In my line of work as a courier, I've driven the 2020 Sprinter, both in short and long wheelbase. My current ride is a 2020 Transit and I must say except for the engine it is a superior van in all respects. It drives/handles way nicer, more like a tall car than a truck. Rides nicer, gets blown around on the highway a lot less. Brakes are better, better pedal feel. It rattles/squeaks less and feels more solid, all the doors close with a much nicer thunk. Seat is better, infotainment screen is LIGHT YEARS ahead of the garbage Benz offers as standard. Mirrors/side window design is way better. Main thing is the step in height is significantly lower, the Ford is a lot more short person friendly. Only complaint is the base V6 in the Transit has ZERO low end torque and feels like a total slug. Which makes sense, it was the V6 Mustang motor, it doesn't crank until 3000rpm and has a 7000rpm redline, just the wrong sort of engine for this application.

Covered passenger truck. That's payload with those seats, weigh it with and without seats to see how much more you could haul. You could put 4x8 plywood all day, fridges, and all the stuff is covered in a climate controlled space.

You can’t legally add more seats as it becomes a commercial vehicle requiring a cdl/chauffeur license to transport more than 15 people at a time....indeed there is discussion right now in congress to reduce this number further.😡

    • @Nostradamus_Order33

How does this not look like a commercial vehicle in this configuration?
If you get pulled over, odds are, law enforcement would not know the laws and give you a ticket anyway which you would have to go to court to straighten out.

You didn't mention the Ram Promaster when talking about competition, no passenger version of that but it is a cargo van. I purchased a bran new one of them in 2018 and turned it into a camper van with running water and A/C. My big white high roof baby with the Pentastar V6 gets 19mpg on the highway despite 1,000 pounds of camper crap in the back. Around town 15ish men. I ended up paying $28k for mine with most of the options they had for the cargo high roof variant I picked up, other than AWD I think Ford's prices are getting to high for sure!

This is restricted on towing by the cooling system primarily. That's a tiny front compared to an Excursion.
The Expedition has nearly the same capability as the Excursion. I'm sure the 3.5tt and 10 speed will not live quite as long as the 7.3 and 4 speed, but I think if the powertrain was overmaintained, and warmed up before going crazy, it would be pretty much trouble free for >200k. Oil manufacturers like Castrol and Pennzoil offer free 15 year / 350k warranties on engines anyway...

It can send 100% torque to either axle, which is how some folks define 4WD. The "4WD" Sprinter is stuck with a 1/3 - 2/3 F-R torque split, and has to rely to traction control to overcome that. Anyways, a traditional Transfer Case 4x4 is available from Quigley or QuadVan, and both are available on a ship-through basis through most Ford dealers, and maintain the full warranty.

I'm driving a 2016 Ford Transit base model cargo van with the 3.7 liter naturally aspirated V6. It's my work horse in the HVAC business. That van has got almost 100k. miles on it in four years, and has taken a beating like no other. The van is tough as nails and I highly recommend this van to anyone trying to decide whether to purchase one or not. Ford knocked it out of the park with this one. The van in this video would be nice as an RV conversion, but a body on frame would be a better choice of van though to support the added weight.

@@LemonySnicket-EUC I think I got the numbers for the Transit Custom when I originally googled this, that being said the Transit is still impressive. According to Auto Express
"The latest updates have further improved economy, and Ford claims a best figure of 43.5mpg for the smallest front-wheel drive models. If you opt for the mild-hybrid 128bhp engine option with its 48V starter/generator... The best combined figures for the mild-hybrid range from 44.8-47.1mpg on the combined cycle, which could make a big difference over higher mileages."
Keep in mind that those figures are in imperial MPG, so 47.1MPG in this case is the same fuel consumption as roughly 39MPG in the US. The vans tested are also not the biggest ones so fuel economy will be reduced a bit for those models
