By far my favourite Smiths song. Just pure genius. The Marr Morrissey combo has never been equalled for the portrayal of the awkward teenage years suffering the bullying of sadistic teachers in a bygone era when they could gets hands on and make life miserable for the sensitive kids who didn’t fit in.
Every time I hear a Smiths song played by one of Morrissey's newer line-ups, the absence of Andy Rourke's much under-rated bass playing becomes apparent. Great song, all the same.
if this was Jonny Marr i think the crowd would be going a little more nuts and youd just KNOW if Marr was on the same stage as The Moz which is something we`ll sadly never see.
hmm I agree rwm89 trouble is this song should be played in an open tuning to hear the subtle notes that are missing when its played in standard tuning and also the picked notes aren't there, you can't just play chords. Great to hear Moz doing this one though
@catoes Listen to the Smiths live stuff, it's no great shakes sonically. It wasn't until they added Graig Cannon as an extra guitar player, did they have any real power live. In the studio, a differant story of course.
@kieran4594 but this is not the usual guitar player of the morrisey band, I think is Lem or Noel (the hair). The guitarist of this band plays headmaster quite good. Its strange they dont shoot the man on stage.
@Nothereisnolight coincido con vos pero ambos fueron parte de un todo ---The Smiths----- igual que los otros miembros, despues las carreras particulares de cada uno son otra cosa,,,,,,,,,
Being Morrisseys musical director,i would say he had a lot to do with the instrumental arrangement of the set-list. Even if he did not,im sure he would have put steered barrie cadogan in the right direction. :)
I just simply don't get this, why are the tempos being dropped on this. This is the second one that I've heard by him over a span of so many years and without that upper tempo it loses that drive of the song It's just not there. The song is being played but you can tell, that drive is just not within
His voice is a little rough around the edges in this one, but I can't blame him, he's beautiful for continuing too belt this sound out, and the band didn't do terribly at all, even without Marr.
i don't know about that. the guitarist is a professional, face it after singing the same song for 20 odd years it's up to moz how he wants to sing it, personally i prefare it slowed down
@louisalive It must be really hard knowing that this song cannot be played better than Jonny Marr...if I was Moz I would never let my guitarist go throught that!
Funny...isnt that Barrie Cadogan on guitar? The direct sound was mixed horribly and is very apparent in this video. Snare too loud, lead guitar too loud, Boz was too low, and Gary could have been tad bit up the mix. I wanna say Dani wasnt well rehearsed. I like how Moz decided to slow it down. Also, they never play it note for note like Johnny, and Andy on any Smiths song...
Not bad for a live version, but Matt doesn’t sing it as well as Moz does, where as these guys don’t play as well as a Johnny, Andy and Mike, Boz was a good guitarist on the solo stuff and I have enjoyed his works on other projects.
@tranmer3 LOOK i dont want one of these youtube arguments! This is Morrissey, i dont care how long these guys have played with him, the name morrissey is on stage incase you didnt see it! Maybe the guys having a bad day on lead guitar, maybe the sound man shit but i personally think he sounds shite! And since there is a comments box for me to leave my opinion....thats what ill do! If you dont agree or like my views then fair enough, just leave it.
@WillClarkMusic to be fair the song he was playing was hardly easy was it, and he didnt do to bad a job to be fair Although If im honest Boz Boorers the only one who seems to give a shit about the performance :)
Is it just me who thinks at a glance the bloke on lead guitar looks like Johnny Marr from a distance coz it certainly doesnt look like Jesse Tobias to me.
Who wrote the Smiths tracks? The songwriter gets the privilege to play these songs. If he's going to sing Smiths songs, why don't he rejoin Jonnie Marr for the full Smiths experience?

Gary Day does pretty good in my estimation. I was late to Smiths/Morrissey so maybe that is why
Exactly.
I was there it was amazing. You are the quarry had just been released, new material, and old. Immense. One of the best gigs I've seen.
I can't believe that I saw a commercial with chicken and bacon before a MORRISSEY VIDEO
Just really bad add placement...
HAHAHAAHAHAHA
He sang "bruises as big as dinner plates"! That's what Johnny once has suggested instead of "bigger than dinner plates" but Moz rejected it :D
Morrissey is a legend.
What a voice.!😅❤❤❤! And the band sounds really. Is Great!
i know - the band didnt even have it in open E tuning. its totally missing everything.
The best song among his compositions!
amazingly lovely vocal
Does a great job on this. Whole band A++
They need 2X the guitars to produce even .00000001% of the sound that Johnny Marr produces!
Play at 1.1x speed and it sounds much better
Such a presence on stage n off , massive part of my life 😊
I love this song and dear Morrissey .❤
the best song ever from The Smiths!!
great...
One o’ my favorites. Wonderful lyrics, possibly all true, if not done to him, then others.
Uma das minhas preferidas. Moz está gatinho.
What a dead crowd.
Um espetáculo de perfeição.
Fantástico. Morrissey
if this was Jonny Marr i think the crowd would be going a little more nuts and youd just KNOW if Marr was on the same stage as The Moz which is something we`ll sadly never see.
this applys to anytime if you attended a school i did and i'm sure the majority of you did too.
hmm I agree rwm89 trouble is this song should be played in an open tuning to hear the subtle notes that are missing when its played in standard tuning and also the picked notes aren't there, you can't just play chords. Great to hear Moz doing this one though
The voice's still there...
@JavierEmbora its Little Barry who took over at short notice after Alain left the band.
that guitar player looks like johnny but doesnt sound like him, doesn't he?
It’s probably because they aren’t him
Obviously it's not him.
Marr is quite unique. Any guitar in Smiths songs sounds much poorer.
Ahhh, nobody NOBODY sounds like Johnny!
Felt is was worthy. Good work by musicians
Actually a pretty good version for playing along with my bass guitar :)....I am a beginner by the way....
Maravilloso Morrissey
Secretly and he'd hate admitting it, no one and I mean no one can play those riffs the way Marr does. Patch it up, lads.
@catoes Listen to the Smiths live stuff, it's no great shakes sonically. It wasn't until they added Graig Cannon as an extra guitar player, did they have any real power live. In the studio, a differant story of course.
No Marr = No Party
Marr e Rourke fazem muita falta nesse time
I just wish I was there!!! me jealous all of ...
speed it up to about 1.25x and it sounds alright
Too slow for my taste to be honest, but it's still Moz.
does that crowd know morrissey is there :S
@kieran4594 but this is not the usual guitar player of the morrisey band, I think is Lem or Noel (the hair). The guitarist of this band plays headmaster quite good. Its strange they dont shoot the man on stage.
morrissey will always be the lyrical king but i do wonder about the musicians he has been using of late
When did he start touring with accountants on stage?
Terrible version. Sounds like Moz with four dudes randomly chosen to play in your neighborhood's pub.
😂😂
Yes the band's very ho hum and dull. I hope Andy Rourke never hears that travesty of his bass line.
You are why I will never read youtube comments anymore ever. why would I bother? jesus
Did the crowd even know him?? They're so dead 😠
verry good
❤️
this whole gig was particularly lethargic, i don't think morrissey wanted to be there, i saw them at redding festival not long after and it was great!
i bet he misses the old band
what year was this people :)? looks like mid 2000's.
Without Johnny Marr this song is dead. I have to agree.
The guitars are not miked right and off pitch. Marrs attention to detail and arrangement so missed.
@23melodicas maybe that becoz johnny marr uses overdubs??
Saw him on this tour - it was a good one, but the Alain's replacement just didn't cut the mustard on this one ("Little..." someone or other).
@Nothereisnolight coincido con vos pero ambos fueron parte de un todo ---The Smiths----- igual que los otros miembros, despues las carreras particulares de cada uno son otra cosa,,,,,,,,,
...and the name of the pretty good-looking drum player?!
Zlatan on drums
Why are people complaining that it's too slow? This is NOT The Smiths, maybe Morrissey like this version better than the original, maybe!
Being Morrisseys musical director,i would say he had a lot to do with the instrumental arrangement of the set-list. Even if he did not,im sure he would have put steered barrie cadogan in the right direction. :)
MORRISSEY is so fucking big that opaque everything.
Arturo vidal antes del bayern
still do!....
missing Johnny

sorry, where are the Smiths?

Sad to see this cabaret version :-(
@louisalive It must be really hard knowing that this song cannot be played better than Jonny Marr...if I was Moz I would never let my guitarist go throught that!
He does the military two step down the nape of my neck
Sounds horrible. Johnny's band kick ass on this song.
its so much better with the smiths!!
Packed in like lemmings. Oh, the inhumanity!
Funny...isnt that Barrie Cadogan on guitar? The direct sound was mixed horribly and is very apparent in this video. dont worry folks, when the cash gets sufficiently mind boggling we will have a smiths reunion...supported by the stone roses...woo hoo cant wait!!
Mr. Butter worth on the drumming
...um...what? What does Boz have to do with this?
drummer sounds bored
No where near as good as The Smiths version
What a massacre of that fabulous intro. A fantastic singer, pulled down by a poor band.
Youre offended by the haircut. Get over it. Great work by musicians ...you try to play that goof
@@johnperiard9594 bro the intro is far too slow
Its missing Andy Rourke... Thats a big reason
Pardon?
i didnt call any of his albums poor did i?
great song but that was painful
mozzer ichiban!

The Smith's were THE SMITHS.nothing else comes close.
@WillClarkMusic to be fair the song he was playing was hardly easy was it, and he didnt do to bad a job to be fair Although If im honest Boz Boorers the only one who seems to give a shit about the performance :)
jesus christ the band is diabolical
@tranmer3 Thats what you call a paid musician who is employed by a artist such as Morrissey!
This aint the Smith's performing in this clip!
Is it just me who thinks at a glance the bloke on lead guitar looks like Johnny Marr from a distance coz it certainly doesnt look like Jesse Tobias to me.
No Marr, no Joyce, no Rourke.........dreadfully slow and plodding band.Smiths are my favourite band so this is lamentable for me........shite
@louisalive Yeah so could I mate. Ain't great is it?
Compared to his recent crowds i think they're pretty good at least he's not being pelted with beer cups.
Like you would know how it should have been arranged? Maybe you should tell Boz he got it wrong.. or maybe they wanted to try their own cover...wtf
You're correct he doesn't. He doesn't even use the correct type of guitar tuning (Open E) for this song...*sigh*...
i agree - Morrisey would be nothing without Marr's genious guitar..
That guy does look like Marr. Last I heard they don't get along. Almost looks like a mix between Marr and a Gallagher.
wow the band is awful what the hell
Who wrote the Smiths tracks? The songwriter gets the privilege to play these songs. If he's going to sing Smiths songs, why don't he rejoin Jonnie Marr for the full Smiths experience?
to me sounds better this version... i love it. : D !
what is a boz boorer? sorry if im critical on the fact the highly paid session musician is shite at his job.
