First Ishin remake, now this, then Gaiden and now both Judgement and Lost Judgement on PC. Glad to see the developers realise how important and loved the franchise is and they’re not ready to stop and make a game of a low quality. Looking forward to playing Like a dragon 8!

Aaaand just like that the GAME OF THE YEAR dropped and I spent more than 80 hours playing this masterpiece! Yakuza 8 is one of the strongest titles so far!
This is the moment Kiryu says "It's Ishin' time" and Ichiban goes "It's heroin' time" at the same time! Truly the basest move by RGG yet.
"It's heroin' time" --> *proceeds to overdose on heroin*
My favorite part is when Icchiban punches that one dude and Kiryu says "Wow, you really hit him like a dragon!"

Game is a bit disappointing, boss battles were a joke and not as memorable, also the writing needed work.
Battle system improved alot though.

I like how we get to hear the lines of the main cast (the party members, Sawashiro, Ebina, Eiji, Arakawa) and Yamai in the trailer. I replayed the trailer over and over so much since the announcement that I'm able to catch many of the lines while playing without knowing Japanese

@@christiangleason122 not entirely back pedaling since people always have to fight for a peaceful life ni matter how much they want to stay out of conflict. Some people just can't leave Kiryu alone and then there are people who actions lead to harming Haruka and now possibly Haruto.
Considering Kiryu will only go out of hiding if someone he cares about is in very dangerous situation, I am guessing Haruka, Haruto, or both maybe at risk with whatever is happening in Yakuza 8 plot this time.

I have mixed feelings cause on one hand, I was hoping Kiryu would be a character they use sporadically for Ichiban's story. Someone who showed up to mentor him on the right path, like in 7. I'm hoping the developers don't use Kiryu in a way that feels like they're leaning on him, like a crutch, cause, Ichiban, and his crew are a really good group of characters that need/should be more fleshed out in future installments.
But on the other hand fuck yeah it's Kiryu that's awesome.

Watch it to the end because when the team defeats amon and goes away, it shows that kiryu and amon are talking about how kiryu does not want to give ichiban the burden of keeping on his legacy, kiryu says that kasuga ichiban is kasuga ichiban and he can do whatever he wants.

In Yakuza 3 (my favourite) you can check Sayama's character profile in the menu. In the beginning it says she "refused an invitation to dinner by handsome american cop" but if you check later it will say something like "went out to dinner with handsome american cop". It's safe to say she was never intended to come back.
In Yakuza 3 it's clear Sayama went for some American hot dog, if you get what I mean. She wanted that MURIKKKAN D.
I always thought it would be cool if in this game, it’s Ichiban who finds out about her, tracks her down, and convinces her to see Kiryu again. Kiryu needed a spark to truly come back to life after all he’s been through. To find out that spark is none other than Ichiban himself is poetry.

As much as I love Kiryu, I'm not really sure how I feel about him returning as a main character. His ending in 6 was great and he didn't steal too much spotlight in 7 since he was more of a mentor. I just feel like Ichiban should have more of a chance to shine as the protagonist.
My thoughts exactly; wish they'd let him rest. He's earned it.
Maybe this will be a way where they can finally write kiryu out? Like he manages to reconnect with Haruka an retires an then from then on we carry on with ichiban? I know quite a lot of people who didn’t like the ending to 6 so I’m assuming that’s why they are doing this maybe to properly tie up his story.
Maybe they're just expanding Kiryu's mentor role. Perhaps there'll be situations where Ichiban keeps taking those hands, so Kiryu has to square up for him.
They were never planning to drop Kiryu even after 6 and frankly, this is Yokoyama's Yakuza, not Nagoshi's anymore.
@@rocketman9448 The idea of him reconnecting with Haruka is also something I have mixed feelings on. I think Yakuza 6's ending was so powerful because Kiryu had to make such a big sacrifice by letting Haruka believe he was dead. I was already disappointed that Daigo, Majima, and Saejima know he's alive in 7 because it cheapens Kiryu's sacrifice.
Two good things from the franchise. Ishin getting remake and coming to the west and now we’re getting a 8 mainline with the original title and kiryu teaming up with ichiban. Yes!

also ps5 playerbase on japan are still quite low, its smart for them to target ps4 playerbase on japan since yakuza series is pretty much a game targeted for japanese demographic first and japanese ps4 player base is quite large.
It’s DLC for like a Dragon from what I understand so definitely, they flashed all the consoles at the end so you’ll be good
Considering that their games are more artistic than technical, it stands to reason that they keep releasing games on older systems until the hardware can't take it anymore.
Playstation has completely lost its reputation in Japan because of their greedy and scummy practices on top of firing the entire Japan Studio and closing it down and then investing more into the China Games Project. They were already half dead in Japan(Xbox sold more than PS5 for 2 consecutive weeks for the first time in 15 years) and Nintendo is completely slaughtering them.
Then they raised their prices for the PS5(in Japan more than anywhere else) when the console was already hard to find. Because of all of the reasons above, plus the fact the console is still hard to find, they are forced to make PS4 versions of their games in order to sell on Playstation as nobody would want a PS5 other than Final Fantasy fans who would buy anything(and even some of them are moving towards PC). Pretty much everyone is doing it.

It's weird seeing Kiryu, running with Ichi, but I understand for two reason why that's the case.
1. Kiryu wants to settle a score or try to find a breakthrough to be back with his family, so getting Ichi on his side helps greatly.
2. The Yakuza Devs want to see Kiryu with Turn-Based Combat, or slowly make adjustments to make a perfect flow between Turn Based and Beat'em up action.

It's gonna be a blend of both. When playing as Kiryu, it'll be brawler, but Ichiban will have the Y7 turn based combat

I just bought 7 in January and didn't start playing it until the following month. I was expecting a typical JRPG turn based since I'm a big fan of the genre and didn't expect more. But boy I was surprised.
Ichiban is one of the best(if not the best) protagonist in a turn based JRPG game I played in my whole life. It's super fun to play, never did I get bored. The story is so good and the side characters are likeable and well balanced.
I'm probably posting this at the wrong comment section but I'm rating Yakuza : Like a Dragon a 10/10. This game is special and I would rank this next to my favorite FF game which is FFX

Is a jrpg if you think about it, rotating party members for story battles, item management, stat based combat, side quest that involve you talking to every npc, also grinding levels to take on harder content, legendary weapons and armor, weakness and strength system,mp management(heat gauge)

I never played any Yakuza games but a month ago I randomly downloaded Yakuza Like a Dragon because it was free I really didn’t think much when I saw the game ad tbh but damn man I’m currently at chapter 10 with 50 hours…. The game is just so addicting, satisfying, story and characters are just amazing after I’m done with Like a Dragon I’m so excited to try out Yakuza 0 I already got it downloaded can’t wait 😎
Gonna be honest you should’ve started w y0 it gives you a proper perspective on all of the legends and kiryu Majima daigo and saejimas appearances also it has more impact seeing kiryu knowing he’s been through everything and is now passing the torch to Ichiban however I’m sure the games will still leave a massive impact on you hope you enjoy the yakuza series
Zero is amazing! You'll love it. Despite what the other guy says (yeah, it's true) i also started like you and i still enjoyed piecing things together in terms of the characters i saw in like a dragon but didn't really know about. It's nice to sort of learn their back story. Didn't harm my enjoyment of the game in any way
0 is so awesome! I introduced my buddy to that game and it started him on his Yakuza journey. Also the cabaret mini game is so goat!
@@kieransmith4631 actually i think people should leave zero for latest. Reason being , it's considered an anniversary entry for yakuza and it's filled with content that the devs put their heart and soul in. So it's story and content is miles better than, say, yakuza 4 or 5.
Be ready to cry for at least Zero and Six. Also, Eight will be co-written by the dude who wrote Zero and Six.

If that new hair style is all a set up for a scene where Kiryu walks out and has the classic hair, I will have learned that Yakuza can even make me anticipate a hair change scene.
Also, I know the description says that this will still be a turn-based RPG. But imagine if Ichiban plays like an RPG and Kiryu plays like the classic beat-'em up system. That's how things should be done, Kiiiiryu-chan!
They have already said that Kyru will have his own full party separate from Ichibans. Meaning Kyru's gameplay will also be turn-based because it facilitates the party based combat that they are specifically going for.
@@DeemerAV Ok but imagine if his party is just a new type of progression system, or a stance system where you have one ally at once on the field and you switch THEM up instead of stances (since it doesn't make sense to use the canonically weaker, incomplete stances instead of the dragon of dojima). Furthermore, to avoid leveling him down again, they would make it so kiryu is insanely strong, but his partner isn't. They could use elemental affinities to encourage balanced development. Then, as the game progresses, the other characters catch up to him and make fighting alongside them comparable to having an equal by your side, cementing the "passing the torch to a new generation" theme this game will undoubtedly go for.

I hope they expanded Kamarucho in this game. It would be nice to see more of Shinjuku and actually be allowed to enter Kamarucho Hills freely. Oh and on the subject of Kamarucho Hills, i hope they remember to light up the tower at night this time...

@@grief6052 But it's developed by the same studio and published by the Sega. There is no exclusivity deals currently active for the franchise even then that's never stopped cameos in video games. I'm curious who would have the rights to sue the developers and the publishers from using the characters they have the rights to? I'm assuming we won't see any other Sega games referenced by Yakuza due to this mysterious group...oh wait.
Let us remember that, after Yakuza 6, Kiryu is forced to live in anonymity. Already in Yakuza 7 he tells Ichiban that he can't be seen too much outdoors. I believe, or rather I hope, that that look is a kind of disguise in order not to be recognized but to get back into the action.
Presumably 8 is after Gaiden, which probably takes place at or near 7.

2: No idea, sounds like a new character
3: That's obviously Takehito Koyasu. The only yakuza character he has voiced is a Ibuchi and he's dead. Also he sounds a lot more like Dio rather than Ibuchi
4: 100% Makoto Makimura's VA, having her make a cameo as Makoto would be sick

6: Adachi
7: Seong Hui maybe?

I don't understand japanese so I was wondering if these were new lines coming from characters that are going to appear in this upcoming game or these were old lines compiled from characters that had appeared from previous games.
I actually thought 1 sounds more like Ryuji’s voice actor (there have been rumours and “leaked” screenshots, not that I’d put any trust in them), sounds too deep for Sawashiro imo
3 is absolutely him, one of the most distinct voices in the Japanese VA business

11 is definitely zhao, i will be honestly surprised if he returns as a playable character, same with joon-gi

@@lolfunny7533 I disagree. Yakuza 6’s ending goes against what the series stands for. Literally the mistake Kiryu made yakuza 1 was giving up and running away which led to the ones he was trying to protect losing themselves without him (Nishiki and Yumi). Yakuza 5 is again the same situation and it ends with Kiryu accepting his past and that he wants to go back to his kids. Despite this in y6 he makes the same mistake and disappears again. I think Kiryu needs a comeback. (Plus the series has become more lighthearted anyway, does it really matter)
