The genuine manufacturers themselves clearly know about the fakes of their products being sold and in my mind "they" should be posting these videos to guide and warn people about what is genuine and what is fake when it comes to their products. So well done to you for taking the time to warn people of the pitfalls. i would avoid buying items like this from abroad like the plague as your UK, sales of goods act protection goes out the window! I have always said to people, by all means search for the best price you can, but on expensive pieces of equipment "always" buy from a "recognised, and reputable retailer" in the UK, such as in this case - Regton.
Nice video Nigel. It's one thing buying something like a GP Pointer when you KNOW it's not a Garrett and they are not trying to pass it off as such but things like this are purpose made to rip people off. This video needs to be shared all over the web.

It was supposedly in Australia but after seeing your vid I sussed out the the seller was based in China and lying about the item location (a common practice on fleabay but they don't do anything about it). Item hasn't arrived yet but I am sure it is a fake so will be using a link to your vid when claiming a refund. As for the cheapo, I know it won't be as good as a Garrett but I've only just started and have a limited budget.

Im confused i have 2 of these both weigh around 184g with a battery in . But battery weights can vary ??.Could do with knowing excact wieght with no battery. Both i have bleep twice when switched on and i can program both and the 5 min churp works fine. BUT on both of them the serial numbers i have managed to rub off . One was harder than the other.
It’s 2023 and I just received a counterfeit from Amazon. Now fakes are being shipped with batteries also. Sent it back and going to another company to make my purchase.
The counterfeiters are always trying to improve their chances of not being caught, they also laminate the serial numbers and not all fakes have the same serial number LOL.

Indeed loads of fake ones, always buy from a 'proper' detector shop in your own Country, that's safest option, look on Garrett.com for your Countries Distributor.

one of the Easiest ways to tell if it is real or fake is to press the power button (but don't release it) if it powers on it is a garett, if it only turns on when you release the button..it is fake
Some like WISH, will provide you with all the fakes you, want. Except that you will probably, not receive your order. They normally delay`t, until you forget`t. Also do not worry about refunds or replacements, but you can try to have them, if you do not have something better to do (don waste your time!).
I have watched this 3 times, with my Garrett Carrot. Everything checks out that you mentioned except I have a lanyard. It cost $128 USD off Amazon. Is it possible that there may be an improved counterfeit Garrett Pro-pinpointer AT . Thanks for any advice.
I have a later model fake. Weight is ~189-190grams. Tones are improved on fake but no solid tones. No battery, lanyard included, and serial number wipes off. Was really off in the field and worked intermittently, so I had my concerns. Bought in June of 2023 from Amazon. Chinese counterfeiting sucks.
This is so confusing. My new Garrett carrot weighs more than either named Weight. The numbers don't scratch off. The light is bright. It's so technical I can't get it back to where it beeps. It's very sensitive even if it might be fake. No battery has a lanyard. Sold by Walmart.
I have a fake pro pointer AT. I know mine is fake but I do have adjustable sensitivity and 6 modes of detecting. The makers must have added those features, mine was purchased in 2019.

Ive got a fake black Garret pinpointer and it works brilliantly especially for the price, if I detect something in a large hole my fake will find it no problem and it came with a new Duracell battery. I can't see the point in paying all that extra money for clearer bleeps when you turn it on.
If it works brilliantly it's not a fake then, if it is in fact a fake then yes it may well detect metal but you're missing the point, they are rubbish in comparison with a real Garrett probe, sorry.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣A fake Rolex will still tell the time, but that doesn't in the slightest stretch of the imagination, mean it's the same thing. Guess what happens when your bogus pinpointer breaks? Or when it starts freaking out? Nothing..When a Garrett breaks, they replace it, often well past warranty. A 2 year warranty mind you...I absolutely guarantee, if you were to use a legitimate pinpointer, your counterfeit pinpointer would go in the trash immediately. You would see the difference in the field without effort. But go ahead and continue thinking you outsmarted the system, it's less competition in the field when we have guys like you in the hobby. Just fill your holes when you dig the inevitable piece of garbage at 2 inches please...
@@russellcampbell4999 You don't pay big money for the watch to just "keep time", although higher end watches are usually more accurate as well... it's for different reasons like build quality, the materials used, design, legacy and the re-sell value which often times only goes up with high end watches, or at least keeps it's value if you don't beat it with a hammer.
This "Chinese" , can see this, and straightaway correct the at least the most evident differences. One question remain, what is the price of this copy?
@@RegtonDetectors It is, I can see products with the Garret`s logo, at silly low prices, that is a good indicator for me, also they can easily had weight, better printing, no strap, etc... Now if I am buying with the knowledge provided by this and other videos, and I have the fortune of a shop, not online, perhaps the seller will let me make the necessary tests, if not, I can still be fooled by the weight or the "how real" the box looks now.

No, sadly they are a world apart, my advice is get a refund ASAP if you can that it, if paid by Paypal or card you can take it up with them.

What is the weight WITHOUT a battery? Cheap dollar-store batteries weigh WAY less than a brand name.

The easiest way to tell.. turn them on... Garrett turns on instantly.. (before releasing button) fakes turn on when you release button
