are an extremely small dev team, and they sometimes speak about how they sacrifice realism for the sake of bringing features and mechanics which actually bring something to the experience of the game. Maybe if it was a larger game development studio they could afford to spend resources on realistic features purely for the sake of realism
This game wasnt meant to be instructional or educational at all lmao tf. Some aspects need to be a bit unrealistic to accommodate the story and gameplay
Personally I don’t agree with you. It’s best to let the devs do what they what and make the game how they what. Listening to the community is fine but I doesn’t always help and can often ruin or slow the development of the game.
When he mentioned taking apart furniture for fabric (in the car) or eating the grasses/cattails, I wish he saw that those options were really in the game!! The devs did an amazing job with the features in this game. There's also a story mode.
He is like the grandpa you always wanted. Hw is bad at playing games but, I didn't care one bit because of his lovable personality and the insightful lessons he taught along the way. I love how he self-consciously had his hand up whenever he was searching in the game, or how he held his hands up to the fire as if he was actually a part of the game!
They set this guy up to fail they 1.didnt teach him what the icons meant 2.didnt tell him that he could to LITERALLY everything he said to do and 3.didnt even tell him how to bring up his inventory and 4.knowingly set him up in the hardest region
If someone taught him how to use his inventory and the actual mechanics of the game this would be such an AWESOME series. I love the long dark, and his thought process would be so cool to watch.
I love how excited this guy seems when he actually figures out how to gather useful stuff. Can't imagine how much fun he'd have if he understood all of the mechanics.
First if all, he did an awesome video! :D 1:50 it is interesting how he goes directly to the plant and saying well this could be a resource to eat for example. BUT the ones you can eat (in the game) are the stem of the bulrush, and use the top as tinder! This shows how close you can get to some resources, but yet that far if you don't have the knowledge. He claims how important is to know your surroundings, but yet he goes to an unknown hinterland where physics are ... well, those of a game jajajajaja
I’ve been gaming for 26 years (1994 PS came out) and I find the Long Dark challenging when you first start. For having no experience with gaming he started this like a BOSS. I also enjoy his voice.
And the fact that you can use blackpowder in the game as an accelerate now and breaking ammo down gives you blackpowder, but I will admit that during the making of this video it was not in the game yet
Miloš Vlajković I bought it a bit ago and watched it improve, it’s quite fun and i definitely recommend it! a lot of the features in the game, they didn’t include in this video. you can eat the plants (cattails, he probably missed it) and so many other features. :) it’s very enjoyable, give it a try if you can.
A lot of the features the guy was complaining about were actually in the game, and a quick google search can help verify that. The game is nowhere near as lacking as the video and commentors make it out to be. If you're wanting a realistic permadeath survival experience then The Long Dark is going to be a far better choice than The Forest.
Most of the thing he said you can actually do it in the game even thoe he just walked past them like how he said maybe that plant was edible well right next to that plant were cat thingys (forgot its name lul) you can eat the branches and use the head as a tinder for a fire or you can collect rocks and use it to throw at rabbits to stun theö then get to them grab em and SNAP THEIR NECK!! to later cook it

Just ok case you didn't know their name is Hinterland which is a bit shorter than saying "The Long Dark devs."

I'd definately watch him play other survival games. I see the passion. Hire him as the survival expert in a game development project.
Or not since lot of the things he said were actuall things you can do but he himselfs said plast time played pac man 30 years ago so obviously he didn't knew WTF he was doing

I want him to make a series
i would really like to see him play it again after getting instructed properly!
Yea they dont show him to keep the fire or the icons for they even dont show him how to used clothes
Even if they just showed him how to open the Inventory, it would have been a huge help

This guy would be so good at hosting a gaming channel for survival games. His commentary is outsanding and he explains scenarios so well
I love his little roleplaying lol. "Ahh edible water, mmmm!" Lol
He needs to start a TH-cam channel.
Haqim FM holy sh8t good idea
I'd watch his videos for sure
He should start a channel and then he could come back on this channel for a part two and to promote his new channel.
It would be amazing
he does have a channel
he’s so pure
Why didn't you explain the controls or mechanics to him? :( He clearly knows his stuff, but as a fan of the game it's kind of hard to watch at points
Like when his vision went or when he could've used to accelerant to give him a definite fire. I love The Long Dark however I have so many ideas I'd add to the game that would make it more interesting. Im sure hinterland is working hard all the time but man if they hired me and this guy they'd have ideas for years
Like, Did he put on the clothing he found?
LMAO no ash or nothing? just went to fire heaven? this is gold.
10:58 'fire heaven' had me rolling all over lmfao
Me too XD
U have problems
SO HAPPY to see this game finally getting some recognition !!! Been playing for years!
They should have hired him for consulting in order to make a game more realistic and educational.
vitalino1981 before you even loud the game up it says “this is not for educational reasons”
They are an extremely small dev team, and they sometimes speak about how they sacrifice realism for the sake of bringing features and mechanics which actually bring something to the experience of the game. Maybe if it was a larger game development studio they could afford to spend resources on realistic features purely for the sake of realism
Hi! The word you're looking for is he has more survival knowledge "than" the developers!
"Even dead peaple are welcome"

"It says I need tinder... What about this book."
I'm no survival expert but that was obvious and it pissed me off when playing.
Still don't get why you can't burn cloth
When he mentioned taking apart furniture for fabric (in the car) or eating the grasses/cattails, I wish he saw that those options were really in the game!! The devs did an amazing job with the features in this game. There's also a story mode.
"stale, i don't care if it's stale.
you haven't eaten in two weeks
stale doesn't mean anything"
"Dog food? Hey, i'll take it."
fave lines so far
please do more survival games, this is amazing 😍
He is like the grandpa you always wanted. Hw is bad at playing games but, I didn't care one bit because of his lovable personality and the insightful lessons he taught along the way.
I love how he self-consciously had his hand up whenever he was searching in the game, or how he held his hands up to the fire as if he was actually a part of the game!
"oooh take it" lmao i can watch this guy all day
Oh no, you started him in Pleasant Valley, probably one of the hardest regions
Lol yea agreed haha stuck there almost a year, stop playing, and then found a way out to mysterious lake ...
@@-_pi_- a year, sorry
I think that HRV is the hardest zone to survive in.
1:50 it is interesting how he goes directly to the plant and saying well this could be a resource to eat for example.
I love watching profesional real life play games, thanks buddy
I could listen to this dude all day
He lowkey sounds like Bob Ross 🤗🤗
I just love the fact that he seems to be enjoying the game. Well done Hinterland!!
You should explain to him how the game works, especially if he didn't play games before
I’ve been gaming for 26 years (1994 PS came out) and I find the Long Dark challenging when you first start. For having no experience with gaming he started this like a BOSS. I also enjoy his voice.
"I probably wouldn't be in a hangout mode because there's a dead person nearby" lmao
Let me see how that feels 🙌 🔥 that feels good 😂
A good sense of humor can save you out in the wild... 😂
If I'm cold, I can't play this game. 😊# too realistic ambience
I saw this comment AS he says the line!
Chef SG hahahah
"Ammo is good for fire starting"
Not what I was thinking but, ok
Well it would make sense from a realist perspective, wouldn't it, seeing that the ammo is combustible and all
And the fact that you can use blackpowder in the game as an accelerate now and breaking ammo down gives you blackpowder, but I will admit that during the making of this video it was not in the game yet
Y’all did him dirty by not teaching him the game
Chris: *Finds anything that is even the most remotely useful*

This dude needs to be hired as an adviser for the next big survival game. He'd take it to the next level.
This game always made me feel like it would be easier to survive in real life than in the game
True lmfao

Rather than have him play, they should have had him react to the survival aspects of the game as demonstrated by someone who knows how to play.

It seems the game should add some new features!
They already have many many features he mentioned
The game isn't advanced enough for him. So many survival ideas but the game doesn't allow him to do it.
Most of the thing he said you can actually do it in the game even thoe he just walked past them like how he said maybe that plant was edible well right next to that plant were cat thingys (forgot its name lul) you can eat the branches and use the head as a tinder for a fire or you can collect rocks and use it to throw at rabbits to stun theö then get to them grab em and SNAP THEIR NECK!! to later cook it
Honestly man this game is ALOT more advanced then it looks, the only problem is buzzfeed took a guy who has never played any modern video games and threw him in without any basic knowledge of the game. Just look for guides of the game online they explain more in depth on how advanced this game really is, I am sure the game would impress you if you looked into it :).
@@chrisstoltz3648 pretty worthless shelter when there are actual structures you can go inside of. the maps aren't that big, haybale shelters would be a waste of time to implement when actual houses exist.
@@chrisstoltz3648
I'm not so sure, we've had those hay bales before and they are very packed together. I don't think trying to dig a hole in that at -25 while you're freezing is the best strategy. Especially considering there were better options available.
He is so funny I love himmm he should vlog I would totally watch
I thought this video was going to be a bit boring but ended up being one of the most interesting ones in the series, its very immersing to just listen to this guy explain, you can tell his experience.
That was so cool a survivalist like this guy did a series on this game but also taught how did not get killed in the wilderness and give us like extra information I feel like that would be dope

It was SUPER fun watching and listening to this survivalist gentleman!!
In real life he survives 500+ days. Every gamer fade into the long dark in first day...
For all the people that are saying that they should add new features that he was talking about, they already ready had many of they features he stated, he just did not know how to do said thing, you can find cattails, you can make a snow shelter (lean-to) hinterland games (the devs) have worked extremely hard on this game and adding all these extremely small details would make the game far to complicated
What a cool dude. I’d love to take one of his survival classes.
oh man, i wanna see the guy play some more. he's so into it. really nice to watch
Okay, I enjoyed this way more than I thought I would
Bring him back, he's awesome
