Hi Dan. Never seen one of those John Deere engines, quite surprised with the stationary engine design. Relaxing video while having a cuppa. Cheers Tony
Thanks Tony. Trying to learn a new video editor and had this in the can. John Deere over here is the Harley Davidson of lawn equipment - LOL. Friend of my wife was moving and offered it up for $200. I jumped on the price unseen. Flipped the blades over to the correct side and replaced the steering gear. Pretty happy with the investment. Thanks for watching.
Hello Dan, Good video, Interesting to hear some of your background and about how something in your formative years still has stayed with you. Take care. Paul,,
Thanks Paul, got the idea from one of your videos. TH-camrs in our little circle are an interesting bunch - LOL. The skills are evident and impressive, but how did we all acquire them is always interesting to me. Thanks for watching
Food for thought…typically these lawn mower oil filters are quite pricey…so the John Deere filter AM125424c for this tractor is usually $20-$30 and the Fram equivalent is the PH8170 and they’re a few bucks less but they are lawn mower specific filters and cost more than average so if you want to save some money, go to the automotive versions of these filters…for instance, the Fram PH3614 is the exact same filter with the same interface except it’s 3/4” longer and if you want to get a filter with even more capacity, then go to the Fram PH3600 which is 2” longer…the PH3600 is a bit of a stretch and would likely not fit on some applications considering how long it is, but I’m sure it would fit on that 145 no problem…that being said the PH3614 is perfect and about the third of the price of the mower specific filters!..
I just bought oil and filter to change mine the other day. I have a 160 and love everything about it but I can't get it to cut a full 48 inch cut. it cuts about 18 inches and lays the rest of the grass over and I have to cut it again to get it cut. I have sharpened the blades, installed new blades twice and still it won't cut. It has been that way from when I bought it new about 5 years ago. Any suggestions? Guess I can't complain about anything on this Deere. It was completely submerged in 20 feet of water for 5 days back when hurricane Harvey visited. It had 6 hours on the hour meter. I pulled the oil plug, changed oil and filter, cranked it and blew all the water out of the cylinder, reinstalled plug, hit the start button and it had been running perfectly ever since. Didn't even have to change the gas in it.
Hey Danny. That was some good luck getting yours back and going. Previous owner of my mower had the blades on upside down giving me a poor cut much like you describe. Not saying that is it but I had to lay on my back and stare at the blades awhile.
@@houseofbrokendobbsthings5537 I thought about the blades being turn upside down so I swapped them. Made it worse. I even made some wheel holders so I could lift the mower up on my car lift. I have watched videos showing how to install the blades. I need to get it back in the air with it idling and see what is going on when it is running. I am thinking the belt may not be right and the middle blade is turning backwards. I know I can figure it out if I just take time to look at it again..... Last three years I have been rebuilding my house from the flood..
@@dannywilsher4165 Danny let me get you a pic of the belt routing. You may have something. Or the drive is stripped or slipping under a load. The grass description is just like I experienced. Knocked over and required a second pass.
Thanks Max! Best $200 I have spent in a long while. Retired my old Craftsman to my son. Still getting it done as well. We just mulched the tree leaves after years of bagging. My wife who insisted on bagging, took 15 min with this tractor and said “we will never bag again”.
The old man that lived next door to me had one of these. Chinese POS! The only thing american on it was the overpaid morons that assembled it in Greenville! I got so sick of replacing broken crap on that junk lawnmower! You name it, every pulley, wheel, mag clutch, switch, I changed everything at least once for him... When you see the company is too cheap to install zerks on stuff that needs it, you learn real fast what you own! His had the kohler and despite religious oil changes every season, it smoked like hell when cold. The best one was when we looked to change the oil on the ass end. Sorry, they didn't bother putting a drain plug on it. You had to flip the thing over. When he died 2 years ago, I was so happy to see his son haul that thing away and out of my life forever! Home depot really saw him coming, he had over 3grand in that thing and they sold him one of those junk trailers to go with it! I swear he would have been better spending the extended service plan money at the local nude bar! No JD for me, I've got a crappy tired as hell craftsman from 1988. I changed the oil ONCE and that was 10years ago. It runs on 100LL and that briggs never fails to start.
Thanks for the informative video! Good to know about the Mobil 1 5w 30, I wasn't sure what to go with. Have a great day

Thank You! Good fresh oil is my apology to mine for never washing or waxing. LOL! I think we understand each other my mower and me…. 😏

Nice. That's the wrong color tractor.
Can’t afford classic like yours. LOL
