Dude knows his stuff . Clear concise explanations. I really need to get back into scrapping. It’s addictive. All you see is metal everywhere you go…radar is always up
I have been watching a number of scrapping videos lately. I now have a truck and retirement has given lots of free time. I just wanted to say that your video is the BEST video so far. I learned more from you than all the other people I’ve watched. Your presentation was clear and easy to follow. Thanks
Thanks Tom, Very informative and helps me sort my product better. Thing to remember is that like the yard I go to, the manager has put me on a quality list as I am trying to give them better value product, so there staff know that I am not trying to rip them off. Recycping product is a 2 way street and it is good to know that the recycle shop we go to will look after us better financially because we try to look after them by sorting the product correctly.
I commend you on your center. I also had the idea of educational posters for my center. You have taken it further with TV. I'm a believer that educated customers make better customers.

Good lord your scrap warehouse and office, and am willing to bet your yard, are so nice, clean and well kept looking. Id feel confident walking into your establishment.
I would strongly suggest checking with whoever is buying your hard drives if you sell them as hard drives. by taking off the board you may actually lose money as hard drives without the board are much less valuable than just crating them up and leaving them on. I will be doing an actual test soon to see if any money is made or lost. but generally, I would suggest leaving them on unless you are planning on destroying the drive or have already established that you make more money that way
This was a very enjoyable video and informative too. This video just got me more motivated to go scraping more!!! You should do more videos like these. You should maybe do a tour of what ferrous metals you take.that would be a wonderful video as well.
Thanks Tom for the thoutful education In ways scrapers can get better prices for their labour. I have been coming to your business for many years but have much more to learn. Please keep producing more videos. The price of gas lately has been challenging. Best wishes.😛
The last scrap run I did they had some partial sheets of 1/4" A-36 they wanted more for them than I pay to have full sheets delivered (even thought they probably only paid pennies a pound for them) LoL
I got some very old heavy charger/adapter which has same shape and structure as the traditional ballast you showed in the video but they r smaller. Do you have any idea what are those ?m

@@davem5308 copper thieves I would assume . Heard that Arizona has had a lot of copper theft millions of dollars. But that goes on everywhere . I’d definitely find a different yard or move out of Arizona!
@@ScrapFatherScrapSon you are spot on, it all has to do with copper wire theft. if the wire is stripped the police can’t use a description, brand, or any identifying features to link it to the site that had the wire stolen. I’m not sure how it is in the rest of the country but if we bring in any radiator they will not pay cash you will receive a check. that’s due to people cutting them out of air conditioning units that are on the ground. Ive seen wrought iron cages around some ac units that were in easily accessible places. one final thing, someone please tell me if it’s different other places but we are not allowed to sell catalytic converters even if it came off our own vehicle. you need a business license to show you have a legitimate reason to be in possession of them. like an exhaust shop or something. battery powered sawzalls and angle grinders made it too fast and easy to cash in with hardly any effort. i’ve wondered if we have it especially bad in AZ or if every state has pet much the same regulations, someone enlighten me please.

Two way street for sure!
I wish we had a scrap yard like this here in my area
Time to move out to us!
Cool, clean and very well organized Tom. It would be great to have a yard like yours nearby.
Wish you could come on down!
This is definitely the place to get an idea of what things are running today and every day.

Amen. We think that the more that customers know the better that we both get treated.
One of your better Videos Tom.....nicely done
Thanks for watching!
Some older transformers will fracture at welds when you strike them just right. I use a cold chisel, but I've seen a guy repurpose a hatchet for it.
I just cut one side off and knock the copper out with a chisel or a punch
If the copper is in sheet form instead of the wire I just cut one slit on one side and just pull them right out but those are the old big ones
We will add that to our video making list! Thanks!
4 pound mini sledge with a skinny wedge type end does the trick my 8 year old son can do it

What about JH A325 hex bolts and nuts? I have a whole bunch of it I need to get rid of
What are those? Regular steel bolts?
Love the longer video!
Yay! Thank you! We will work on more.
You should include die-cast zinc many think it's cast aluminum. Can be hard to tell the difference.
We will add it onto the list!
I do alot of ewaste recycling, I was informed that the heatsinks from computers is NOT extruded. Please if you could explain why its NOT extruded .
some heatsinks can be made of other alloys; typically 6061 or 6063. That being said, most will likely be graded as some form of cast
Cpu heatsinks, ive been told that they are extruded, so, can you do a video on this subject
Very informative I appreciate it
